Third Person P.O.V
"Want to go for a walk?" -Carson spoke as he was blankly looking up at the sky.
Adelaide had no reason to decline his offer. Although knowing how selfish she was being, she couldn't help but have the desire for good company or maybe just Carson's company right now. Humming in response to his question she started walking ahead of him.
Carson followed Adelaide as he kept his eyes on her back. They didn't speak much unless Carson directed Adelaide which way to go.
"Do you have a destination in mind?" -Adelaide curiously asked Carson as she turned around to face him while back-walking.
Carson smiled as he faced her and soon replied. "I do. Be careful, there's a dog behind you."
"Turning around and stopping Adelaide waited for Carson to reach up to where she stood. The dog with its owner had just passed by her but Carson wasn't beside her. Puzzled she turned around again, only to see him standing a few steps away from her, hand in the pockets of his jacket and his eyes fixed on her.
"Why'd you stop?" -He asked her, taking in her blank and yet puzzled expression.
"For you of course! Why did u stop?" -Adelaide replied blankly.
"To be able to look at you" -is what Carson wanted to say. He wanted her to know what he actually thought of her but he couldn't bring himself to say it out loud. Instead he made an excuse.
"No particular reason" -he replied while shaking his head and shrugging his shoulders."
"Then get you're arse over here!" -Adelaide spoke slightly ticked off by his response.
"Why? Walking like this is so much better!" -Carson giggled as he felt the need to annoy his best friend.
"So you are not going to walk beside me?" -Adelaide replied, not understanding why she was acting so childish.
Carson in response hummed a 'no' and smiled at her behaviour.
Adelaide walked up to him and stood next to him. "Which turn next?" -she asked.
"Changed you're tactics now did you?" he giggled before replying, "You sure have grown up."
"Yea, yeah. Now where to?"
"Follow me." -saying so Carson held Adelaide's hand and started running. After a few turns here and there they soon arrived at the Amalfi coast.
Panting hard, Adelaide hadn't taken in her surroundings. "What's with the sudden runin-"
Stopping mid-sentence Adelaide felt breathless, but for a different reason. Astonished and purely taken by awe, she covered her now agape mouth with her palms as she felt her eyes light up and sparkle. What she saw before her was so captivating that she felt elated.
The town which was now lit up by all the lights looked so alluring especially with the beautiful dark ocean before her which shone bright under the moonlight. It wasn't much but; just the simplicity of the beautiful night sky, the bright moon, the sparkly stars, the shiny sea and the towns lit up buildings that amplified the attractiveness of the coast made Adelaide feel fuzzy inside. She couldn't describe how she felt at the moment but she was sure it felt good. She knew that she felt really grateful towards Carson for bringing her here. She partly regretted not knowing about this beforehand, although it was only her first day in town.
"Captivating ain't it?" -She could hear Carson speak, but to her it felt like it came from the background.
"It's prepossessing." -She replied and turned to Carson who had now seated himself down on the grass.
"Haven't heard that term in a long time." -Carson spoke as turned to look at Adelaide from where he was seated. As their eyes met, Carson patted the ground beside him, motioning Adelaide to sit with him. Adelaide quickly followed his steps and seated herself beside Carson who removed his jacket and passed it to her.
"You're shivering." -he said, as she took his jacket.
"The view totally made me forget about that. Thanks." -Adelaide covered her legs with the jacket as she forget to change out of her shorts before starting the walk in a hurry. She brought her covered legs to her chest and hugged them tight to keep herself warm.
"Gives a lot of Crimea vibes, doesn't it?" -Carson felt nostalgic as he spoke.
"It really does. Papa took us there often as kids." -Adelaide smiled as she too recalled the delightful days she spent with her father and Carson back in Ukraine.
"You sure ran like a mad child." -Carson laughed.
"And whose fault is that?" -Adelaide smiled besides having felt wronged. She loved the days when they all spent time by the coastline. Laughing, giggling, smiling, chasing each other and also complaining about Carson to her father.
"My bad, my bad." -he said while looking at Adelaide whose eyes hadn't left the coast. She was mesmerizing under the moonlight. Her hair flew as the winds picked up, but she was unfazed, her eyes didn't leave the sea. Carson recalled how Addie would often get lost in thought when she was near oceans. She often said that something about the ocean or seas calming her and making her forget what she didn't want to think of. He was glad he brought her here. She seemed to be getting more and more out of focus. Just like how she would blank out when she was starting to forget.
"Ain't it amazing how so much beauty can be witnessed when there's light."
Carson was taken aback by Adelaide's statement. He couldn't comprehend or guess what possibly could have been going on in her mind. Not knowing how to react he thought of studying her more.
"Is that so?" -he waited for her reply as he continued observing her.
Adelaide on the other hand wanted to pull herself out of the darkness. She envied the beauty luminescent people carried. She wanted to change. She wanted to overcome her misery. She wanted to be like other luminescent people.
The only obstacle that lay in her way of achieving her desire was the method. Adelaide had no idea how she could get over her darkness. She didn't know how she could leave behind her sadness, her pain, her guilt.
Thinking back on Carson's question she replied - "Isn't it obvious?"
"It's not obvious. Which is why I questioned it Addie. Now come on, be more specific please."
"Okay, okay! As the smarter one I'll explain it."
"Go ahead."
"One needs light to see Carson. Without there being light one can't see. 'Reflection of light' remember?"
Carson couldn't help but laugh. "Since when has you're thinking become so shallow?"
"W-what?!" -Adelaide felt utterly baffled by Carson's response. "I was speaking facts you dumbass!"
It wasn't exactly embarrassing but Adelaide felt like she was totally being teased and she didn't like it, especially not right now.
"Now, now no need to get harsh. Although I must say, maybe you still are childish."
Carson couldn't help but genuinely laugh as he saw Adelaide's expression. She was clearly offended.
"No, I am not!" -she refuted.
"If that is the case then tell me when do you need light?"
"Of course when it's dark. You really take me for a foo...l"
"It hit you right? Lights are meaningless without Darkness Addie." -as he said those words Carson smiled, while Adelaide felt emotional. She partly teared up as she realised that maybe she was in the right phase of her life. Although It may be dark but... there needs to be darkness for the light that shines to be meaningful and useful.
