Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Back to the Dorm

(Edited)

They left the hospital room that night and when they were standing on the hospital entrance, a taxi cab was waiting for them.

Thanks to Jane's memory, Violet didn't become ignorant when she saw it for the first time. She was even excited to ride it for the first time!

The ride was unimaginably fun for Violet even if they were stuck in traffic. It gave her the chance to see other cars beside them as it waited for the green traffic light.

She was also amazed to see tall blocks called buildings towering over them. This was absent in their kingdom.

The tallest she had seen there was the Palace's tower.

Maybe the people in this world was far richer than her previous once that they could afford to build these tall buildings.

They stayed in a hotel room before they decided to part ways.

For two days, Mrs. Sanchez brought her to places and explored the environment around her since Violet had been complaining that she's bored.

It didn't cost much though as they just walked to reach the city center. And the transportation fee was something they could afford now compared before.

On Sunday afternoon, Violet returned back to the dorm.

According to Jane's memory, she had a roommate named Betty but the latter would often sleep to her boyfriend's apartment ever since she was in Junior year that's why she was a little surprised to see her occupying on the lower bed.

What shocked her was the latter even greeted her.

News of her encountering an accident on the road were made known to the entire student body. Some said she was in a very critical condition and might not even come back.

Well, it's the truth anyways.

"Hi. Ahm...I really thought I won't be able to see you again. How are you?" Betty asked Jane. If Violet had recalled it right, Betty would always ignore Jane ever since they became roommates.

Who would want to talk to a girl with an ugly face anyways?

Therefore, it was only a normal reaction for Jane to be surprised right?

Also, in her past life, only Suzane would dare to talk to her first. The others were just so afraid to even open their mouths when she was around.

So Jane's reaction would be somehow the same with what Violet would also feel.

However, before Violet could even react, Betty followed up.

"Wait, does suffering from a car accident made a person change?"

"What do you mean?" Though she asked that, deep down, Violet felt nervous. She's not the original Jane. She's Violet.

And she's not familiar on how Jane would react in situations like this.

She had to know about Jane better.

But as she scanned through Jane's memory, Jane was not close to anyone be it in school nor in her workplace.

Why? Because Jane was afraid to read what was on their minds the moment they touched or had skin-to skin contact with her.

And Jane was afraid. Jane could not understand the importance of this precious gift at all.

Ann knew about this and told her to not let others know. That's why it was Jane's own initiative to avoid others.

In fact, her being ugly had a double purpose, one, to not be recognized by her step-mother and the second was to make other people avoid and never got close to her because her gift would somehow violate the person's privacy.

"Nothing. You just felt different." Betty's voice snapped her from her thoughts.

This was when she realized her mistake.

Her aura as Violet was different from Jane's. Jane would avoid eye contact with people while she had just looked at her in the eyes just now.

This was one of Jane's mannerisms. She never looked at other people in the eye.

Because of this, Violet inwardly cursed.

"Is it? Don't think too much. You don't know me that much." Violet somehow managed to make a reason.

"Yeah, right. It's indeed you. The fact that you still looked the same means that you're indeed Jane. The trash that everyone have been cursing about." Betty had turn back to her bitchy attitude towards Violet.

If there were changes in her behavior, she could just associate it with the accident.

There were instances when a person acted differently after encountering an accident and she could play as one of those if someone asked.

Violet heaved a sigh as at least she believed her.

Betty then left the room without telling her when she's coming back or if she ever had plans to come back.

Being left alone in the room, Violet heaved a sigh of relief.

After she arranged her things, she then went out and go to the coffee shop that she had been doing part-time since she's a fresh man.

The owner gave her this job after she had done something good to the former.

But the manager didn't like her at all. And the customers would often pick on her because of her appearance every shift.

Now, she was actually hoping that the position was still available.

Unfortunately, when she got there, not only was she being replaced, she had even earned insults from the manager.

For Violet who was respected by the people of Aprivepan as their queen, this was the first time that she received an insult from other people aside from the queen emeritus, the king, her step mom and Sophia.

The low born had to still bow down to her no matter how disappointed or how they hated her.

Violet's heart ached for Jane. She felt sorry because Jane had to suffer this discrimination.

Seeing that she was in a trance, the impatient manager then grabbed her arm and dragged her out of the coffee shop.

When the manager's hand got in contact to her skin, she felt like a thousand volts hit her head and it then ached the moment she heard, read and felt what the latter's thoughts at the moment.

