Chapter 4 - Zero star talent

So, from that age on, Liam had to survive on his own fate in this cruel world.

Nobody knew about his relationship with the Verlock family, since they always hid his descendants until they were fifteen years old and were free to see the world with their own eyes.

There were countless envious and hostile glances from lesser families who would try with all their might to bring down the Verlock family. Hence the protection with his descendants.

"Poor boy, it seems we both have a similar past." Liam felt real pity for the original owner of this body. Which he rarely felt.

His life was more difficult than Liam's coming from Earth, since he at least had the affection of his deceased parents.

In Liam's opinion, someone who preferred a stupid public image for life over his son was not qualified as a father or mother.

With a sigh, Liam slowly descended from the small mountain on which the oak tree was located. He had no plans to stay in this place any longer.

His body ached too much and Liam wouldn't sit still and wait for his body to give way again. After all, this body that was now his had died due to the injuries it had.

Patiently, Liam walked in the direction of the city which was surrounded by gigantic walls.

Liam traveled across the path in the middle of the forest. Although he had never hiked these trails before, he felt quite familiar with everything.

He knew where such details of the road were, the shortest and fastest routes to get to the city, etc.

As he walked slowly through the forest paths, Liam drifted into the memories of him to remember that he had passed through this body before he had taken it.

After a few minutes and feeling a bit of a headache, Liam knew that he had happened to the original owner of this body.

After being separated from his last name and entering a normal school attended by civilians, Liam's student life turned into more hell than it already was.

Even the most common person was known to contain a bit of Mana in his body, not at the level of controlling it and doing magic, but at least having the ability to feel it in his own body.

The talent of the people was categorized into stars. From the first to the tenth star.

The first star being the one with the least talent, and the tenth the one with the most talent.

An average person was between the first and second stars. A few people with slightly higher talent would be between the third and fourth stars.

The talented ones between fifth and sixth. The geniuses between the seventh and eighth, and finally those who are called "Blessed", being in the ninth star.

Last but not least, the well-known "Sons of Manna" who are ranked in the tenth star.

At the bottom of this system for measuring one's talent is the zero star. People who are considered useless when it comes to magic.

To date, only very few public cases have been recognized in which people with zero-star talent have been met. It is obvious that Liam belongs to one of these strange cases.

The talent system is examined based on a person's ability to control their own mana. This is how their ranks are classified.

So why was Liam categorized as a zero star talent? It is simple. Because he had no mana to control.

Even if he had outside help to help rate his talent, it would be hundreds of times more difficult.

Since his body has very little mana to the point of being considered almost non-existent, Liam does not know the sense of control that mana gives him.

It is known that even a person with a star will sooner or later feel the sensation of controlling mana consciously or unconsciously.

Regardless of this, although these few people in the past have had this disadvantage of a null magic talent, they have given all their efforts to develop their skills in other areas away from magic.

Whether in math, science, physics, etc. So here comes another problem for Liam.

As someone who suffered so many things after age 10, such as being separated from his family and despised by everyone, Liam went into a depression for years.

This depression affected his health both physically, mentally and emotionally. His studies did not give results, therefore, his knowledge of the world did not grow.

He was considered a fool as his brain was still immature like that of a 10 year old boy.

Stupid, talented, and with the personality of a little boy, Liam became the favorite punching bag of frustrated students at his school.

In this cruel world there was no such thing as empathy. Each one took care of himself and nobody had time to take care of the others.

This lasted for six long years until everyone graduated. Liam graduated with the lowest grades from his school.

With a worse depression after suffering from bullying. Liam at least for all this time was smart enough to work and earn some money to have an apartment in the most remote areas of the city.

At this time, he visited the outskirts of the city where monsters lived to try to commit suicide and end this suffering.

But since he had the mentality of a child, he never had the courage to do it. By accident, one day he found a small mountain in which there was a huge oak tree at the top of it.
