Carson's P.O.V
I woke up groggily as I felt light hitting my face. I tried blocking it with my hand but I failed. It was too strong, as though its only purpose was to wake me up. Without thinking twice I sat up with my eyes still closed. I didn't want to get up, at least not right now. It felt as though something was weighing me down as I felt utterly exhausted. Slowly, against my will I tried to open my eyes.
My iron clad eyelids finally separated to reveal a lady seated at a chair by the island wearing a plain white frock, with her dark black shoulder-length hair covering her face. Her head was hung low and it looked as though there was something dark, evil and seemingly endless that emitted from her. It was hard to make out whether she was emitting it or getting engulfed by it.
"Wait a minute. I-isn't that a-a g-ghost? D-during day time at that? Oh my gosh! Am I dead? I... I must be dreaming." -I was speaking to myself, or rather just thinking as the ghost hadn't reacted.
Carefully I pinched myself and soon covered my mouth to stop the emerging scream as I felt the pain. "I-its real. The pain is real. T-that means..." -before I completed my thoughts I screamed as realisation struck me.
"Aaaaah!" -In fear I brought my body closer to myself along with whatever covered me. Screaming was my biggest mistake. I caught her attention. She slowly turned to face me with her hair slowly moving away from her face. I shut my eyes as I raised my hand in front of me ready to face the jump-scare which never came.
"Oh! You're finally awake?" -I knew that voice. Hesitantly I opened my eyes to see Adelaide very close to my face. Noticing her clothes I sighed in relief.
"You nearly gave me a heart attack!" -I sat back straight as I looked at her laughing with ease.
Catching her breath she spoke. "How's it my fault?" she ended her sentence with a giggle.
"Why we're you sitting there in such an eerie manner? Is something the matter?" -I asked concerned if her troubles hadn't left her.
"Oh there's a huge ass problem we have here." -she got up from beside me and walked towards the kitchen.
"And what is the huge ass problem?" -I said trying to follow her only to realise that I'm still inside the sleeping bag. While opening the zip of the back so that I can get out of it I heard Adelaide speak.
"There's nothing for breakfast."
"Ah..." -I replied as I finally came out of the sleeping bag and started walking towards the island that separated the kitchen and living room. "If you hadn't insisted on me sleeping over maybe we would at the very least have some cereals to munch on."
"And how would such a miracle happen?" -she spoke as she looked at me with a 'questioning the almighty' look.
"You know my mom. She wakes me up at six o'clock to this day. Naturally getting up way before my office hours I would've gotten you a few groceries had I not overslept here. Wait, how are you up so early?" checking my phone for the time I continued "It's only 8a.m."
"You know I am capable of getting up on time as well." -her expression was clearly one of someone who is annoyed as she spoke.
"If you say so. Let me just quickly freshen up before we grab something for breakfast." -saying so I went to the washroom to do my usual routine with unexpected complications arising due to the lack of my belongings. After freshening up I left the washroom and went towards Adelaide who was drinking water.
"Wanna tag along to get breakfast?" -I clearly caught her by surprise as she jumped slightly upon hearing me.
"I wish I could, honestly. I still got unpacking to do..." -she replied with her clumsy voice.
"Well that's fine. Would you like a cappuccino or a latte?" As I saw her contemplating face I felt the need to tease her. "Maybe an Espresso is what you need." seeing her expression change into a grossed out face was truly a sight.
"A latte for me please."
"Betraying your espresso huh?" -oh how I loved making her recall her terrible experience with her very first gulp of espresso.
"Yes, yes I am." -her playing along just ended the purpose of bringing up her pains.
"Well that's my cue to be thy slave. Lock the door okay?" -I said as I gathered my phone and wallet and left the apartment. Closing the door behind me I waited to hear the clicks of the door locks before heading out to the nearest café.
I found a bakery on my way to the café down the street and decided to get a loaf of brioche and box of Popeyes biscuits as Adelaide doesn't eat much for breakfast. After getting a take out of a cup of cappuccino for myself and a latte for Addie, I headed out the café.
While walking past the shops I noticed the date on today's newspaper only to realise that the remaining furniture for Addie's hall will arrive today. With great struggle I checked the time by my watch and started fast walking. The furniture is to arrive at roughly nine a.m. and it is now eight twenty a.m. Even an hour wasn't enough. Adelaide can surprisingly be such a slow eater at breakfast that even a sloth could beat her at finishing her food. Knowing this I increased my walking pace so that she has enough time to eat before the people arrive.
Arriving within what I assumed to be five minutes, I rang the doorbell impatiently. Luckily she didn't take long to open the door all the while even checking the intercom beforehand. She makes me so proud of her at times when she isn't behaving like a fool.
I rushed in and placed everything on the island. I was about to unwrap the packaging when I heard-
"Wait!" -Addie came to me and smacked my hand. "What's the rush for? Wash you're hands first you dirty child." -her cleanliness freak spoke.
"Ah sorry, sorry! Start before me, the living room furniture will arrive by nine a.m. so eat fast okay?" -I said while heading to the washroom to sanitize my hands.
As I was walking back to the kitchen I saw Addie reaching out to one of the coffee cups. On sipping the coffee her expression changed.
"Sorry. I guess I took yours by mistake."
"Its alright. But you could've at least checked what it read." -I laughed as I spoke.
"I was in dire need of caffeine don't blame me!" -she replied while giving me the cup of cappuccino that she was holding. Taking a sip of latte she exhaled with pleasure.
"Now that's the reason why caffeine addicts exist." -she spoke while smiling and opening the box of biscuits.
"Oh! These look different." -she said while holding a biscuit in her hands.
"Of course they do. They're made in Italy after all." -I replied while removing the loaf of bread and breaking my share before diving into my cappuccino.
"My oh my are they a lovely bunch!" -she spoke with her mouth filled with the biscuit.
"Expected you to like it." -I replied while smiling at her. She truly acted like a child at the most unexpected times.
What shook me the most after a short while was that Addie had finished eating her breakfast on time. It was the first time since we've been separated that I saw her not getting a push to eat faster. I smiled as I thought to myself. "So you really have grown up a lot."
