Chapter 21 - 21. 'These f*ckers..."

Sophia had overheard their conversation from the side where she was hiding behind the planks and her expression was one worth seeing. Extreme disbelief and annoyance marred her usually emotionless face.

'You f*cking expect me to believe that these godd*mn mercenaries and f*cking "law-abiding" bodyguards can work together?! These f*cking sc*m, just fight it out and get it over with! Why in the world are you teaming up?!'

As her heart was busy cursing those motherf*ckers with anything and everything she could muster up, Sophia quietly made her way up to the ceiling planks. From there she would be hidden from view and can spy on them all the while having a better advantage at escape even if they were to discover her.

Despite being so prepared for this, Sophia was still mentally cursing everyone in their family tree when they decided to start by searching for clues within the barn. Of course, this also meant looking for anything that Sophia could have used as she helped the girls out of the barn.

As they split up to search high and low, they didn't forget to look for anything up at the ceiling. Due to the low lighting, Sophia was well hidden and out of sight so even when several men looked up they saw nothing out of the ordinary.

The search went on and the shouts of each of the men announcing their results filled the room. Sophia was immersed in observing them but that also didn't mean that she wasn't aware of the motherf*cking Leo who had crept up on her upon seeing a suspicious-looking shadow up on the ceiling.

Leo had on him a taser in one hand and a loaded G7 pistol in the other. When he was about a meter away from Sophia he quietly hid after ensuring that it was an actual person. Though he couldn't confirm whether that person was the person they were looking for, he was roughly sure that it was her. The dark figure was similar to a small body, very similar to the body of the Luna. Besides even if it wasn't her, this person was watching them, no matter what this person needs to go.

If anything leaked out it would mean trouble for them and their employers. Most of all their future. Even a single detail leaked from tonight could destroy the order within the society and make them jobless and homeless within the blink of an eye. Or they could be blackmailed for something. Neither was a good option.

As he was readying the taser, he missed the sight of the figure for a second, and as he looked around for her when he suddenly felt a suppressed presence behind him.

Sophia had long senses his presence but she wanted to end this quickly hence she "took the bait" and waited for him to show up to her himself. Like a fisherman waiting for the fish to take the bait, Sophia waited until Leo got close enough.

With a blur, Sophia jumped from one plank to the other right behind Leo. Leo only had the chance to hide from Sophia's view and check on his taser before Sophia struck his neck with full force from behind. Without as much as a sound, Leo was knocked out and his body went limp within a second.

He was about to fall headfirst into the ground but Sophia couldn't let that happen because the others would be alerted so she pulled him towards her. While this was happening, the taser in this hand slipped! Luckily, Sophia had managed to grab hold of it at the very last second.

Unfortunately, though, the rush of actions made Leo's arm touch the pistol resting on the plank! Both her hands were holding stuff and she couldn't move! She could only watch as the pistol fell on the ground and arouse the attention of several men around the room.

"Who's there?! Show yourself?"

Many had already gathered around the area from which the gun fell. Their guns were pointing at the estimated location from which the gun fell and in general all over the ceiling planks where they could be hiding.

Sophia had already made her way towards a corner but even so, she didn't have much time hence Leo was sitting on the placks leaning against a su[porting piller with both his feet dangling across the side of a plank. Despite everything, the men were able to tell that something was off.

Arlo had also noticed the unnatural form of the Leo so he silently gestured for his men to get ready. The gun had fallen not long ago so no matter how fast the person was they wouldn't be able to get away from here. As long as they were cautious the person wouldn't have a chance to escape.

They wouldn't let the person escape!

Coincidently, Sophia was in a corner right in front of Arlo so she clearly saw his gestures and the swift but subtle movements of several mercenaries.

Knowing that she won't be able to get away unharmed, Sophia decided to be the one to attack rather than wait for her doom. After all, she can manage to get an advantage if she can take down some of the men silently.

Her plan was solid but the men were too many. They were also professionals hence they knew what to do in such situations and despite facing the gun, they were using their peripheral vision to look out for any movements.

Indeed.

Within a minute they noticed a blur of black going down from the top of the ceiling to the floor. Not even taking a second to confirm anything they started rushing to give orders and follow them.

"Right corner, get her!"

"Block the door!"

"Get the side planks!"

Shouts resonated across the barn and the men all rushed in different directions. Those closer to the entrance of the barn ran to block the entrance while a few others moved to the "side door" that was blocked from the planks. They had found it while searching for clues.

No matter how fast Sophia was, she was surrounded by all sides.

Seven mercenaries.

Ten bodyguards.

One bodyguard down, four bodyguards blocking her exits while the rest surrounded her in a semi-circle.

Arlo walked forward and with a satisfied grin, he looked at Sophia. "B*tch, we finally caught you. Did you really think you'd be able to escape from us? Huh?"

Sophia just rolled her eyes slightly and looked around. She had no intention to entertain this crazy motherf*cker.

Arlo had his eyes fixed on Sophia. He was anticipating to see the fear and hopelessness that she would feel when she was all surrounded by them. However, when he had finally managed to make this a reality but instead of seeing fear in her eyes, she was rolling her eyes at them?!

"You sl*t! Did you just ignore me?!"

Sophia finally stopped looking around and fixed her gaze at Arlo. Her face was covered sp no expressions could be seen besides her nonchalant and mocking eyes. "Yea. You couldn't tell?"

Arlo's eyes turned red and he badly wanted to strangle her! In his fit of rage, Arlo was ready to head straight for Sophia but the two bodyguards next to him stopped him. They couldn't kill the girl and judge by how rash this supposedly experienced mercenary was at the moment, they didn't dare take a risk.

No matter what, they still needed her alive. That was the only way to ensure their futures.

"Calm down Arlo!"

"She's just messing with your head! Don't let her trick you again!"

Arlo was busy harling his teeth and reaching with his hands towards Sophia but when he heard the word "trick", he stopped. Like a reset button that was pushed, all his rage disappeared. He calmed down and readjusted his emotions.

The bodyguards saw that he was more rational at the moment hence they let him go with some hesitation in their eyes.

Arlo didn't care about them though. He focused his eyes on Sophia and stared deep into her eyes. There was a hidden glint of mirth right under his nonchalant facade. Having cooled down Arlo naturally didn't dare be so rash.

What was the fun in that?

He wanted to have lots of fun with this little girlie. She dared to trick them so he should also return the favor. Should he not?

The air around him turned dark and suffocating and the two bodyguards who were restraining him just a few seconds ago were frightened to the bones! Not wanting to provoke this devil, they moved away from him as quietly as possible.
