Violet watched as they travelled into a neighboring city and were driven towards a high end subdivision guarded by soldiers on the main gate where in only the families of the high ranking military (marine, airforce, navy) officials serving the country could have a residence.
It costs hundreds of millions of pesos to purchase a property in this neighborhood. This place was called Soldiers' Valley. The most expensive house here was owned by the Generals which costed around twenty million to fifty million pesos. And this was owned by the Shaw Family.
That was thanks to their family business abroad that's why they could afford this kind of house.
Violet looked at the big golden gate and she sighed deep in her heart.
The people here also liked to live in an extravagant life just like in her world.
They liked to board in expensive sedan cars instead of the carriage being pulled by regular horses.
They also had a bird-like carrier that could transport many people in the air.
She also realized that people here relied in science in treating illnesses instead of using healing magic or the traditional medicine.
They had this weird machines and scanners used in diagnosing illnesses instead of relying on things such as pulse reading and acupuncture.
The people here also wore different styles of clothes. When she looked at the screen with flashing images--television, in the hospital, she saw women wearing clothes with shorter fabrics revealing too much skin.
Their language was also different from hers but miraculously, she could understand them.
She was thankful that she retained Jane's memories, or else, she would be like a lost puppy in this world even if it's easy for her to blend in as part of her survival mechanism.
Seeing that she was on a trance, Celeste who was now in sitting on her lap than her car seat touched her face.
"Pwetty Sistew?" She cutely called her.
"Yes? What is it darling?" Violet responded as she looked down to her.
"Are you nervous?"
"No. I'm just excited to see your residence." She said hoping that what she was saying was okay.
"Oh. Okay." Celeste then stopped talking as soon as the car stopped.
"Pwetty Sistew, wew heyew!" Celeste announced making Violet to look up in the building standing beside the car.
Servants in uniform lining up in two lines were already waiting for them in the entrance.
Mrs. Shaw then grabbed Violet's hand as if to comfort her.
Mrs. Shaw was on her early thirties. She had a red hair and a pair of grey eyes in contrast to Celeste's blue ones and blonde hair.
She conceived Celeste through IVF that's why the entire Shaw family doted on Celeste so much. And she's the only granddaughter in the Shaw family which were mostly composed of alpha males as grand children of General Shaw.
This family was from a military lineage but even so, they had members who chose to pursue other fields such as medicine and commerce.
The Shaw family didn't originally came from Country P. It just so happen that their ancestors were given the chance to serve their second home country as its soldiers.
General Shaw grew up and studied abroad before he came back to Country P and entered the military school to become a soldier following his father's footsteps.
Lilith Shaw's husband, Robert L. Shaw was a successful businessman both locally and abroad.
He had a son from his bachelor year and a son from his previous marriage. He was forty years old.
He had Gabriel when he was twenty and on his early years in college with a girl he hooked up in a bar and gotten pregnant.
The girl didn't know his status as an heir of the Shaw family therefore she left the babies at the entrance of his dormitory with a note that he was his.
A year and a half later, he got his girlfriend turned wife pregnant and they had Jake Shaw. His late wife Lesley Lee Shaw passed away because of cancer.
His sons, Gab and Jake Shaw were twenty-one and nineteen years of age respectively and were currently staying in a boarding school and seldom go home.
It's not because they hated her as their step-mother. They were just busy with their academics. And they were forced to stay in a boarding school by their dad. And they could not reveal their identity as a Shaw until they graduate.
They were even using their respective mother's maiden name at school. Lawson for Gab and Lee for Jake.
This was to protect them from their enemies eyeing on the Shaw's wealth and power until they're ready.
General Shaw had two legitimate sons and five from outside of marriage during his younger years.
Those sons were from different mothers as well.
Robert Shaw's brother, Shawn L. Shaw had followed the same career with General Shaw that's why Robert Shaw had to inherit the billion dollar empire that their mother, Stella Lambert Shaw had inherited from her parents overseas.
Though their business was overseas, Robert and Lilith Shaw relocated in Country P to be with the General since he was getting older. His two sons were forced to come with them and was now staying in a boarding school in the Capital City which was in the neighboring city.
Here, they opened a branch of their business where in Robert could take his office.
And Robert Shaw's half-siblings were eyeing for a piece of that even if they had nothing to do about it.
Going back, Violet followed Lilith Shaw and went out of the car with Celeste on her arms.
Celeste was a three year-old cute little girl and she's quite lighter so Violet didn't mind carrying her.
