Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Charlotte's POV

The next morning, I was somehow excited while anticipating about what could possibly happen. Am I doing this right?

Like when some random stranger, who is not so much of a random stranger to call but yet someone unknown to my boundaries has called me for something she regards important. Is it even worthy of the time I'm giving her? The most possible answer to why I'm doing this is only because she's my Senior Manager's daughter.

I brushed off further thoughts that started to invade my mind. I would be late if I go on with this, so I smoothed my green sheath dress against my hips and put on some nude makeup in a hurry.

I reached my destination half an hour later. When I stepped out my red Honda accord, I clutched my purple purse closely, gently combing my hair with my fingers. I waited there for a few minutes. Where is she?

From afar, a woman in a black one-shoulder dress waved at me. The elegant way she stood and the radiance her outfit and aura had set up was enough for anybody to distinguish she's one charming woman with equal brain and authenticity. That must be Brianna, so I ambled towards her.

She was looking more gorgeous than ever. I think she used a red seductive lip shade over her lips while her flawless skin glowed in the sunlight.

"Let's go to my place."

"Your place?" I asked, befuddled. "I thought we would be here at the company for-"

"No. It's personal. I can explain more once we get there, if that's okay with you?"

Whoa! I know there's something very strange happening around. But she seems to be trusted. Or not?

I forced a smile and nodded. I didn't expect the twist here. What personal help does she want?

Brianna and I got into her black Ford Mustang, which I thought she would drive straight to her home. However, her plans did had surprise...

While she was driving, I noticed a transparent file lying on the backseat by the rear view mirror but I just brushed off any further thoughts about that coming to my mind. My thougts had betrayed me many times but gave me confidence and support, but for now, it's better not relying on it. I also noticed Brianna glancing at me and the file and then straight ahead of the road and back at the file several times, but I pretended to ignore it and forced myself to stare outside the window.

What's inside the files and why is she peering at me time after time? My heart yearned for an answer, I couldn't stop the habit of overthinking.

The sky looked cloudless and clear. A serene song was playing on the radio, which was quite contrary to what was happening inside me. I was feeling restless with the awkward silence. Brianna peered over at me again, this time she noticed my timid posture.

"So, Charlotte. Do you have a boyfriend?" Brianna flashed her a pearly white grin. Everything about Brianna was genetically perfect.

The question hit me like an arrow.

"No..." I said flatly. I don't want to show any emotions in this.

"Really? I don't believe it. You must have! After all -- you're one sexy girl."

A sexy girl? I asked myself because I remembered that both the girls and boys at my college used to call me a trog. The bitter memories of my former classmates haunted me with the nasty nickname.

"I'm telling you. You're the only girl below thirty at the financial department. The other women had all crossed thirty."

I didn't check on that. This means everyone is experienced, except me?

I gave a forced chuckle.

"Do you work here?"

"No. I work as PA for the CEO of Miller's Enterprises."

I know about Miller's Enterprises. The company is well reputed for its biggest trade,  stocks and shares. And as PA? Wow, she must've made a lot of money! I marvelled at how lucky she must have thought of herself when she knew she was selected for the post.

"That's quite a jackpot!" I gushed.

"Yeah -- It's good, you see. But, I wish to work in my father's company for a while instead, for personal reasons. Actually, can I ask you something?"

"Sure."

I know there's something in that question of her's. My whole self was yearning to know what's the reason for her to call me.

"Would you be willing to work in my position for two months? I know it's a last minute request, but I'd take your place as my father's assistant. Remember you told me this job was a jackpot for me. Just imagine yourself in my place. If you could, it would be nice!"

I gasped inwardly. Take her place for two months! She's kidding, I'm sure.

"A switch?"

I asked, leaning from my seat, looking at her.

"A temporary switch," Brianna corrected.

"But..."

I hesitated to give her an agreement. What will happen to my job?

"Don't worry, it shouldn't affect your position in the company. My father will be fine with it once I talk it over with him. See? Everything is under control. Will you please?"

I couldn't give a sudden answer, so I weighed the pros and cons. All of my worries about not having enough money to spend and pay my bills would end - but only for just a couple of months. On the positive side, I already have a job in place so that I can join back any time. This will be a great turn!

"Just two months right?"

"Yup."

"I...agree."

I saw victory in Brianna's smile.

"Perfect! Once we get to my place. You'll have to sign some papers first. Then, I'll introduce you to the CEO," she explained.

So this is where you're taking me.

A personal assistant to the CEO of Miller's Enterprises! I was screaming and rolling in my mind. Perfect!