For almost four years of working in this shop, the owner would not even do this to Jane.

'You b*tch! Why didn't you just die! Because of your ugly face, we will suffer losses today! Can you even pay it?! Why are you still even alive! Ugly people like you deserved to die. Your cursed face don't deserve to be seen in this world!' The manager thought.

Of course there's no way she would say this unless she no longer wanted her job.

If she'd utter a single foul word to her, no matter how she felt that Violet deserved it, she would still be bashed online because of discrimination by those keyboard warriors who only knew how to act right and just behind the screen but were completely opposite in real life.

Of course, there were those who would bully no matter what.

Going back, Violet flinched as she felt what Jane would feel when she touched someone with an evil and dark thoughts. It was different when someone whose thoughts were full of genuine care and love.

She could feel like the bile in her stomach was rising up to her throat making her want to puke.

But instead of being afraid like what the original Jane would normally react, Jane's eyes turned cold and dared to look at the manager in the eye.

As a result, the manager felt a tingling sensation down her spine and she shivered in fear.

Jane's eyes were so cold that could almost freeze ones soul. If this was still the old Jane, she would already retreated and leave. But she's Violet.

Seeing that she was still holding her arm. The manager then let it go and tried her best not to be afraid when she said, "You...you bet-ter le-ave or else I'll call the po-lice."

She failed miserably and sounded pathetic even more.

Violet in Jane's body looked at her one more time before she turned around and then left.

But before she did, she said something to her.

"Be careful whenever you see an ugly looking person like me entering in this coffee shop. Not all of us has the calm temper."

Jane didn't wait for the manager to reply to that as she walked out.

It's such a waste that she lost this job.

Of the two jobs she had, this job had the lesser chance that she'd be replaced.

But she was wrong. She was gone for three months. Of course no one would expect for her to come back.

Feeling defeated, Jane decided to go back to the dorm.

While she was walking on the highway, a black Bentley car happened to pass by her and then stopped a few meters in from her when the lights turned red and pedestrians started crossing.

Violet wanted to ignore it but the window rolled down the moment she passed by it.

A familiar figure then smiled at her. It was Mrs. Shaw and Celeste riding on the car.

"Jane!" Mrs. Shaw called her as she was afraid that the young lady would avoid her.

"Hello Mrs. Shaw." She greeted her back.

"Get in, let's find a proper place to talk before these vehicles behind would madly blew their horns at us." Mrs. Shaw said and asked Violet to get inside the car. She moved a little bit to give her the room to sit down.

"The hospital informed me that you're already released. Celeste wanted to meet you today that's why we decided to visit you in your dorm and perhaps invite you for dinner in our place. But when we went there, the dorm mother said that you went out. Thank god I saw you walking on the street or else Celeste would be throwing a tantrum at me."

As she heard Celeste's name, Violet's expression softened.

She then looked at Celeste who was looking at Violet curiously.

Maybe because this was the first time that Celeste saw her in this look so the child could not recognize her. But Mrs. Shaw could since she was there when Ann removed her make up and everything.

"Hi little Celeste!" Violet waved her hand.

Celeste then looked at Mrs. Shaw and then back to Violet. The child looked really confused.

"Celeste, this is your sister Jane. She's wearing a costume to be safe from the bad guys. And this will be our little secret from now on, okay?" Mrs. Shaw told Celeste as if the child could understand what she was talking to her.

However, Celeste's long lashes flickered and her eyes sparkled.

"Aw you weally my Sistew Jane?" Violet chuckled as she ruffled her hair.

"Yes. This is your sister Jane sweetheart." Upon hearing the confirmation, the child then unbuckled her seat and hugged Violet tightly.

Violet could feel and hear happy thoughts on Celeste's mind. Therefore, she herself was happy because the child was happy.

"Okay pwetty sistew. I'll keep this as our big secwet. I pwomise!" Celeste then showed her small hand and made the promise sign.

"Good girl!" Violet ruffled her hair one more time.

"Sistew, can you come with us and have dinnew tonight?" Celeste cutely said.

Seeing that Celeste had personally invited her, Violet was at a loss for words. She wanted to refuse because she knew she's not suited to be there.

But how could she refuse her request when she's so cute when asking her?

"Ahm."

Mrs. Shaw saw her worry that's why she decided to intervene.

"It's okay. It'll only be me and Celeste. My husband's out of town. So he won't be joining us. No other relatives will be joining us for tonight."

"Ahm, okay." Violet finally agreed.