As the servants saw her, they were obviously shock to see her with the Shaw mother and daughter.
Violet was sure that if she would touch one of them, she could surely read disgust in their heads.
Well, it was pretty obvious on their faces.
"Good afternoon Mistress! Little Miss!" The head butler greeted Lilith Shaw and Celeste.
"The General had just arrived together with Young Master Gabriel and Young Master Jake. He informed me to bring Little Miss Celeste into the study to see him when you both arrived." He said making Lilith to worry about Violet. She didn't inform Violet about this that there would be other people joining them for dinner.
"Okay August. I'll let Celeste to visit him right away. Please prepare the guest room for our guest to stay for tonight and ask one of the servants to get my unused clothes from my closet and bring it there. Jane will be staying for the night." Lilith Shaw said without even informing the General beforehand.
She realized her mistake that she immediately turn around and asked Violet.
"Jane, is it okay if you'll stay here for the night? The school dorm is quite far from here and it would be inconvenient if you'll go back especially as it looks like raining on the way. And also, General Shaw and the Shaw brothers will be joining us for dinner. I was also informed late that father would be here today from the camp. Will that be okay?" Mrs. Shaw asked her as she kind of learn from Mrs. Sanchez that Jane (Violet) won't easily warm up to strangers.
But remembering at how she spoke and interact with her in the hospital and earlier, she could not feel that she's awkward. It was as if she was used to it.
"It's okay. I am sorry for bothering you Mrs. Shaw." Violet politely said.
"Silly child! You are our family's guest and my Celeste's savior. Having you here is not a trouble at all. In fact it's our pleasure to have you here as our guest."
Seeing the genuine concern on her tone, Violet smiled warmly at her and she nodded.
When they got inside, the main hall was decorated with a big chandelier and on the wall was General Shaw's portrait together with his two sons and their respective families.
They were all handsome and good looking.
Of course she recognized these people from Jane's memories.
Especially the two young men beside Mr. Robert Shaw who had a blonde hair.
The one with the black hair named Gabriel was the ace football player at their school and his team mates would often bully Jane on the cafeteria. Though Gabriel didn't participate, he would laugh at her misfortune together with his friends.
Because he was a student athlete, he had an athletic build which was not inferior to other young man in the photo.
The one beside him wearing eye glasses with a blonde hair just like Mr. Robert Shaw was Jake. He excelled in academics at school and would often stay in the lab or in the library for study. He was a scholar even if he could afford to pay the scholarship.
To make amends, Mr. Shaw would become one of the sponsors of the university projects.
Jane had bumped into him when she was in a rush going to the library and she could say that among the two, Jake was more likely approachable and friendly than Gab.
It's just that he was so busy on his experiments. But he would talk to Jane when he had to consult something to her with regards to his experiments in the lab.
Jane toped the yearly college entrance exam with a perfect score that's why she got the chance to get in P University.
But instead of going into the IT, Science and Mathematics Department, she chose the Business and Economics Department instead and took a business administration degree program.
She wanted to help Ann that's why she chose it even if it was the least of her interest.
Jane was more interested in hacking and programing and Science.
She declined the offers in becoming a member in any laboratories as she didn't see it as necessary at all.
She instead focused on finding part-time jobs such as waiting tables and being a baker.
Celeste's soft hand on her face made Violet to go back to reality.
"Pwetty Sistew, you may put me down now." She cutely asked her and Violet obliged.
"Who is she? Seems like the Little Miss and Mistress is close to her." One female servant gossiped and Jane ignored it.
"Wait, she's going to join dinner with everyone? No way! General Shaw might lose his appetite upon seeing her."
"Geez! What an ugly woman. I think she has to bath whole day with a ton of milk so her skin will be a little lighter!"
Though these three young servants were whispering, the hall was so quite that Violet, in Jane's body could hear them.
They thought by doing so, Violet would be offended and would take the initiative to leave since Mrs. Shaw was fond of her.
But who would expect that Violet would smile at them instead?
"Mom, I'll go visit Gen. Pops okay?" Celeste said as she headed towards the second floor where the General's study were.
But to everyone's surprise, Celeste didn't let go of Violet's hand.
"Let's go pwetty sistew. Let's see Gen. Pops." Celeste invited but Violet felt that it was inappropriate. She was a guest and she was not familiar with the General at all.
However, Lilith's encouraging tap on the shoulder made her to just follow Celeste.
If the General threw her out of the study, then she would gladly leave.
She's only a guest of this house after all.
