Jay was used to James acting a little odd, but a kiss? That was new, even if life or death snake came up, who's first response was to kiss the person they freed?
Jay glanced around the motel room, what was taking James so long? He should be here already. He felt a twinge of nervousness; they should have easily beaten the cars that had to go down a windy dirt road. He couldn't have gotten captured could he?
Just then the door opened and James stepped into the room. Maybe he was a bit sick he did look quite pale. Was he that scared of snakes?
"Hey" he said. Jay waited a second to see what else he said but that was it.
"Hey" he replied. "So that happened."
"Yeah" Jay twitched slight at the awkward conversation.
"We should probably inform someone." Jay added.
"Who do we even call for a rank 10 beast? It's not like the standard mage division can handle it." James said.
"Hmm probably the government?" Jay replied. He pulled out his laptop and started to search around. James peeked over his shoulder which for some reason made Jay a bit uncomfortable.
"Oh here we go" Jay said finding the link he was looking for. "Powerful monster appearance reporting." He clicked the link and a page to insert data appeared.
Name of reporter: Jay Walker or should I put anonymous? Maybe just Jay?
Area of occurrence: volcano is southern Florida, he also added the coordinates.
Describe what you saw: how to fill this part out.... Jay paused..... Fire snake, lives in a volcano, seems to have slight aura effect abilities, possibly level 10?
Jay paused and changed his name to anonymous after all. Then he hit submit. A small message appeared.
[Thank you for helping to keep the world safe, a mage will contact you if further details are needed.]
Jay snorted slightly, further details, go find it just once and you would know everything he already did.
A few minutes later he got a reply and his mood instantly tanked.
[Please only use this for actual reports if a level 10 fire snake appeared we would have heard of it destroying cities by now. Mage: RedFern]
James frowned at the screen "well they are obviously doing their job sooooo well."
Jay bit his lip the snake was clearly doing a good job of keeping itself off the radar. Aura based mind control properties or maybe hypnosis was a better term. It was true if he hadn't seen it himself up close and all, he probably wouldn't of believed anyone who said a level 10 monster was that close to the city.
"Well" said Jay making up his mind, "If they aren't going to take care of it we will just have to take care of it ourselves."
James stared at him "You're joking right, it's a level 10 at least, we couldn't even beat a level 5 class. We are still students for crying out loud!"
"You got a better plan? Last time I checked we're hiding in a motel from a cult led by a giant fire snake, I don't see a lot of options." Jay muttered.
James opened his mouth as if to talk than shut it again. He probably just realized we can't do anything until it goes away or we'll just be fed to it by the cult. Jay thought. He felt a little bad about breaking his sense of security, but that was all it was an illusion. With the fire snake around and them on the wanted list, it was just a time bomb waiting to happen.
Jay went to the bathroom and stared at the mirror for a few minutes. He didn't want to tell James that their chances of survival were probably zero. Monsters could classify on 1-10 on standard with 11-13 for special types. Given the snake's current display it wouldn't surprise Jay if it got the 11 class.
Maybe he should put in another monster request? It was worth a shot... maybe... even top ranked mages would have a problem with a monster that could influence thoughts. Heck for a solid second there Jay had actually wanted to be eaten.
He placed a duplicate report in the site adding the last phrase of: I'm serious. He got no reply though. It wouldn't surprise him if the RedFern person just deleted it.
He'd never used the system before, just who did the government send these requests out to anyway? RedFern, what kind of name was that?
He pocketed the phone, useless, he needed to try to come up with something that at least had a 1% chance of survival. He left the bathroom.
James stood up and suddenly bowed over "I'm very sorry for kissing you!" he yelped.
Jay paused looking at him "Is that what's been bothering you this whole time?"
James looked at his feet. Jay sighed slightly, his emotions could be so simple sometimes while others so random. Well if it was highly unlikely that they would survive anyway wasn't like he could leave his friend worried about that.
He walked over to him and looked at his face. He really did worry way too much over the silliest things. It's not like Jay was going to hate him for a thing he did on impulse. A slight smirk crossed his face at an idea.
He leaned over and pecked a kiss on James's cheek causing James eyes to fly open like saucers and his jaw to drop to the floor.
"There now we're even." Jay said simply. Smirking a little at his reaction. He could deal with his feelings and James's after they lived. A small part of his heart clenched as if wanting to kiss him again... huh that was new.
