Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Charlotte's POV

Everything had to be perfect. I glanced in the mirror for the millionth time, making sure everything was neat and clean. I turned side to side, brushing my shoulder-length, golden bronze hair, again and again. I checked my bag, my watch, and the rest of me, making sure nothing was out of place.

Today means a lot to me, it could affect my life drastically. If I had been selected in this interview, I'll be the junior manager in a well known company in my city. Known for its commercial production and exporting of products and manufacturing industries across the state.

Check. Everything was ready. Plus, I've calculated having an extra fifteen minutes to get there. Great.

As I stepped out of my house, a thought halted me in my tracks.

I unlocked the door and rushed back into my bedroom, my eyes scanned for a silver coin about the size of a button. There it was. It had a tiny hole close to its circumference where a pale pink woollen thread was tied. My lucky charm.

It was lying on my small white wooden nightstand.

I grabbed it immediately and strode out of my house again. I never left it behind on big moments such as these.

I wasn't a person who was concerned about time, but today was a huge deal. I pledged myself that I'd never be late and adjust my routine as necessary.

I'm not a morning person but now it has to change. I'll be working in a big company. I need to prove to them that I'm an asset and I need this job very badly because this is the first time I'm going to be working for a corporation in my life.

As I locked the front door and frolicked towards my car. I glanced at the blue-roofed house next to another one before sliding into the driver's side. It was my best friend, Ariana's.

Where could she be?

I stared into Ariana's backyard.

Might be busy today. I usually saw her out in her yard, either watering the flowers or playing with her golden retriever.

I ignited the engine and then drove to the address I entered into the GPS. As my car approached the destination, my pupils dilated at the sight of the towering building through the windshield. I was excited as the thought of being called and said that I'm selected came to me. I resisted the urge to pinch myself.

A tower, maybe as tall as the Empire State building, resting above its concrete stood sturdy before me, which, no doubt, took my breath away. I quickly unfastened the seatbelt, opened the door and took my bag and other belongings from the passenger seat.

The gray tinted float glass tiled the building while some windows were gaping down at the road. Several people were rushing in and out of the entrance, most of them in a hurry. Large block letters, 'Nextar' hovered over the automatic door in the entrance. The whole view looked simply magnificent, along with its contemporary architecture. I would be beaming with pride if I had been selected to work here.

I walked through the entrance and toward the reception area. A brunette beauty dressed in a crisp gray suit, sat before her computer.

"How can I help you, ma'am?" she said, the commissure of her lips widening, revealing pearly white teeth.

"Um...I came here to attend the interview for Junior Manager of the Financial Affairs department."

"Please wait for a moment, ma'am."

The receptionist immediately punched in some numbers on the telephone beside her.

"Yes sir. I will...okay. Thank you, sir." She hung up the phone, the attractive grin reappeared on her face.

"Mr. Matthew is in his office waiting for you right now. It's on the eighth floor. Room number fifty-two. Good luck."

"Okay, thanks!"

I didn't want to risk my fate with the first impression of me being late. So I walked briskly toward the elevator. Several other people joined me.

Just as the elevator doors were about to close, a gorgeous woman extended her hand, causing the doors to open. Everybody's eyes glued to her instantly. Out of curiosity, I tilted my head among the people to see more of her.

She had dark, long eyelashes that adorned her gleaming green eyes. She wore a teal colored, tight-fitting satin, cami dress which didn't fail to show her cleavage. Bright red, glossy lipstick on her full lips. Her eyelashes curled. Four-inch pumps that matched her dress. She smelled of wild bergamot perfume that floated all over the elevator. She sauntered as if she owned the building.

Wow. She is so beautiful.

My brows crinkled as my eyes fell upon her. I turned my head toward the elevator wall beside me, which reflected my appearance. Before I could brush my hair again, the sound of the chime brought me back. The elevator reached the eighth floor.

I tore my gaze from her and immediately exited the elevator with a couple others. My mind wondered elsewhere. Am I going to do well? Would all of my ten-days rehearsal go worthless? Will they choose me?

I pulled out a file stuffed with all the necessary papers from my bag. I was confident about them, my grades would never fail me in getting a job.

I checked my dress to see if it's free of wrinkles before I spotted a tiny patch of lint on the side of my thigh. I immediately pulled it before anyone saw it.

As I was buried in my thoughts, a rigid chest crashed into me, the contents of my file spilling all over the floor. The rigid form belonged to a man that smelled of vanilla. I inhaled the sweet fragrance, which reminded me of my childhood.

I glanced up to see who it was. My jaw dropped as a stunning and perfect model stared back at me with glimmering, sapphire orbs. He was tall, masculine, and had caramel blonde hair that matched the intensity in his eyes. I had forgotten my irritation as I stared at his smooth, chiseled jaw, and trailed to his lengthy nose that rested above his kissable lips.

It wasn't until after a few seconds later that I realized it was not just me who was gaping at him shamelessly.

"Never expected someone to crash into me for my first meeting here. Are you hurt?" he said with a gentle smile on his handsome face. His words rolled off the tongue as smooth as velvet.

Butterflies flew with a frenzy in my stomach, my heart skipped a beat while all the nerve endings in my body pulsed fiercely, causing my limbs to tremble.

I should be annoyed at this but why do I feel warm all over?

Nonsense.

"I'm Charlotte Rudolph. Thank you. You're too kind, I'm not hurt." I returned back a thoughtful smile, trying hard not to stammer. I noticed his eyes staring down. Between our feet, all of my forms lay, scattered.

"Sorry," he said looking at me apologetically.

God, the interview hadn't started yet and I'm already feeling my limbs weak? I couldn't hold myself straight.

He bent down to pick up the papers from the floor. Feeling guilty, I also kneeled to pick them up. All of the fine hairs on my body stood up, my stomach started doing somersaults when his fingers brushed against mine. He lifted his gaze upon me, some creases formed on his forehead as he did.

"Don't bother with them. I'll pick them up,"

The man beamed at me as he stood, my papers jumbled in his hands. I stared at his black polished shoes. I stood up, my eyes never leaving his. After collecting all the papers in my hand. The pages were disarrayed, but that doesn't seem to bother me anymore.

"Pleased to meet you," he said and walked into the elevator with three men in black suits glued to him as if he were the president. I turned to see him enter the same elevator I walked out just a few seconds ago. I noticed the hot woman gazing at him, something sparkled on her face. Even she has been tantalised under his charm. Literally, everybody had an eye on him, wherever he moved to. As I stood there rooted and stared at him in the elevator, with some girls whom I suppose might be on the same floor as mine staring at him as it's doors began to close.

I gasped when the gorgeous man winked at me just before the doors closed completely.
