Chapter 17 - Caught

Early in the morning yet I'm already on his room, I didn't have my breakfast but I wanna see him and I don't know what's the reason.

"Good morning!" I greeted, euphoric.

I chuckled when he bounced on his seat -in front of the glass window-- before he turn his head on my direction.

"It's early, why are you here?"

I hopped and hopped like a bunny until I got myself beside him.

"Did you take your breakfast?"

I seated first. "Not yet, how about you?"

His eyebrows furrowed and look on the other way. I chuckled and tapped his head, he looked at me.

"I'm already done. Why you didn't take yours?"

I shrugged. "I don't know. But maybe, I don't feel hungry at all."

He sighed. "It's not good for you, don't you know what?"

"I know of course but I still don't want it."

He shook his head with a mischievous smirk plastered on his lips.

I stayed quiet but I become sleepy. I don't have anything to lean rather than him who's sitting peacefully.

I moved my body close to him. He didn't move but I know he can sense what I just did. Without hesitation and shame, I leaned on his shoulder and closed my eyes.

"Hey kiddo..." he called me.

"Mmm...?" I respond with a sleepy voice. He's too comfy to lean...he smells good too, sandalwood scent with a baby powder maybe.

"You're sleepy?"

"Mmm."

"Sleep well." He whispered.

I didn't imagined that, I'll fall asleep with a smile on my safe... it's unusual for me since I always sleep with irritated mood, especially when my brother arrive. Tss. When that gorilla go home?

I had a beautiful dream that made me woke up all of a sudden... I feel so irritated but when I faced the man beside me-- my face even softened as if the irritation was melted away because of his presence.

I groaned.

"Did you even move a muscle?" I asked him and scratched my head.

He stretched.

"Nope, I'm afraid that I'll wake you up." He said and fanned himself. "Did you sleep well?"

"I guess I did." I replied. "Did I sleep for hours? My apologies to you."

"Hour, I guess." he pulled his bottom lip as if he's thinking of something. I keep quiet cause my heart was throbbing and I couldn't find what's wrong with it.

I shifted my gaze on the glass window. I entered his room at 5 am and he said I just took a sleep for hour--I guess, that's why it's pretty foggy outside cause the sun is still not up. It's already 6 though.

"You don't have to apologize."

I look back at him when he spoke.

i pursed my lips. "I should...I lean on you for the whole tim--"

"It's comfy." He cut my words.

I stared on his face. He's sincere and true when he said that.

"E...eh? How?"

He shrugged and tossed his hair. "I don't know. It's comfortable."

I couldn't say anything with a strange feeling compressing on me. What the hell is happening to me?

"Nurse Mia is here before you woke up."

My eyes widened. "Did she get mad?"

"Nope, she bring your food. And she told me that I'll tell you that your brother will come home this afternoon." He informed.

Kaios joined me for breakfast since he said that he's hungry too. But seeing him in front of me, playing with the pancake in front of him--I can tell he's not even hungry at all.

"Are you hungry or what?"

"Hmm?" His lips formed into a thin smile.

"I'm asking if you're hungry or you're just playing. For the whole time you keep playing with the pancake. It look like it was murdered." I point out. Poor pancake and strawberries.

He tried to eat but there's nothing on his fork. I composed my laughters seeing him eating a wind.

His face become puzzled.

I couldn't hold on and giggled.

"Stupid, you're eating nothing." I said. "Let me help you."

He stopped my hand reaching for the fork he's holding. "I can. Just eat yours."

"Whatever you say." I smiled.

"Take your lunch with me."

I almost choke on the food I'm taking. I cleared my throat and I can feel my ears are burning but I managed to look at him.

"I-is...is that a question?"

"No." He respond. "I'm not asking you, I'm telling you to eat your lunch with me since you ditched me before."

I coughed, I covered my mouth with my palm. And when I'm okay, I gave him a nod and respond. "Yeah, I remembered. Sorry for that, let's eat together."

After I eat, I went back to my room to shower, changing into my comfortable clothes --shirt and sweatpants-- since Rain is going back and I don't want to stay in this room, I cope up with a plan.

I made a replacement of me on the bed--it's a pillows covered with my blanket, I even play my playlist inside this room and immideatly rushed outside with my neck pillow.

"Heyooo!"

I hop on the bed, nothing new, he's always leaning. My guitar is even on his lap.

A small smile made it's appearance.

"So what do you do for a living?" I opened up a conversation since he's not doing a first move to talk to me. Besides, this will be a great time to be friends with him.

He chuckled. "A CPA Lawyer, kiddo."

I scratched my head. I know that he's a Lawyer but I don't have any questions on my mind rather than that.

"Why?"

"What why are you asking?"

"Why did you become a Lawyer?" being curious with everything is all I do. Sometimes, got fascinated hearing someone talking about the things that I'm asking.

"Influenced by the environment I had." He respond. "In my village, our neighbors are all lawyers, prosecutors and even judge. So as my parents too. Whenever there's a party on the village, they all nag about laws, courtrooms and whatsoever related to laws."

"Hmm."

I thought he wouldn't talk again but he just did and I'm immersed to it that made me prolonged my eyes on him.

"And with that, I adopted on how they speak, on how they deliver words and on how their brain works. I started to join debate competition when I was in elementary so everything is smoother to me when I got into college."

"That's so cool." I said.

I wonder how it feels to go to a real school--hanging out with friends, playing around with classmates, roaming around the campus, sitting on the field and everything I imagined--if I manage to go into one.

I only graduated on home schooling and it's hard for me because I badly wanted to know more people.

"How about you?"

"How about me what?"

"What do you take?"

"Medicine."

He scoffed and chuckled.

