Chapter 37 - Jay

Jay found himself yet again in the back of a car tied up. All he wanted was breakfast and a quiet morning with James. He didn't even know what made him suddenly decide to try out a relationship and he was terrified that it would ruin their friendship.

Which brought him to here and now, in a car going somewhere. If that wasn't enough though he had to get back soon or it would cause all kinds of miscommunications between them. Stop thinking about that first things first get out of the current situation.

What was it with people trying to kidnap him anyway?

This wasn't some dumb romance webnovel where the lover rushes in to save the partner in distress.

His heart warmed briefly at the thought of James saving him from the giant snake before. How far had they gone? He hadn't been knocked out, but the hit to the side of the head was still making his head spin.

Mr. Liopah ever true to his sky hating nature sat in the front seat driving. Jay rubbed the rope on his hands against a metal piece of the underside of a seat. Darn how far were they going and how long would it take him to break free?

Would Liopah still try to hurt him even though the snake was gone? Dumb question he was tied up in a car, of course that wasn't a nice field trip. His chest tightened at the thought of becoming another missing person statistic, a body buried in the middle of nowhere to be dug up 100 years in the future by a random tourist.

He had to get free.

He rubbed the rope with more vigor and paused as a voice in front growled, "Stop moving around so much!"

He flinched and tried to quiet his escape plan. Lucky for him it seemed Mr. Liopah was too busy cursing at the traffic to pay him much mind. Maybe he could just knock him out? How fast was the car going?

Another statistic ran through his mind, car accidents without seat belts. Considering he was tied on the floor he didn't want to be added to that list either. What if he waved out the window? He was weighted down with rope tied between barbells but if he could get free even for a second.... why was this stupid rope so tough?

A few minutes later, maybe? It was hard to keep track of time. The rope broke free and Jay was able to remove the rope on the barbell holding him down. Okay Jay, he thought to himself, which plan you going to go with? Let's not become a death statistic, instead how about a nice survival story.

He leapt up from the ground waved frantically out the windows only to find trees, lots of trees. RIP his life, how did they already get so far away? The car door was on child lock so instead he turned toward his captor. As long as he didn't immediately knock him out he should be able to slow the car down.

He threw a piece of the rope around Liopah's neck and applied pressure. To his satisfaction the car started to slow as Mr. Liopah's foot moved to the break. Although one of his hands came off the steering wheel and tried to claw Jay's eyes out.

The driving car turned chaotic as the fight erupted. It went back and forth across the road narrowly missing a ditch, some trees, a sign, and a deer, before crashing into a guard rail.

The force of the impact knocked Jay sideways into the window and his whole body groaned in protest. It felt like hitting a wall on a bike at full speed. Jay blinked a few times, his face felt warm. He reached up and it came away with blood on it.

Right the door he smashed at it weakly but was very ineffective in his current state. Now that the car was stopped Mr. Liopah turned his full attention to Jay with a look of utter disgust on his face.

"Look at what you did to my car!" he screamed.

"Look at who's kidnapping who!" Jay shot back. He launched himself at Mr. Liopah calling upon his wind magic to break the windows. The one nearest to him cracked forming a spider web pattern then burst into a million pieces.

Freedom! Jay thought trying to shove himself through the now broken window. A few shards of glass cut through his skin leaving a few long gashes. He was almost free when Mr. Liopah smashed something against his head making the world spin.

Jay turned his attention back to him and picked up one of the barbells. They were heavy! He didn't look at the weight and did his best to toss it at him. He heard the satisfying crack of a bone as it hit his arm. Could he get free, would he realize he wasn't worth the trouble?

Instead the entire episode earned him a can of mace to the face. His eyes watered all over as he broke away with a yelp. Then he was hit with something else and fell back to the ground the light around his eyes starting to grey over as he felt blood running down his face.

"Just for that I'm going to leave you conscious for my guest." Growled Mr. Liopah. "Let's see how much you like the consequences of your actions. A painless death is far too good for you stupid sky user. This is god's way of proving that sky users are pathetic, you lost out, natural selection has selected against you."

He let out an eerie laugh that made the temperature seem to drop. Who was this guest of his? At first it sounded like a terribly shady guesthouse but now it sounded more like a graveyard. Jay tried to stay conscious but his graying vision forbid it, he struggled for a few more seconds then Jay's eyes flickered shut.
