Chapter 7 - Andromeda Training Facility

It is seven in the morning and Vincent woke up just like he does every day. After years of creating the habit of waking up early for work, it seems that sleeping in is no longer an option. Since he couldn't just fall asleep, it was a good time to reflect on everything that happened so far to really understand how to move forward. First, he definitely had to update the blog where he learned so much information about new skills being developed. It wasn't the greatest help to him at the time but hopefully his experience will help others with a similar type of skill. Second, what is he going to do next? He quit his job so he suddenly has a lot of free time on his hands to work on his skill. He will have to reserve a spot at the Andromeda training facility. It is a military funded facility where people could practice using their powers and potentially get scouted by a recruiter to join the Alpha force. The Alpha force is a team of special individuals whose main objective is to take down the opposition. They were idolized as superheroes by the masses so their branch received the most funding allowing the Alpha force members to live extravagant lives. Realistically the chances of joining this elite force are incredibly slim due to the high level of skill control and development necessary. Vince could at least test out his skill on some unsuspecting training dummies and practice practical applications for a fire-based power.

The reservation system is all online which is always a good thing for Vince. The idea of picking up the phone to speak to another person just brought bouts of anxiety that he liked to avoid. It is much easier to fill out a form yourself online with no pressure. The last thing he would want to happen is that he misspeaks and messes up the registration process which would surely be an inconvenience on the person working. He never really looked into the Andromeda facility because you had to have a POWER watch to get in and that simply wasn't in the cards. Now that he is on the site, he might as well do some research into what he is going to experience. He wasn't able to find a floor plan like he had hoped. He would feel more comfortable walking through if he had a general idea of where everything was located but it makes sense that the floor plan of a military facility would be kept confidential. He went to the tab titles 'Powers'- This shows the different types of powers that they are set up to accommodate: Fire, Plant, Water, Light, Shadow, Electric, Physical. Fire was a surprisingly uncommon power considering how basic of an element it seemed. Most people developing a water related power.

Reserving a spot on the site wasn't as difficult as he would have imagined. He put in his basic contact information, demographics, social security number, and his power type. That allowed him to open up the scheduling screen where he could reserve a time for his first practice session. There was availability as early as today for his power type so he went ahead and scheduled it. Most people in training tend to wear outfits that allude to their power or skill in a superhero-type fashion. it gave the illusion that they were in more control of their power and that they might be ready to join the military and even the Alpha force. Vince doesn't have a flashy costume much less the funds to purchase one so gym shorts and a t-shirt will have to do. Vincent quickly got dressed and set out for his first visit to the Andromeda facility

There were at least 10 floors to this building. Many of the floors being full concrete and devoid of windows. Others were a clean reflective glass where occasional lights could be seen flashing. There were a few flights of stairs leading up to the large, glass front doors and Vince passed by many'interestingly' dressed individuals along the way. No matter how ridiculous some of these people may look, he still felt under-dressed walking up to such an impressive building. His anxiety was starting to take over but it is something that he will have to keep working through if he wants to reach his goal of making a living. He stepped up to the entrance and made his way inside to the front desk.