I get puzzled with his sudden chuckling. "Eh? what's wrong?"

"I'm asking you about the course that you'll take." He smiled.

"Oh..." I rubbed my eyes. "I don't have anything. I'm home schooling."

"What's on your mind then?"

"You..." I respond without even thinking.

"Huh?"

"H-huh?" I faked a cough to get rid of the awkwardness in me. "I mean...what do you think about... what's good on me since I don't even have any single interest on those."

"Mmm."

He buy my excuse.

"Medicine?" he nod his head. "Yeah medicine since your parents are doctors, you might like being like them too."

With that talking, we began to closure things between us--like, what things we like, some hobbies, favorite whatever's and many things that we totally tell each other.

It was fun because I've never expected that he's kinda talkative--unlike from the first time that we meet where he always shouts and shoo me away.

"You're talking to me now." I said, smiling.

"I'm talking to you before, kiddo."

I scoffed.

"It's not talking, oldie."

"It's still talking cause I'm using my mouth, kiddo."

"But in a furious way, oldie." I rolled my eyes. "You're shouting. Shouting and talking is different."

Kaios smacked his lips and bite his bottom lip. "My apologies for that."

"Hmm." I hummed. I put my neck pillow on and lean comfortably on the headboard.

"It's just, it's hard for me to know people's intention especially now that I couldn't see anything." he sighed... but a there's a glint of smile on his lips. "Besides, I couldn't trust anyone."

"Aww...may I ask why?"

He became silent all of the sudden.

I cleared my throat, I shouldn't ask him anything, maybe it's too private. "I'm sorry for asking. We're not even friends for me to ask."

I laughed to fill uncomfortable silence.

"Be friends with me."

As indifferent as possible, I took a glimpse of him and suddenly my heart was pounding. Did I heard it right?

"W...wait?"

This time--I faced and stared at him.

"Be friends with me." there's gentle sincere on his voice.

"Omg..." I winced. "Yes!"

He chuckled. "You seems so fine with it."

"I don't have friends, oldie! I'm all alone! and now that we're friends... I'll bother you from time to time."

He sneered. "But friends only?"

I rolled my eyes with a pursing lips.

"Why? do you want something rather than friends?" I asked, puzzled.

He scoffed as if he didn't expect what I said.

I punched his arm. He chuckled and lean his head on my head. Now I look like a post to lean on.

"I have trust issues, kiddo."

"Where did you get that, oldie?"

"After I woke up from that accident." He took a deep breath. "The friends of mine that I literally assumed as my family betrayed me."

Hearing his voice gives me sympathy towards me. On how he delivers the words are full of bitterness. I may never had a friend...but, based on his expression. It may hurt a lot.

"Before the accident, I'm holding a case. I'm holding a victim...and my enemy in court is my friend....but when we're out of that courtroom, we're fine as if nothings to worry about. We even promised to each other that...what happens on the courtroom, will be always in courtroom."

"But he never keep the promise, right?"

"Yeah, he didn't. I never imagined that everyone from the firm I'm working is mad at me... Honestly, I don't even get it why. I'm just doing my job and all of them are mad at me all of the sudden."

"Maybe, because you're acing every cases."

"Maybe, yes." He sighed again. "But I don't get it why do they have to set me up in this kind of situation that made me lose everything."

I thought it's raining...but it's not... it was his tears streaming down his face. I couldn't even see him because he's leaning on me. I'm not even moving a bone because I might disturb him.

"It's not easy to be in this field... You never know what kind of people they are behind your back or in front of you." He said.

His hands are placed on his lap. With a careful movement I held it tightly.

"Don't worry, oldie. I'm a kiddo just like you said. I don't work as a lawyer and whatsoever... I'll never betray you." I said, assuring.

Kaios placed his other hand on the top of my hand that's holding his other hand.

"I know...you proved it for a lot of times."

My lips formed a smile.

"But may I ask if it's you who followed me on Instagram?"

He parted away from me and let go of my hand.

I looked at him. "It's your photos that I saw so I assumed that that's your account."

"I.. it's mine." he gulped.

"You're not blind anymore?!" My eyes widened. If he can follow my account then he can see everything!

Kaios lips twitched. "It was Nurse Jacob who followed you since I keep finding you to them and they told me that you're not here and you're with your family."

"So how come did yoy find my account?"

"It was because of Jacob." He respond and gulped again.

I chuckled. "You really like me as a friend before aren't you huh?"

"How can you say huh?" He mocked.

"Because you're waisting a time just to find me and even searched for my account!"

"What's your evidence to support your claim?'

I became silent this time. I couldn't get his words.

He chuckled. "You can win if you're talking with a lawyer, kiddo." Kaios smirked.

"You're shitting on me, oldie!'

He chuckled and winked.

Both of us shifted our gaze on the door. Nana Mia opened it.

"Your brother is in your room for an hour. He's waiting for you."

"But I put a pillow!" I affirmed.

"Reina Constancia, your brother is not an idiot. Just go back to your room before he gets mad." Nana Mia smiled.

I pouted and hop down from the bed.

"I'll sneak later." I said to him.

"There's a walkie talkie on your rooms, you can talk to each other." Nurse Mia interrupted.

"I'll do that if that gorilla will look for me 24/7."

Kaios smiled. "Better rest than pestering me, kiddo."

"Tsk." I hissed.

I went back to my room with a bad expression. Rain is sitting on the edge of my bed with a stethoscope on his neck.

He smirked sarcastically.

I rolled my eyes sarcastically.

He took a glimpse on the bed and uncovered the truth before he look back at me--full of sarcasm.

"Do you think you can fool me?"

I yawned boredly.

"Maybe it doesn't work on donkeys." I said
