Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Charlotte's POV

Brianna turned the car into a large resort. It was located not too far away from the seaside. I could hear the waves ramming against the cliffs and the squawking of the seagulls. It was not only a huge resort with a luxurious look on its front elevation but also had stylish architectural designs. It had tall and wide white walls designed contemporarily with lights fitted everywhere. I wondered how beautiful the structure would look at night. Some of its sides are tiled with transparent glass while some parts were decorated with large wood pieces.  Different kinds of exotic plant species were around the structure.

This resort provided the view anybody could dream of. I inhaled the salty air while a gentle breeze brushed my hair. I could almost imagine myself lying on a sunbathing chair and enjoying a cocktail while a sun hat silhouetted my face. I beamed at the warmth of the place. It was the best resort for any kind of vacation.

"Why are we here?" I asked.

She said we'll be going to her place.

"To see your new boss, of course," Brianna replied with a casual smile. I saw her stealing a glance at my dress and then turned her face away from my sight. Why did she do that?

I checked on my dress. I think it looks alright. Just that it's not dazzling as Brianna's.

After getting out of the car, I followed her inside the resort. While Brianna spoke to the receptionist in the reception counter, my eyes wandered the bright lit, spacious hallway. It had a high ceiling, supported by a few columns that were arranged in a circular pattern. The lights affixed on the broad wood ceiling made the smooth white marble floor reflect everything above it.

"Come, Charlotte."

I followed Brianna to a spacious elevator that could probably carry a baby elephant. I've never been to these kinds of lavish resorts. This has been a new experience.

"Your boss stays here?" I asked in awe.

"No. He lives in the city. He owns this resort. He comes here very often for his usual business stuff."

He owns this resort? Holy cow! He must be so rich, richer than my dad!

After reaching the seventh floor, Brianna and I arrived at a large polished, arched double door. It was guarded by two men in black suits, who wore a heavy look upon their faces. They were the same men who guarded that hottie that day.

Brianna walked through the doors, revealing another giant hallway. There were many sliding glass doors that echoed the clacking of her expensive stilettos. She arrived at the largest sliding door at what I assumed was the room to the CEO.

My heart started to pound. It was in a mixture of emotions with nervousness and excitement reaching their peak.

"Wait here. I'll go in first and will call you ASAP," Brianna informed me.

I nodded and waited outside obediently. Boredom didn't even conquer me as I was busy gazing at the stunning and expensive architecture in the hall. I inhaled the sweet fragrance that filled the hall. After ten minutes or so, Brianna came out, and beckoned me inside.

I walked into the room as a fragrance of cologne rushed to my senses. My eyes flashed with recognition when I saw the man who stood before me.

This is too much of a coincidence!

Caramel blond hair, sapphire blue eyes, straight nose, sharp jawline, and perfect lips. He stood tall and firm in his suit with his hands in his pockets. Of course! It was the man I crashed into on my way to the appointment.

"Charlotte, meet Mr. Jameson Miller, your boss for the next two months."

Standing before my soon to-be boss made my whole body tremble. I couldn't open my mouth, if I did, I was sure I would faint.

"Pleased to meet you, Ms.?"

"Rudolph. Charlotte Rudolph," I recovered.

Don't get nervous, just don't get nervous! It is just a coincidence! I don't know how many times I told this myself, still my heart is racing fast.

"Oh, yeah! How could I forget."

So he recognised me as the clumsy girl who crashed into him that day.

"Charlotte, Mr. Miller will discuss some things with you so that you both can get acquainted with one another. I'll leave you guys alone. See you soon."

Brianna walked out of the room, leaving me and him alone. Oh-oh! Now this will be very awkward without her. A moment of uncomfortable silence lingered between us.

"Please sit, Ms. Rudolph," he gestured to the chair behind me.

Both of us sat simultaneously.

"What did you do before working at Nextar?" He asked, his eyes piercing into mine. It was just a normal stare but I couldn't maintain eye contact with him. If I don't do that, what if he thinks I'm not suitable for the job? Who would choose a person to be his PA when she couldn't even look at her boss.

"Uh... I -- I work for..."

Jameson waited for me to complete my sentence, but I fell silent, casting my gaze to the floor.

Shit.

"Ms. Rudolph," he said, after clearing his throat,"I presume you've barely joined as the assistant manager at Nextar company in Brooklyn?"

I nodded, my eyes fixed on him. This time, I'll prove it.

I expected his eyes to be unfamiliar and cold like any other man like him, but it was quite the contrary, although the whole of his appearance still seemed foreign to me.

"When Brianna told me about you, I asked her to get me all the necessary information I needed before we met."

I nodded again, my gaze still fixed on him. I wanted to appear confident so that he would believe I was a reliable human being.

"I conduct background checks before I appoint anybody. I have some papers for you to look at. They contain all of the details about the contract. Join me tomorrow at my company before nine in the morning. Good luck and see you tomorrow in my office."

Both of us stood up. I nodded again and took the contract he gave to me, swiftly reading through it. Without notice, Brianna sauntered in towards Jameson, who was doing something on his phone while I was reading the contract.

It was when Brianna trailed her hand from Jameson's cheeks to his jawline, I glanced at them.
