Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: The Proposal

Violet frowned when she saw that they were driving towards a secluded place. She thought that they had left the Capital but to her surprise, they had not actually left yet.

The road was covered with tall and towering trees on both sides. They seemed to be entering a forest. A man-made forest, to be exact.

She was sure that this place didn't belong to a gated community as the last house she saw was like almost a kilometer away. And they had not entered a gate guarded with men armed with long guns for her to tell that they were in a subdivision.

'Where the h*ll are we going?' she asked herself.

She had gotten her answer when the car she was in had slowed down as they had gotten closer towards this huge gate painted with gold. The word 'McWilliams Residence' with beautiful calligraphy was embossed on each side meeting at the center.

She thought behind the tall gate would be the house but to her surprise, they still had to travel around five minutes before they would reach their destination.

Looking ahead at the huge and only building, which was inspired by the baroque castle designs of the Baroque Architecture, standing in this vast place surrounded with trees and ornamental plants, Violet could feel that whoever owned this entire place, they didn't want to be disturbed with others.

They must have treasured their privacy while not leaving the city at the same time.

Which they were successful as they created an atmosphere that was far different from the chaotic scene of the Capital City center.

If this was in her past world, it was like this place was owned by someone important to the throne. It could be compared to the residence of a duke.

On the other hand, the man who brought her here expected her to utter words of amazement on the magnificent view ahead of them.

After all, that place looked grand and expensive in a distance. However, to his surprise, the guest had maintained an indifferent expression on her face.

'As expected of the Young Master. He knew how to choose his woman well.' The man said in his thought while stealing glances at her through the mirror.

He was the owner's only assistant, butler, and this property's caretaker. His Name was Felipe but he wanted to be called as Phil.

Little did he know that Violet in Jane's body had lived in a bigger manor and then moved to the Palace when she was married to King George II.

Therefore, she would be least surprised to see the building ahead.

The car came to a smooth stop in front of the entrance of the big house.

Compared to when she visited the Shaw Residence, there were no servants lining up to welcome her. Maybe because it was not an official visit or maybe because there were actually no servants in this big house.

They then got out of the car and she followed behind the guy as he didn't leave any instructions on what to do.

The environment felt to be eerie as it was so quiet. Only the constant gushing of wind hitting the leaves and branches of the trees was the source of noise.

Good thing there were enough lights lighting up the entire property which helped to eliminate the thought that this house might be a vampire's house or worse, a hunted house.

Violet didn't know why but the thought of encountering a ghost here freaked her out.

Thus, she walked faster and made sure that the distance between them were not wide.

Violet knew that it must be Jane's feelings that she was feeling at the moment.

She was never afraid of ghost. Ghosts didn't exist in her world. Only spirits.

But aren't they the same?

When she entered, she was greeted by the expensive and antic looking vases resting on each side of the door frame, a dazzling huge diamond chandelier was hanging on top.

And a red carpet covered the space from the main entrance up to the center.

And the two twin stairs --with banisters painted with real twenty-four karat gold-- connected the first floor to the second.

She could also see a staircase going to the third floor of the house.

Both stairs were covered with a red carpet, too. This made the guest coming into this house to feel special.

In between the twin stairs, a fish tank with a lot of salt water fishes, was placed which was specially built in customize to fit in that space.

The space they were in was almost empty as she thought this space was built just like that in her world where in ballrooms and social gatherings were being held so the modern couches and the living room must be on a separate space.

Though it was obvious that they won't be doing a house tour, she could roughly describe from the enterior of the house alone, from all the gold and real diamonds that she had seen, that this might worth to an estimate of a hundred million dollars, not in peso. And this entire property could be even close to half a billion of the same currency.

This house may gave off a vintage vibe from the facade and some parts of the interior but it was actually an upgraded modern, smart house.

A kind of knowledge that she had acquired based on everything that she had read and learnt about this world even in just a short span of time.

And she was surprised to be walking in actual one.

It's not that she cared about that detail. She just found it cool.

This new world she was in was driven by science which gave birth to modernized technology.

Where in in her past world, everything was driven by energy and magic.

Science and magic. She wondered if these two could coexist together in this world.

They had been walking along the long hallway which only heaven and the person walking ahead of her knows where it would lead them.

Only the noise created by the sound of their heels hitting on the marble floor were echoing on the hallway breaking the silent atmosphere.

Good thing the hallway was well lighted by these modern LED lights. This had diminished the creepy feeling that she was feeling in this place.

