Kaylee woke up in the middle of the night as she heard a loud bang outside. The room was extremely dark with no single light coming from all around as she tried touching everywhere trying to find out where exactly she was going to. She made her way to the light switch and tried flicking it back and forth but nothing seemed to happen. She could feel the cold and cruel night deluding her bones as she shivered and trembled. She wore nothing on her feet as the dry air made its way to her pale feet she coiled herself.
Amidst all the untrue feelings of the utmost freezing night, she had an episode. An episode that involved huge men who looked like hooligans walking into her house after swinging the door open. They were about seven to ten men and had worn all black. Their faces could not be seen but they seemed to be not stealing anything but rather walking around all around the house whilst damaging whatever they came across. They broke the windows with vases and shoes and removed all the utensils and cutlery from the kitchen cabinets and threw them on the ground, some on the couch and everywhere around the house. When her grandmother tried to stop them by holding their arms and restraining them from further damages one of them pushed her hard against the kitchen counter which made her sustain a head injury. Blood started oozing out of her head as Kaylee ran across the stairs and took the kitchen cloth and tried to stop the bleeding.
Immediately the episode ended Kaylee gasped with her hand on her mouth as she silently fell to the floor. Her body felt numb as the cold air seemed to be the least of her worries. She could not believe someone would actually send people to do that. She wanted to at least try and stop them but didn't know how to stop gigantic killer men who looked like mercenaries. Paid to kill and enjoy their work with the uttermost happiness while their victims suffer indescribable death pains and sometimes just pain which leads to suicide.
Kaylee erased everything from her mind and tried to find the courage within herself to help her grandmother. She stood up from the floor and tried to find a torch which was somewhere in her room. She felt everything from the floor, as she taped around and finally reached the table. She took a few seconds to find the torch in the lowest drawer and she held it in her hand her heart skipped a few beats. She promptly took it and turned it on. As she waved it around her room and gently stood up to go and find her grandmother while knowing that the hooligans were about to enter their house anytime. She rushed through the stairs skipping a few each time and reached her grandmother's room as she opened the door in a hurry.
She walked to the bed and called her grandmother while her touching her shoulder tightly. "Grandma! Grandma, wake up! There are people in the house! Grandma!"
Her grandmother woke up with her heart skipping a few beats. She looked like she just had a nightmare as he stared into her granddaughters' eyes which were filled with fear. She tried to open her eyes which were from sleep and as she saw everything clearly, her mind started to absorb whatever was going on.
"Um.....Are you okay? Did they hurt you?: she asked while checking her granddaughter from head to toe to look for any injuries.
"Yeah! am good.... but they are coming soon....And they are going to hurt you, grandma! Please let's just go and hide!"
"No, am going to talk to them when they come. You call the police."
"NO!! PLEASE NO! GRANDMA, THESE PEOPLE ARE REALLY BAD. I SAW IT, I REALLY DID. THEY HIT YOU AND YOU BLED FROM THE HEAD. PLEASE JUST LISTEN TO ME." Kaylee said as tears started rolling down her eyes and cheeks. Her nose became red as she started biting her lips in order to stop crying.
"Okay, sweetie. What do you want us to do?"
"I'll call the police. you go to the attic and hide after calling am coming to you. Okay? Please don't leave the attic grandma..."
Kaylee lamented as she stood in a hurry and helped her grandmother stand up too as she linked their arms together.
They walked out of the room together as Kaylee's grandmother went to the attic and Kaylee went to see if the phone worked. She took the handset from the landline and dialled 911.
"Hello. How can I help you?"
"Hello. This is 97th street. At 983. We have burglars in our house. Please send help,.... am with my grandmother right now. Please come..." Kaylee said in a hurry as her speech was interrupted by the banging of the front door.
"Hello! Hello. Please stay hidden we are sending help right now. Do not hang up....." said someone from the other end.
Kaylee gently let the handset back to the telephone as her heart shattered into pieces. Her knees felt weak as they shook and wobbled at the ground. Her head was sweating even though it was nearly 18 degrees outside. Her mouth went dry as a desert as she swallowed a huge lump of saliva but it seemed to be stuck in her throat as if she swallowed a piece of cacti.
She slowly moved back and looked across the living room, if she would have walked to the attic she would have been safe but the door was closed. Opening it would make a large sound since the door was nearly fifty years old. She moved to her grandmother room quickly and hid beneath her dressing room as she heard people walking in and banging things. She stayed as quiet as a rabbit as she shivered with her eyes bulging out of their sockets due to the shock she was in. She could hear the goons walking in and utensils being thrown around. They laughed merrily as if they were partying as one of them opened the fridge and took out a jug filled to the brim with orange juice. He sat on the lining room couch with his legs on the coffee table in the middle as he opened his mouth for the juice.
Another guy who was from upstairs rushed down panting and screaming at the top of his lungs, "She's no there. I searched everywhere, she is not upstairs!"
"No. She has to be. Did you check everywhere? She's probably hiding under a bed or something go search more. And you go look in that room for her grandmother. Remember I need them alive."
Kaylee heard the conversations and orders going around as she crossed her heart, waiting, hoping and trusting that her grandmother would not come out of the attic. She wanted the police to barge in but nothing happened.
Suddenly she could footsteps from her grandmother room. They seemed heavy footsteps as one of the goons walked in and said nothing at all. Kaylee's heart thumped as she feared the escalating heart rate would eventually make enough noise for her to be caught. The goon checked under the bed as he threw the bed covers all around and opened the closet as he threw clothes all over the room searching for someone. He took a deep breath and started walking towards the dressing table. He looked curious as he turned his head from side to side trying to figure out where they could have hidden. Kaylee held both her hands tightly to her mouth fearing that noise might come out of it. She could not breathe as tears came from her eyes followed by a rush of nerves all over her body. She was shocked and felt like she could die at any moment.
