Chapter 6 - 2015

2015 was a very intense year for Nkoli by this time in her life doctor's visits had become as frequent as breathing itself however the intensity of the year was in her admission process the only good thing about the time being her graduation from lagoon secondary school

WAEC, two months nine papers each feeling like a rope around her neck how was it that six years boiled down to one moment to Nkoli it did not make any sense just like her journey on earth which supposedly ends with one defining moment judgement, heaven or hell

NECO, electively compulsory but for her it was a necessary evil , one of those things you do to fulfil all righteousness given that she failed maths in Gce Nkoli had to do this not just to de-weaponise and please her parents but mostly for the voices in her head so that if in the end failure was eminent she could at least say to them, bitch please I did my best not like there was any wining with them but she did it anyways mainly for herself so that she could absolve herself from some of guilty, shame and worthlessness in case the blood of Jesus was at her time of need on another assignment , six weeks six papers later Nkoli was official done with all things secondary school.

Post-graduation home staying was mental torture fingers crossed result season was upon her. First came Jamb she had 275, the best result in the Ezeh family at the time ,seemed like all the fasting and prayers were paying off as shortly after Jamb offered her provisional admission to study Law at the University of Lagos. At this point Nkoli was the centre of attention in her household and for the first time the reason was something good she had managed to do the seemingly impossible by her admission offer something the beautiful ones and omenkanaya, son of the soil was unable to accomplish

Her first visit to the famous Unilag was around July 2015 for the Post Utme exams.

The day before her Utme examination was an emotionally exhausting one , she was awoken that morning by excruciating pain in her legs after two hours of temporary paralysis she was finally able to move her leg and leave her bed, later that day after a brief phone call from papa Nkoli found out that WAEC result had been released fear gripped her like a vice, what if she didn't pass? What if papa was right? , what if …..? her mind was running wild , the voices in her head on high alert , what would become of her life? In that moment Nkoli went to God in faith and fear to remind him of the covenant offering she had given for her results and admission, she cried songs and cried some more. Adaeze was asked to check Nkoli's result which meant she would only know her fate later that night when Adaeze returned from work. seated on the three setter black leather chair Nkoli is speaking to a family friend ad mist the noise of her younger ones when Adaeze returns for work with her result, Nkoli I have your result, Adaeze said but she was too scared to check it so she opted that everyone present sees it before her family friend included that way she won't have to tell anybody. When she finally saw it she broke down in tears yelling at God "you're a fraud, and cursing at all who tried to console or reason with her about how God had a plan and his ways are higher than our ways… yada yada yada … as far as she was concerned in that moment God was a very DUMB FRAUD, I mean what other explanations could be given to such result

5As, 3Bs and 1F. An F powerful enough to invalidate the entire result, what was the point of the As and Bs if he was going to allow her end up with an F in maths. surprisingly mother and father didn't taunt or kill her, they rather encouraged her . duly medicated and in bed that night Nkoli was left pondering mama and papas reaction, in pondering she remembered that days like the one she just had could not end without commensuration and so she drew a memorial line on her right finger, rolling out of bed the next morning she was unmotivated and uninterested but her post utme examination was not going to write itself so she begrudgingly had a bath and got prepared. that morning after devotion mama and papa sat her down telling her how she needed to be calm and endeavour to do well in her utme exam that day she was too think fast and smart two very contradictory words to her person at the time, personally Nkoli's only problem with the whole post ume exam was how in God's name she was to do the maths. Papa had tried encouraging her telling her to put her WAEC result behind her and focus on her utme but how could she so with clammy hands and hope in her heart Nkoli left for unilag that day. Welcome to the University of Lagos there were so many people here students hustling and bustling and of course petty traders making the most of the sacred day in the lives of aspiring undergraduates selling unneeded stationery to most of the post utme candidates. her exam was scheduled for 10am that morning at dli. Welcome to distance learning institute DLI here she was face to face with a variable in the determinant of her destiny just before alighting the car lord help me she exclaimed uncle Sunday wish me luck she said and off she went to join the quee with other candidates most of whom were doing some form of revision or the other but she was honestly uninterested, what was the point anyways she didn't have a WAEC result. if you're for the post ume exam come this way a robust short black man dressed in a light blue short sleeved button shirt and dark blue trousers with a black beret like cap seated on his bald head and his black leather belt that seemed more like a waist trainer for his protruding stomach yelled and that was it in less than 20mins from his yelling Nkoli was seated in front of a computer about to begin her exam.

Login with your jamb registration number as your username, your password is your surname in lowercasing ,once you login you have 30mins to finish your exam after which the system will log you out . In 20mins Nkoli was done and out of the hall . She didn't bother with the math section of the examination, ,without reading the questions through she selected her answers by the music in her head . how was it mother asked when she got home . Well, oh oh what happened nkoli, nothing oh mama it was good actually except the ten maths questions I had to answer I even finished before time.
