The weekend passed as quickly as if it were pollen in the wind and at last Monday had reached. For Kaylee, she knew things were about to get a lot harder than what they were initially but whatever was waiting for her at school took her totally unawares. While Tyler had already known about Kaylee, his first step was to make her life miserable. He did not care if she was a child or a teen in fact he wanted to kill her at first. But after a lot of thought, he realised the best way to punish her would be to take what she valued the most.
Kaylee got ready very slowly that day, it was as if she was being forced to go to school. But in fact, she was just forcing herself to attain her high school degree and have an exceptional certificate. She got ready grabbed her bag and made sure everything was ready inside it. She then rushed through the stairs to have her breakfast and medicine. She found her grandmother making pancakes in the kitchen with a plate full of them on the kitchen counter. She grabbed syrup from the fridge and dipped the pancakes in syrup as she gobbled them down. Her grandmother saw how she was eating her food and immediately said, "Why are you eating like that?!! The food's not going anywhere, and neither are you if you don't eat slowly."
"MMhph. Sorry... Okay, am done now."
"Have your medicine before you go. And please be careful of your powers okay?"
"Okay... love you, grandma." She said as she kissed her grandma on the forehead as she now seated on the couch with a plate full of syrup and another hand with hot coffee. She wore a colourful skirt and a blouse with her hair tied in a bun.
Kylee went out of the house, closed the door gently and rode to school in her torn up old and creaking bike which was to break down anytime. When she reached school she removed her lock and locked her bicycle. She then fixed her bag properly as she looked around at the students who were entering the building. She felt people talking and whispering behind her in groups as she walked to the main building she was nervous.
She entered the building with her heart thumping as if threatening to break out of her body. Her face was filled with sweat for no particular reason. As she walked to her locker, her hands were cold, her feet were heavy and she kept biting her lips. She could feel people increasing the talking behind her back as she walked at an increased pace. When she reached her locker she could understand why. Her locker was filled with words such as 'witch' and 'murderer' in red marker and huge bold handwriting. She instantly stopped breathing.
She could feel her lungs close up and it was getting harder and harder to breathe, she remembered Justus's accident. The harsh emotions, the feelings, the immense distrust and fear in his heart all come back to her at once. She could feel a tingling sensation in her heart as it was like a stabbing pain in her heart. A certain warmth rushed through her body as she felt like crying.
Amidst all the feelings, thoughts and confusion someone tapped Kaylee's shoulder. She turned her head and faced the start of her worst nightmare. Clare. She stood straight ready to challenge Kaylee to the ends of the world. The hatred Clare had on her face, it was as if Kaylee had intentionally murdered her parents. Kaylee looked her right in the eye.
And Clare suddenly shoved her to the ground. She pushed her with her right hand as Kaylee lost balance and fell on the dirty. Kaylee sat on the cold hard ground, her heartfelt like pouring what kind of hardships she had been through. Her mouth wanted to explain the situation she was in. She wanted to tell them that it was not her fault and that she could see the future by chance. But she couldn't. That was the only thing that held her back. Her thoughts of how people would react to it. Would they also kill her? Would they cut her brains apart and experiment on her. What exactly would they even do her? She asked herself as she was in the dusty filled hallway.
Slowly, she stood up and dusted her back with both her hands as she turned from side to side. After that, she glared at Clare wanting to deliver a warning but Clare came closer to her. When she was a few inches near her she whispered in her ear,
"Stop glaring at me, you murderer. You think so highly of yourself. Those eyes killed someone.... And don't even try to use them on me. AM going to make your little life unbearable, you witch."
She then gently moved back and let Kaylee stand alone in the hallway while her heart had suddenly stopped. Clare turned her back and left with Sarah following her like a shadow. Kaylee just stood alone as the other students watched. None dared to intervene between the little show. They all thought Kaylee deserved it since she had something to do with the accident. Although they were some, some whose hearts were too kind to believe that Kaylee would ever do such a thing. People like Rhoda, the class president and Ricardo the class nerd who wanted to believe that Kaylee was a better person than most had anticipated.
As Kaylee turned around and wanted to go to the bathroom and cry her heart out. But she saw girls coming in and out of the washroom. She just opened her locker took some books and as she closed it, Rhoda and Ricardo joined her.
"Hey...Are you okay?" Rhoda asked in distress.
"Follow me," added Ricardo as he left off into the busy and endlessly filled hallway.
He walked as the others followed and none rose an issue or a question about it until they reached the old lab. Nobody could be seen near or around the lab. He showed her to the table where they first sat down doing the project and offered her some water.
Kaylee could not control her tears anymore as she started weeping uncontrollably in front of her friends. They just watched and tried to sympathise with her. No one said a word as Kaylee cried her heart out. She kept her head on the tiled fixed table with her hands covering her face. Ricardo and Rhoda touched her back and gently caressed it as they were simply quiet. A few minutes later she stopped weeping and sobbing then looked at her friends.
"Am fine, you guys. You can go back to class." Kaylee stated amidst heavy whimpering.
"How can you be fine? You were just from being mistreated by that really stupid girl who can not even count. Do you want me to report her?" continued Rhoda.
"No. please don't. And it's not her. It's...it's nothing."Kaylee continued.
"Kaylee, you know that you can trust us right?"Ricardo mumbled.
"Yeah, I know. Thanks, guys. I really appreciate it. But you should go back to class now. It's going to start soon am just going to take a few minutes then go back to class."
Ricardo and Rhoda left the old lab and proceeded with caution back to the busy hallway. "Do you think we should report it?" asked Rhoda with her hands touching her pink backpack.
"No. If she said we shouldn't I think we should respect her choices, Rhoda."
" What!!! Okay then. But just so know I told the headmaster about what Justus did to you and he was suspended. I could tell them again. Or those police officers. Anyone..."
"Rhoda, please let's just listen to her. Plus those guys from the basketball team aren't treating me that nice either."
"Okay. But just you if it continues bullying people especially Kaylee. I am going to suing her and her whole family and even their pet." Rhoda said as she stomped away in fury with her hands making little fists.
Ricardo tried to understand whatever Rhoda just said before stomping off, but it was too impossible to even wrap his head around. It was too funny and he started smirking at the mere idea of trying to sue a pet. As he smiled widely, he remembered what Kaylee had to go through and he started to blame himself. How could he let his friend defend her then suffer because of him? If he was a little stronger nothing would have happened to anyone, he thought about it. His thoughts were interrupted by the bell as he rushed to his first period. He quickly entered the class as he saw the teacher had already reached and was writing on the board. As he sat on his desk he thought about Kaylee. Was she in class? Or was she still in the old lab? Is she okay, wherever she may be?
