The ceremony hall was filled with people. There were chairs everywhere. The front row chairs were covered with white cloth which Niel concluded was for the professors and their new preys. The chairs at the back were plain red plastic chair which was meant for senior students. There was a small stage ahead which was covered with flowers and on the right side of it was a long table with four chairs. The stage was meant for the freshees to introduce themselves and answer the questions that the judges or the professors ask them. Neil finds all this a waste of time and money. But instead of noticing everything around the room, he kept his mind focused on looking for that rival of his. Whom he plans to hate forever. The so called introduction ceremony begins. Lots of new boys and girls come up the stage and Tell their names and why they took criminology as their subject.
An hour passed and there was no sign of the one he was waiting for. He knew that person will be introduced in a special way but all these talks was pissing him off. And after a few more minutes he had it. He told his friends sitting beside him that he's leaving. But Rony, one of his friends insisted him to just wait for some more time. " I heard there's a god level beautiful girl this year. And she is the next speaker. You should at least hear her before you go bro."
Niel groaned but he agreed to hear her. "She better be as beautiful as you are claiming her to be." His friends laughed along with him.
"and now the next speaker please come up to the stage" professor Mishra announced. A girl wearing red kurti climbs up to the stage. She takes the mic and faces the audience. The crowd fills with hooting and claps. One look at her and Neil's eyes froze. She really was extremely beautiful. She had long hair and fair skin. He couldn't help but get mesmerised by her. She had bright eyes and even much more brighter smile.
While Mr. Mishra was shouting at the crowd to shut up, Neil was noticing her without blinking. He noticed how she was biting her lower lip, an act of nervousness he thought. He saw how her hands were shaking. A smile filled his face. After a few more minutes of hoots and claps, she finally takes a deep breath and begins.."good evening everyone. My name is Mayvee Rana Singh. I'm from Kota, Rajasthan. " she lets out a deep breath and continues " it's a dream come true for me to be a part of this prestigious university. I hope to be a good student to my teachers and a good junior to my seniors." As she finishes, the crowd once again broke into claps. Neil still couldn't take his eyes off of her face.
"so what made you take this subject?" asked one of the judges.
Mayvee clears her throat before answering. "my father is a police officer. Ever since childhood I was really fascinated by how they planned things and worked to catch a criminal. I read books and watched movies regarding crimes and stuffs. So over the years I grew more and more curious about this matter and decided that I'll take this up as a subject when I grow up. So here I am." She smiles " also I kind of want to change how things proceed after catching a criminal"
"and what would that be?" Mishra asks.
" Well I believe that before knowing how a crime is committed, the police or investigator should understand why is done. They should try and understand the thought process which goes into the minds of the criminals." She pauses for a moment to study the kind of reaction everyone had. "its not necessary that every person who does a crime is a bad person. It's just my way of thinking"
She put her mic down and looked towards Mr. Mishra to signify that she was done. Everyone clapped for her and Neil was trying to process what she just said.
"you have a pretty unique way of thinking here..haha" Mr Mishra joins the stage. "well now that she's here, I'd like to announce something to all of you here. The winner of yesterday's game is none other that Mayvee Rana Singh!!" The crowd goes wild. Mayvee stands there with flushed cheeks and smiling in an embarrassed way. While everyone was praising her, Neil sat there with open jaws. The last thing he expected that his rival was a beautiful girl whom he was crushing on few moments ago. His friends broke into laughter seeing his shocked reaction. All those curse words and challenges he prepared for that one person just became meaningless now. Even though he was supposed to be angry or pissed now, somewhere a part of him was happy to finally get a competitor.
After a few more people and their speeches, the ceremony finally ended. Next two hours people had food and danced. Neil constantly looked at Mayvee. On one hand his heart was falling for that beauty, while on the other his brain was getting curious to know her more. The party ended and everyone went back to their homes.
Before sleeping, Neil looked at the pictures of Mayvee he secretly took. He was constantly smiling.
If she is the one beating me, then I don't mind. He thought this and went to sleep.
Little did he know, what fate she brought with her.
