Chapter 6 - The Skateboarding Black Hedgehog

Damian got out of the truck and his hand was tightly on his shotgun. If there were any creatures in the Wal-Mart, he would be ready. He would be able to defend himself. What did he really need? Food to eat and maybe some walkies-talkies and maybe something to pitch a tent somewhere. He was still mulling around the idea of making an old abandoned bodega his base of operations. Maybe he should just escape this city and find a new place to live. He didn't know if it was like this everywhere. He wasn't really born to be a hero. He didn't want people to be hurt or killed. It was an odd feeling, he didn't know what he was doing. He approached the front doors of the store. It was those electric sliding doors and it looked like they were shorting out, The doors would open a little bit and then close. They repeated that a few times. He was waiting for his chance. The doors opened up enough for him to fit through. He was inside of the store and the lights in the stores were flickering. Great, it looked like a rave from hell without all the colored lights or lsd. He thought this at the other store he was at as well. The irony was, he had never been to a rave in his entire life. So it was kinda funny, he had only seen raves in television shows or described to him by his friends.

After the lights flickered for a few more minutes – they fully came on. It was like someone or something was stabilizing the electricity. Still, he couldn't let his guard down. Maybe there was someone in here looking out for him. That'd be nice. It is unlikely though. Everyone that was still among the living, they were probably just looking out for themselves and this was just an odd coincidence. He thought about trying his cell phone in here, but Wal-Mart was known for having shitty cell service inside of the store anyways. He thought he heard something creeping up on him, he turned around as fast as he could. There was nothing there, he swore there was something there. Maybe he was going crazy. Before he had came in here, he had thought he heard something in the air flying. Like a giant-assed-bird or maybe Mothman. Mothman was supposed to be an urban legend of sorts. That creature was also thought to be the bringer of the end times, which kinda made sense. Was this the end of the world and was his kind the species that was left behind? When he would find more of his kind he would be sure that it wasn't the end of the world. Right now, it felt like the end of the world to him. He had walked to the sporting good area, he needed more shotgun shells. He found boxes of shotgun shells, they were behind glass. He took the butt of his shotgun and broke the glass and grabbed all the boxes of shotgun shells.

He stuffed all the shotgun shells into his backpack. "This should do for a little while."

Now living inside of a Wal-Mart had it's perks – unlimited energy drinks and all the skateboards he could play with. Sure, he was a little immature. He didn't want to go back out into the world, he knew what was out there. His name was Akito and he was a black hedgehog and he love skateboarding. He had set up a giant jump at the end of one of the toy isles. The jump consisted of 12 cans of Bang Energy Drinks. They had all been drank. It was about time to have some fun. He grabbed his skateboard and ran to the front of the toy isle, got on the skateboard and with one foot on the ground he got up enough speed and he put his foot back on the skateboard and jumped over the empty cans. The bottom of his skateboard had touched the top of the energy drink cans and they toppled over and made a giant crashing sound. It sounded like something really heavy falling over. He looked at the cans on the ground and chuckled to himself. He heard something behind him and he turned around, nothing was there. Maybe this place was getting to him. He had been cooped up here since those monsters outside had started to appear. He wanted to live and not die. He had a pistol stuck in the band of his shorts. That wasn't the most safest place for a gun, he couldn't find a gun belt in the store. He knew there were actual gun stores in the city. He just didn't want to get out of his safe-zone.

But he had that feeling that someone else was inside of the store, they weren't near him. He just knew they were in the store. Maybe it was another scavenger looking for supplies. He was actually surprised that people had not came to this store sooner. The place was huge and had everything that people needed to survive. He grabbed his skateboard and started to walk around the store. He knew he would run into someone at one point. He thought about conserving energy by turning off the power to the store, also he needed power to keep the frozen food good. Even though he's rarely touched the frozen food. The deli was still good and he knew there were more deli meats in storage. There were a few deep freezers in the storage area and that is where all the deli meats and cheeses were. He also had a propane grill setup behind the deli. So he could cock stuff and it was portable. So if he ever needed to pack up and move it, he could. He still didn't know where these monsters came from or why they were here. He just didn't want to die.
