"Hello?" once again Jani tried to calm down. However, no one has answered the phone on the other side yet. Jani then turned off the phone unilaterally.
His heart was anxious. It was late at night, the number that called her was an unnamed and when Jani greeted it twice the person on the other end still didn't answer.
The next day Jani drove her ride to the intended address. Saturday, the streets are pretty quiet. Maybe everyone are snuggled up in the blankets. But not with Jani. She really couldn't wait any longer. She even only slept 2 hours then she decided to get up and go to the place the caller mentioned earlier.
Jani arrived at a housing estate when the clock showed it was 5:05 am. With the self courage Jani immediately rang the bell in front of the gate of a magnificent house.
It didn't take long for a man to come out with a fierce look and a leather jacket wrapped around his body. "Looking for someone?" asked the man in a fierce voice straigh away.
"I'm looking for my brother, sir, his name is Arjuna, may I meet him?" Jani answered smoothly. In Jani's mind, she was no longer afraid. All she thought about was Arjuna. For some reason, Jani just felt that something was wrong here.
After being allowed in, Jani was greeted by someone whom Jani guessed that the middle-aged man sitting on the living room sofa was the boss of the man who opened the door for her. With the same clothes, black leather jacket, it's just the man who had just invited Jani to sit was calmer in his way of speaking.
"I'll just go ahead. I'm sorry that I've disturbed the gentlemen here this morning, I want to meet my brother. And onemore, who took my call last night?" Jani's question was immediately answered by the boss here (guess Jani).
"I did, miss. Arjuna is fine here. Follow my man, he will take you to the upstair to meet him. But, only for 15 minutes," the man calmly replied with a smirk.
Jani was escorted by a different person from the one who opened the door earlier. Somehow, they were dressed the same. But there is something that sets them apart. They all wore different shirts but with black leather jackets, black cloth pants, and shiny black loafers.
Right in front of a room door, Jani glanced at the man who escorted her to the second floor. And when the man opened the door, Jani gaped in disbelief. She covered his mouth in shock. She was silent for a few seconds before a voice interrupted her to enter immediately and after Jani entered the man locked the door again.
Jani's tears escaped when she found Arjuna in a helpless position on the bed, his lips turning blue and he kept shivering. Arjuna looked very thin even thinner than some time ago. Darkened eyebags and lips that seemed to keep on muttering.
Jani stared blankly at her brother, who at that time had his hand infused. "Arjuna? This is Jani, what's wrong with you?" Jani held Arjuna's hand tightly as she sobbed.
Arjuna opened his eyes and for a moment seemed to remember Jani's face. She smiled while shedding tears. "Sorry to make it difficult for you. I'll tell you everything. But there are more important things than that. Please give the money you brought to the man downstairs. So I can get out of here immediately. I'm so sorry, Jani. I've lied to you, sorry," Arjuna sobbed like Jani.
Jani shook her head strongly, "Tell me why are you here, Arjuna, what made you like this?" asked Jani.
"I was caught in drugs," said Arjuna.
"You mean drugs abuse?" Jani couldn't believe it.
Arjuna nodded in response. "I followed them out of curiosity after I finished the transaction to pay some of my debt to them and unfortunately I was caught," Arjuna coughed.
Jani is sad to see her brother become like now. She didn't think that her older brother, whom he knew, worked as a marketing officer at one of the large and well-known electronics stores in her city, had been caught up in drugs. How could it be? Was there a problem that made Arjuna run to the illegal things? Does Netha know? There were so many questions in Jani's mind that made the girl look at her brother with concern. Jani focused her hearing well. She tried to understand every sentence that comes out of Arjuna's mouth.
"I've been abused drugs for 6 months now. I'm so sorry, Jani," Arjuna kept crying. "I owed them a debt because at that time my savings had run out for my wedding proposal and helped Dad rebuilt the shop even though it was not much. They said they would change places this afternoon. I don't know what my fate will be," Arjuna explained dreamily.
"Now what should I do to get you out of here?" Jani remembers that she has only short time. She didn't want the time to run out without knowing how to get Arjuna free or what she should do after this. Honestly, Jani was really scared.
"Give them the money you have, yesterday I've gave them but it was not enough. After you gave them the money, get right outta here and call the police. I am gonna wait here," Arjuna ordered Jani to do so.
Jani got up without saying anything and hugged Arjuna. "Take care of yourself, I love you," Jani shed painful tears. Then she hurried off to meet the man Arjuna was referring to.
Jani went downstair where the person in Arjuna mentioned was sitting relaxed with a cigar in his hand. "This is the money to pay all my brother's debts, please set him free immediately," Jani put the brown envelope right at the front desk of the man whose Jani guessed he's the boss.
"Hahahaha, apparently, you are a nice sister. There is a requirement! before you get out of here, sweety," Jani snorted when the man called her a sweety. Hey! Jani was actually disgusted to hear that sentence!
"Arjuna will remain detained here for a week until we make sure that the two of you won't do something silly or rather you will definitely want to call to the police? Hahahaha please leave now, sweety hahahaha!" The man's words and laughter made Jani feel loathe.
Jani immediately left the place after they checked her phone, and told her that Arjuna would not survive if she call the police.
Jani's breath panted. Her heart beat faster. Anger, disappointment, fear, sadness and disgust all mingled into one. She left that place with an uncertain feeling and mind. She cut through the streets but it wasn't that she didn't know, that someone was following him. She glanced in the rearview mirror there was a black motorcycle behind Jani. Jani just knew it would be impossible for them to just let her go.
It's all happened. Jani will go through, face it, even though the overwhelming fear is predominant at this time. Even just in riding, it feels like she will sway several times until she is scolded by other riders twice. Jani must be brave, there is Arjuna who is waiting for her.
