Chapter 5 - Hunter Report #5: The Thought of Freedom

Upon leaving the Guild Hall, Allen and Lily were greeted with clamoring crowd of peasants.

"Let us see the princess!"

"Are the rumors true?"

"Give us an answer!"

Lily put her hood up as soon as she could and hid behind Allen. Allen, confused, looked at Lily, then looked at the crowd. "You don't like the attention," he whispered to her. The crowd surrounded them and attempted to get a good look at Lily, who tried to hide her purple eyes and hair more. "Grab hold," he whispered.

Lily grabbed the back of Allen's shirt with both of her hands as she looked down. "No. Hold on," Allen forced her arms to wrap around him, which made the crowd take a step back. His pupils dimmed red and became snake like, as he stared at the crowd in front of him.

"Listen, everyone," Allen's condescending voice boomed throughout the street. His words bouncing off of the ears of the people in the crowd and bystanders that watched the crowd from the other side of the street from the Guild Hall. They all took notice of his eyes and backed up even more. They collectively thought, "This must be the hunter she hired to hunt for her."

As they thought that, Allen smirked and crouched down. He picked Lily up and lifted himself, while he did that she moved her arms to around his neck. The lift caused Lily's hood to fly off, revealing her glistening purple eyes and short purple hair. "We're going out for a hunt," Lily hollered as she waved at her people. Allen laughed before he got into a running position, lowering his body, then hopping a small step forward.

For the second he was in the air, Lily was caught off guard and tightened her squeeze on Allen's neck. As he fell, streaks of fire sparked below his feet. By the time he landed he leapt forward again pushing aside the crowd that attempted to disperse as he began running. With each step forward, he would leave behind a flaming footprint that disappeared just as quickly as they appeared. All the while, Lily barely hung on for she did not wrap her legs around Allen.

Lily flapped in the wind like the cape of a knight general. While Allen cruised on it with swiftness and dodged peasants and buildings with finesse. It took him a little under 5 minutes to run just over a mile. Even when he was out of the city, he continued to run as though someone was chasing him. Lily would just barely managed to wrap her legs around his body.

"Allen," she called out to him, but he ignored her. "Slow down, we're already out of the city." He continued to ignore her as he continued down the main road gaining speed. It was as though the winds were carrying his body and his legs were just signaling the wind to carry him away faster. Like a parent picking their child up as their child walked on air.

With each swing of his arms, each step he took, and maneuver he made to dodge an incoming horse or carriage; streaks of flames emerged lagging behind his kinetic movements. With each inhale of the loving wind, and exhale of raging fire; a sense of relief overcame Allen. He became faster as images of his life as a slave swam by him. The abuse, the torturous hours and grueling work. It all meant null to him as a smile formed across his face.

The smile continued to grow larger as he opened his mouth and let out a laugh. A laugh carrying so much weight behind it that it made Allen believe that he could honestly float. Therefore he leapt into the air with his whole being. He let his limbs flay back in the wind, before allowing his pupils to return to normal and his eyes to lose its dim red tint. He closed his eyes, as he heard the screams of Lily. "Allen, go back down! What the fuck Allen! Holy shit, holy shit."

Allen chose to ignore her comments.

Instead, he focused his thoughts on his master, Sir Harry Truman, and a memory that he had just remembered. The memory began shortly after Allen was whipped for taking the blame of an accident that another Truman child did. The beating was one of his firsts and especially one of such damaging degree. It was as though Harry had used more power behind it then he should have as an old man. Allen was completely out of breath after the ordeal as he used every fiber of his being to prevent himself from shedding a tear.

The light in his eyes were practically gone as he asked, "Master. When will I be free from this. How much more work must I do," his voice cracked as the further in he got into the sentence the louder he became.

"Free? Do you know the definition of freedom? Of course not. So why demand it? You've never experienced it."

Allen unknowingly took those words to heart that day, and in this moment. In the moment he was soaring through the air with Lily demanding him to put her down. A single thought cleansed him of all of his memories.

"Master, this is freedom."

As Allen fell to the ground, he positioned his body to begin sliding on the ground. While he fixed his body positioning, his pupils became that of a snake. He slid on the ground leaving behind him a single streak of fire on the ground. Lily immediately let go of Allen, she slapped him across the face before stomping on the ground. "Allen! What is wrong with you? First you bite my finger, then you put me in danger with that insane speed of yours."

"I bit your thumb, but I'm sorry. I got a bit excited Lily. I'm sorry."

"Whatever," she exclaimed before looking back on the main road. She then looked besides them as she noticed that she was surrounded by nothing, but forests. "How far are we?" They had landed in the middle of the main road, there was no one else around them.

Allen looked around as well, he scratched his head, then looked inside his pocket for the map he was given by the mistress. He opened it upside down before fixing it straight up. Lily walked up to him as she attempted to read the map.

"Do you recognize the area," she asked. Allen's eyes returned back to normal as he widened them to take in more of the area of the map. He had a faint sense of familiarity.

"I know the area better from within the forest."

"The forest?"

"Yes, that's how I came here."

"Were you evading catchers?"

Allen stayed silent as he grabbed his long black hair with one hand and played with it. He walked into one side of the forest, Lily reluctantly followed him. "Where are you going?"

As they walked into the forest the sun began to set over the trees. The area became darker as night arrived. They walked for a few hours without talking to each other. Memories inside Allen began to wash back up to the front of his mind. Lily was the first to speak, "The sun has already gone down. I'm starving, and you aren't telling me anything. What is going on?"

"Lily, I was tasked with a quest from my master to deliver the dragonborn to a council of witches," Allen walked into a small clearing that reminded him of his failure to humanity. "The coven," Lily wondered as she took notice of the clearing they had reached. It had the faint smell of blood, a smell of which Lily was vaguely familiar with.

Allen walked to the same tree the dragonborn had once slept under. He looked down at the exact spot the remains were buried. He stared at it while he spoke, "For an entire month, I protected the dragonborn. I nearly starved to death. So in a desperate moment, I messed up and."

"It's alright," Lily rushed toward Allen, got up on her tippy toes and patted Allen's head. "It's alright. We all mess up sometimes. Things like this happen, the world is a cruel place."

"I killed her Lily."

"No you didn't. You tried your best, that is all that matters."

"How about we just set up camp here, go to bed, and go hunting in the morning."

Allen turned around, Lily removed her hand and took a step back. Allen wore a smile as his stoic eyes attempted to lie to Lily. "Yes, ma'am."

*THUD*

Allen noticed a large bag suddenly appear behind Lily. She quickly turned around as she heard the noise. She knelt down next to it, as she opened it and looked inside. "Where did this come from?"

"I don't know," Allen slowed his speech as his demeanor changed to a confused and curious cat.

Inside the bag were the following: 10 pieces of bread, 4 blocks of cheese, 2 wrapped links of uncooked sausage, a book of spells with a title that was hard to make out in the dark, a bag of gold, and a letter addressed to Lily.

Allen ignited his hand, and brought it near Lily, he crouched down asking, "Do you need a light?"

Lily nodded as she opened up the letter. The letter had a seal on it with a symbol of a bat biting a wolf. She began to read the letter as tears formed in her eyes.

The letter says as followed; "Dear Lily, I'm glad that you're doing alright after all these years. Meet me by the river bank in the morning. We have a lot to catch up on. Love, Irene."
