Adelaide's P.O.V
It felt great going through the everyday things we once did together.
The furniture delivery had arrived right on scheduled time, they truly were very efficient and punctual with their work. Within half an hour everything had been unwrapped and set.
I looked around the room satisfied with its setting.
There actually wasn't much that Carson had ordered. Only a sapphire coloured Contemporary Mid-century Modern Sofa and a three-legged, round, chrome, nesting coffee table. Facing the room from the island, the sofa stood a few inches apart from the left wall and parallel to the sofa stood the round coffee tables. All-in-all the room looked less empty but more unpleasant. I couldn't wait to bring the room to life with all the ideas that rushed through my mind.
"Let's go." -I said facing Carson.
"Go where?" -he replied after wiping off his creepy content smile.
"Furniture shopping what else?" -I replied in 'duh' kind of tone.
"Right now?"
"If not now then when?"
He looked at me from top to bottom before replying. "Maybe once we don't look like zombies?"
I looked at him, long and hard. Sighing I replied.
"Let's meet in an hour. I'm sorry for being so troublesome and needy but, can you please help this poor soul in a strange city." - I tried my level best puppy face but Carson seemed unfazed.
"We're in a town Addie, and you don't have to go this far to get my help. Like I said, for you I am always willing and ready."
I cringed. I couldn't understand how he still managed to say such cliché lines.
"Anyways. Take you're time getting ready, I'll keep my list ready. See you soon!" -I responded while partly pushing him towards the apartments door.
"Try and keep it to one round please." -he said timidly before closing the door and mostly heading off to his place.
I stretched while entering the not so empty living room and spoke aloud to myself.
"Since I'm done with unpacking that tiny luggage, I should get down to modelling this beautiful hall."
Going back a few steps I took in the space and already existing furniture and started cancelling various ideas one by one. If your curious as to which one's I cancelled lemme just give you a gist of them.
One- A life size leopard statue by the window sill.
Its no surprise why I immediately dismissed that lovely idea.
Two- a snake lamp post, again by the window for a good reading spot. But then, that would surely scare the sanity out of Carson every single time he were to see it.
Three- a fake machine-gun with bullets. But that would just take up good places.
Four- a pond printed carpet. A good pool of water right in the middle of the room. Wouldn't that be utterly astonishing!
Five- The closest skeleton I can find of an Poposauroidea?
Six- A manly dressed mannequin? -just in case any stranger barges in.
Seven- A casket with a bright, bloody red and of course fake heart?
There were a few more grotesque ideas that popped up quite frequently until I slowly envisioned the living room I wanted.
Which by the way, was far and I mean really really far away from the surreal ideas that had come to my mind before.
Noting down the rough requirements for the hall, I went to my room to change. Grabbing a white T-shirt and the nearest jeans which luckily was blue, I went to the washroom humming a random piece that abruptly came to my mind. Washing only my face as I had taken a bath before Benjamin woke up, I quickly changed my clothes. Tucking my shirt in and leaving its top two buttons open to make it a V neck, I left the washroom after giving myself one final look in the mirror.
Passing the hallway it occurred to me that a small wooden dressing table? oh never mind a floor standing mirror instead would be better. I guess there was plenty space between the door and the cupboard in my room. Walking into the room and confirming the space before tidily putting my hair into a high ponytail and wearing my white sneakers, I mentally made a note to search for a shoe-rack.
Heading to the hall after grabbing my handbag and phone, I kept the sticky note with all the required items in my jeans back pocket and decided to wait for Benjamin downstairs. Locking the door and keeping the key in my handbag's side pocket I started walking down the stairs as I started thinking what kind of doormats would suit the entrance.
I guess I was hopping while humming and that in turn caught me a lot of attention. Good or bad no idea, but mixed for sure. One elderly couple who were probably on a walk, passed by me while giggling, most probably at my behaviour, cause the lady's eyes never left me until I was out of her sight, just like how she was out of mine. 'Behave Adel! First impressions are important!' -I said mentally shouting at myself.
From the far corner of my eye I caught sight of a man whose dressing style matched that of Benjamin, although in my perspective many men dress the same as him, but Benjamin's hair sure gives him his unique 'spottable anywhere' tag. Sometimes his hair could be so unruly that it reminds me (and I guess anyone who looks at it for that matter) of a poodle.
Deciding on being a good gentle lady and not abruptly disturbing his peace, I waited as patiently as I could for Carson to come up to the building, but that didn't last long. My amazing little best-friend had decided that a passing by puppy was more important than a waiting me. Yes! Yes, I know a passing by puppy is absolutely adorable and extremely hard not to pet but, I was waiting!
Having no more of waiting, I marched towards where Benjamin stood with a bewitching little ball of absolutely captivatingly white fur! The pace of my steps increased. Oh it wasn't for that cute little mass of white fur. Yes, it was to go shopping at the earliest with Benjamin. But then, I saw Benjamin standing up from where he sat. No! that means the puppy is leaving!
Fine I couldn't deceive myself now could I? Running I caught up to Benjamin and passed him a quick 'hi' before looking at that absolutely precious little puppy. Oh I felt like my heart was melting!
"Is it a Maltese?" -I enquired while being completely smitten by the charming little baby.
The lady giggled a little, probably at my stupidity. "Its a Maltese poodle." -she replied.
I tried containing my laughter while imagining Benjamin's hair. Composing myself quickly with the help of the puppy's dorky behaviour I quickly patted his absolutely captivating and small head. Ah! I just wanted to make it mine so bad.
As though reading my mind, Benjamin spoke. "We better get going. Hoping to see you soon neve."
And just like that the only joy that I received today left me.
"Took you long enough." -I said
"I had little work to attend." -he completed his sentence with an awkward laugh.
"The work being petting neve?" -I replied almost glaring at him.
"No, of course not!"
And just like that we bickered on our way to the furniture store.
