Chapter 4 - The Opposition

"Fire...FIRE!" Vince couldn't believe the outcome of waiting overnight for a result. He read online that for most people it only took a few minutes but fire is less common than water so maybe that explains it. Something strange happened though. There is a comma and question marks next to fire. Could there be another power? Can anyone have multiple powers? Why is it not showing up? Surely the watch is malfunctioning so he took it off and decided to bring it into the tech shop.

"Hey Todd, how is it going?", Vince said as he walked in a door that he didn't expect to just a day after quitting.

"Coming back to beg for your job already, kid?" Todd joked.

"My power is fire but it looks like my watch malfunctioned. There is a space next to fire with three question marks." Vince said. Todd took the watch and checked it for physical damage.

"It looks fine, kid. The software is state of the art so maybe you just got a little somethin' extra in ya. It didn't entirely make sense to Vince but he figured as long as he has his main power, whatever is blocked out by the watch doesn't really matter.

"Thanks for the insight Todd!" Vince said as he made his way out of the store. The good news is: he finally has a POWER watch. The bad news: Vince doesn't have any skills to use it. He thought to himself about how people acquire skills. Practicing from someone with a skill takes years and even still nothing is guaranteed. The military and opposition have power skills but you have to risk your life to get one. Not to mention those skills are collected from people killed in combat. He still has $5,000 so maybe purchasing one is his only hope. Normal skill stores will not be affordable so he will have to go somewhere he knows is a bad idea- the opposition territory.

Vince traversed through one of the opposition territories and ran into a highschool friend turned rebel. Vince could not get a word out about wanting to purchase a fire power skill before Josh and his buddies went on the offensive and threatened to hurt Vince. Vince managed to say, "I'd like to buy a fire skill!" before he was attacked. Because of their relationship, Vince was only roughed up a little as Josh, his ex-friend, had to maintain an image in front of the other gang members. Josh gained the ability to release a blinding light early on. His plan was to join the military special force with his unique skill but was recruited by the opposition before he had the chance to do much with his new power.

Vince knew it could have been worse had it been anyone else. He knew it was because of Josh that he was still alive today. Even if all of his money was stolen- he could earn it back. Vincent made his way to the shower, a place he could clear his mind and think more clearly. "Why did I think that was going to work", Vincent said aloud. He went into the opposition territory in order to buy a power skill of the fire type so that he could finally gain some notoriety in the world. For people with usable skills, finding a high-paying job is easy. Whether it is in the field of your power or as security, there was always a high demand for people with powers.