After a walk of eternity, they finally saw a huge brown door in which the man said would lead to the patio connected to the back garden where his young master was waiting.

Truth enough, when the door opened, she looked up the view of the darkness covering the still young sky up above.

She could also feel the cool breeze touching her skin making her to shake a little.

Violet scanned the place and saw the man sitting on the chair patiently waiting for his guest to arrive while elegantly sipping on his beautiful porcelain tea cup.

"Young Master, Miss Jane Sanchez is here." The man announced making the man to look towards their direction.

Though this was not the first time she had seen his face, she was still surprised and almost stumble on her steps when she saw the man looking at her with curious gaze.

The man then chuckled when he saw her genuine reaction.

"Don't worry little girl, I don't bite." He said in a teasing tone.

Then, the man who had driven her to this place, pulled a chair for her to sit.

"What do you want?" Violet didn't beat around the bush and immediately asked the man as soon as she sat on the chair.

With that, the man's face immediately turned serious.

"Impatient, are we?" He remarked making his assistant to almost stumble upon hearing it.

"I don't have time for this. You have already wasted my time which I should have spent for an early sleep. But here I am, sitting in front of you wanting to know what do you want." She may looked calm while she said that but her eyes had said it all. She was only trying to be polite with him but deep inside, she was already angry.

"You are what I want." He simply answered.

"--__--" Violet was rendered speechless.

However, Phil, the assistant scolded his young master in his mind. 'Young Master, if you're going to do that, you'll only scare this young lady.'

Phil then poured the tea on her cup.

"Drink. Don't worry it's safe." Mr. McWilliams told her.

"What?" Jane finally recovered.

"The tea, it's safe." It's Phil who spoke as he thought that the question was her reaction for the second statement that his young master said.

"Thank you but that's not what I mean." Violet clarified making Phil to be a bit embarrassed but decided to hide it with his handsome face.

"You're twenty-one. You're already legal enough to do things." Mr. McWilliams vaguely answered as he sipped his tea.

"How did you know about my age?! How much do you know about me?!" She asked both in surprise and disbelief with a little bit of anger in it.

"The Young Master have his ways Miss Sanchez." Phil answered in behalf of Mr. McWilliams making her to raise a brow towards him.

'The future Mistress surely had a temper.' Phil thought.

Violet chuckled as she thought everything as ridiculous!

"Listen, I'm not here to talk nonsense to you. People like you who has a lot of people waiting for your every command sure has ample of time to mess around."

"I'm not here to discus this nonsense either." The man retorted.

"I'm serious. I want you." He added.

"Why me? I mean...look at me." She said almost in a demanding tone.

The last thing she hoped now was to be around with the man who exactly looked like his ex-husband from her past world.

"I am little girl. And I know you're perfect for the job that I'm about to offer you." He suddenly said in a serious tone making Violet to be caught off guard.

"Wait what?" She mumbled as she was taken aback.

'Isn't he discussing for marriage or something?'

'That's what you get for reading and watching this world's romantic novels and dramas.' She added while inwardly face-palmed herself.

Violet didn't realize that her face had turned red in embarrassment.

"Ahm..." She tried to clear the awkwardness but there's nothing she could think of.

The man sitting across her could only chuckle as he thought that her reaction was cute.

"I want you to be Celeste's private tutor." He added.

'Wait, why are we talking about Celeste now?' She curiously thought. But the curiosity was bigger than she thought that she dared to ask him herself.

"If you don't mind me asking, what's your relationship with her?"

"Uncle." The man replied.

"Young Master and Mrs. Shaw are cousins." Phil interrupted their conversation in which Mr. McWilliams didn't mind at all.

"Oh!" She was actually surprised by it.

Then she recalled that General Shaw wanted her to cut ties with the Shaw family.

It was quite a good offer. One because she'll get a chance to be with Celeste. Two, because the price for becoming a private tutor must be higher than average considering that the man offering her the job was with no ordinary background. That way, she won't have a hard time looking for a job and so she could save up and send the rest to Mrs. Sanchez.

"But, General Shaw..." Her voice trailed off.

"Don't worry with the General. He is only against the idea of you becoming close to Celeste as he thought that you might want to ask favors and use the Shaw family name in your benefits in which the General is very against with. But this favor comes from the McWilliams." Phil explained to her.

"His words has nothing to do with mine even if Celeste's interest has become the common ground between us. He mind his, I mind mine." Mr. McWilliams added Phil's explanation.
