Chapter 15 - Time Lapse?!

Adelaide's P.O.V

I'm back to where I started. No matter how hard I tried, this was unavoidable.

Monday is here... yet again.

"Ugh..." -I said as I left my bed, only to turn back and fix the damage I caused it last night. As obvious as it is, Monday mornings suck. To add to the disappointment, I had a few important things to take care of today. Sighing I left the room to freshen up.

After freshening up, I quickly made a cup of coffee for myself. Looking at the hall from the Island made me realise why the past week flew by faster.

Taking a sip of my coffee and smiling in contentment, I recalled the troubles taken by Benjamin. Although having had fulfilled his wishes of completing shopping in a day, he was upset by how that applied only to furniture shopping. I mean furniture ain't all a person needs but, to his luck, the shops we visited had everything I needed which sure made it a one afternoon trip.

The remaining days although went by in getting more necessities. Vessels to cook in, not that I cook unless needed. Basic utensils like crockeries, a microwave and a coffee maker. Luckily, Benjie had already booked a refrigerator, so we just booked a forty-inch TV which is most likely to arrive tomorrow. I bought a set of photo-frames for the wall, only to later realise I don't have many pictures to frame, so instead I just framed a picture of me and Papa at the beach along with Benjamin. The frame ended up being rather big, so I decided to put it on the spiralled C-table by the right wall.

My hall has now been presentably modified with a baby blue carpet below the nesting tables, a rolling chair on the right-side of the window accompanied by a black Down-bridge Lamp for a perfect reading spot. On the right wall stood the C-table with the beach frame and a lovely blue vase containing cherry pink roses which very unfortunately were fake. I arranged a few scented candles on the windowsill and a lovely acrylic blue vase on the bigger of the two nesting tables, the vase consisted of red and white Dahlias which too were fake. It hurt me to know I couldn't keep real ones. I also decided to test my luck, yet again, by keeping a pot of Kentia Palm on a round, wooden, side table towards the left side of the window.

"Ah the joy simplicity provides." -I spoke out before finishing my cup of coffee and washing it. I got ready in my best available formal outwear which was none other than my black suit set. Putting my hair in a bun and checking the confirmation mail, I set out to the café at the central road.

Before arriving at Amalfi, I found a few pictures of mama running her own café and knowing that mama had to quit due to her health issues made me want to fulfil her dreams in her stead. Luckily, the owners of the central café were selling their shop in a hurry so I was able to purchase it at a low price thanks to the realtor, but since I am the worst barista to walk the planet I thought letting them keep the shop would be much more safe and economical. And so! Today I am finally going to meet these wonderful owners.

I hadn't heard much about their situation before meeting them due to which I was caught rather off-guard. The café had no customers except for a few elderly men sitting in the corner smoking. A lady approached me and it is from her that I found out their situation. The said lady, Sofia, was the daughter of one of the elderly men, and she informed me of how their state came to this.

Her father, Riccardo, owned this shop and ran it with his friend who instead of collectively paying off the loan taken for the café, ran away with the interest amount collected over the years.

"Papa hasn't had the will to run the shop since then. We tried helping as much as we could but, there is only so much we can do. I have to return back home to my husband in Sorrento but, mama is too worried about leaving Papa like this, always drinking or smoking." -Sofia ended her sentence with a sigh.

"Did your father want to give up on the shop?" -I questioned in hopes of finding any relief for Riccardo.

"No... he adored the shop too much to give up on it. But, he couldn't help but agree about selling it to pay the loan."

"How about we do this? I'll let you all run the shop on your own with maybe a few improvisations, and you can just pay me monthly rent." -as I proposed this to Sofia I could see her eyes light up in excitement.

"Oh my gosh! Really? That is such wonderful news! Papa would be absolutely overjoyed!"

It seemed as though Sofia was impatient to intimate her father.

My phone's notification caught my attention right then. "Sorry Sofia. I got to go right now. Talk to your father and let me know what he thinks. I'll personally come and discuss it with him tomorrow, if that works out."

"Yes I will. Thank you so much." - she replied and wipes her tears?! Oh my! I got to get out of here soon. Smiling an awkward and yet genuine smile at her, I shook her hands and left the café.

The message that got me to my heels was simply- "You're **** forty-inch TV is on it's way. Thank you for choosing *****. Please do fill the feedback form attached below and let us know how satisfied you are with our services. Thank you once again for choosing us."

I must say, I was quite surprised by how I read the entire message, probably because it was coming earlier than scheduled, but that being besides the point, I had to rush home. Which might I add, I did. I caught the first tax I saw, kept my card ready to pay the driver, cursed at every red light that was in the way and finally after getting off of the taxi, I ran like a mad-lady to my doorstep.

Taking deep breathes, I unlocked the door and entered in. "Nothing better than being on-time." I spoke to myself while huffing. Quickly washing my hands and face, I for some reason impatiently waited for my TV set to arrive. The wait was far from ending. The tunnel of waiting always only seemed to have a opening.

Suddenly it felt weird. I couldn't really grasp where time flew by.

I was now looking at my perfect choice. The **** forty-inch TV. It rested so beautifully on the wall opposite to the sofa. They even arranged it at the right height. I realised why I was impatient.

Just like every Interior Designer, I couldn't help but eagerly wait in order to grasp the beauty of my creation in its entirety.

The living room was finally complete, and I was elated!
