Chapter 2 - Student Interview: Carter

A young Faunus with reddish pink hair sat within the walls of the gray interview room. Where several students before him sat and got interviewed by various people. To see if they were up to snuff. To see if they were worth being the best fighters in the world.

Looking at his scythe he would smile at how perfectly built and tuned he had gotten it. He couldn't wait to show just what he was capable of to the world. To prove that faunus were more than what society made them out to be. Even with the success of the Faunus civil rights movement.

Taking a deep breath he would fidget some as it became evident the time it took for anyone to get to him was taking quite a while. He had seen the huge line of applicants being let through onto the massive campus. But he didn't think the process would be this long before he could even be seen.

Eventually there would be a knock on the door, before a mad scientist looking man entered the room. Holding a thermos styled cup in his hand.

"Uh...hello?" Carter would begin before quickly being interrupted by a light speed chant of words from the man before him.

"Hello mister Moss welcome to the interview process to get into beacon academy. This is a very prestigious school that I myself teach at and mold several other students into fine hunters and huntresses. So what makes you qualified for coming into our glorious academy? And please by all means good, don't say your looks because they are not doing anything for you." The professor would say at lightning speed only a few parts of his sentence actually understandable by the young faunus before him.

Carter would just stare at the man before him. Unable to form a coherent thought. Was this seriously one of the teachers of one of the four huntsmen academies in the land of Remnant? This had to be some kind of cruel joke. One that they only played when they needed to buy more time. Yeah that had to be the reason why.

"Are you the circus crew or something? The entertainment while we wait for the actual interview?" Carter would ask hesitancy in his voice. He hoped his original thoughts were correct.

"I am no circus crew." He would say pausing and taking a long sip from his thermos of mysterious liquid. "I am a teacher of the worlds histories, that involved students need to learn in order to become fine huntsmen. As I said I am no circus member. A bit eccentric, yes. And a huntsman always. But let me ask you once more. What makes you qualified to become a huntsman at Beacon Academy?"

It was a question that Carter definitely didn't expect to have to answer. Considering what he had put on his application. It should have been more than enough to prove that he was worthy of being a part of this academy. Shouldn't it?

"My exceptional skill should be enough to allow me into the academy shouldn't it?" Carter would question the green haired man that towered over him. Observing him silently taking occasional sips from his thermos.

"Exceptional skill doesn't explain the reason. Just because you are good at something. It doesn't explain the reason why you are good at that something. So what is your reason?" Oobleck would continue in his lightning fast speech. Losing the young faunus once more. Trying to figure out what it was that the man was exactly saying to him.

"To prove that faunas are more than what society has kept them pegged as for so long." Carter would say in a questionable tone. Not really having much confidence in his response.

"Young lad. The faunus fought a war just to prove that they were more than we thought that they were. What else inside of that head of yours is made for just more than combat and racial contemplation." The man would say in a slower tone. Full of knowing and expertise. One that got the faunus' attention.

"I want to be a hero for the faunus…And the normal people. Show my worth to the world while keeping everyone safe from what makes it dangerous. And what could collapse it at any second." Carter would say in a low tone after a long moment of thinking and figuring out.

"That answer is much better than the last one you had given me. But I want you to think deeply and reflect on yourself on what you truly believe that you want to do. What your true calling is." Oobleck would say giving the young faunus a small smile. "I expect you to show up to my class on time. And learn about the history of your kind, and the kingdoms that you have yet to experience."

Hearing those words. Carter felt elated. And definitely in the show off kind of way. He couldn't wait to tell his friends and let them know that he had actually made it into one of the most prestigious academies in all of remnant.
