"Hey, Kaylee. So you think you can talk now? You can't instigate an accident then try to explain. I mean what is there to even explain. Ohhh Goddd, help us with these freaks" Clare lamented as Kaylee had been on the ground for a substantial amount of time. Her body was neither completely sticking to the ground nor was it straight but somewhere in between.
"I still can't believe it. You are worse than a criminal, at least criminals know when they go wrong...." Sarah added while her hand was at a waist bopping up and down as if dancing to hip hop music.
Kaylee just kept quiet. Apart from being scared, sad, helpless, obsolete, there was literally nothing she could do. So she continued putting up with her oppressors. The intense bullying was only stopped when they heard a teacher walking in. They did not know exactly which teacher it was, but it was enough to scare them.
They walked away in haste leaving Kaylee all alone on the floor. She dusted herself and stood up facing the other direction from the door. She took a deep breath and turned around to get her messed up booked all over the table. Mr Mark was there. No words were said the first few moments as they simply exchanged glances. Mr Mark wore a brown turtle neck with dark blue jeans making him appear like a tourist or a model. He walked closer towards Kaylee and started helping pick up the books that were all over the table. As Kaylee stopped the rude glaring and started helping.
"Kaylee right? I've been trying to meet you ever since I joined the school. I thought it would be nice to get to each other."
"Okay, sir."
"No. not in a weird kinda way. It's just that young people these days, such as yourself would rather join other universities. I have never heard of one saying they wanted to go to DAU...Well apart from you I guess"
"Yes sir," she answered bluntly totally out of words and energy to even engage in actual conversation with her teacher.
"Sorry, am disturbing you aren't I ? Am just gonna go..... But you continue working hard. I just wanted to tell you if you need help settling in DAU am an alumnus. You could always ask me."
"Oh. Okay, sir."
"And don't stress yourself too much" he lamented as he walked away with a lot of charisma and action.
After he left the library, a few people entered as Kaylee sat on her small uncomfortable wooden chair. She sighed heavily and thought about Maya. If only she went to her school, maybe things wouldn't be so bad after all. At least she would have someone to talk to in school, someone who would believe her and understand her position no matter what. The bell rang as people started finding their way out of the classroom and into the fields. The football team had a regional competition with a nearby school and students were obliged to go to watch whether they were interested in it or not. It had been exactly three years since the football team had won anything hence the need for the whole schools' motivation.
Kaylee continued resting on the table despite knowing that the competition was about to begin. After a few moments of her brain being immensely decapitated, she stood up slowly and decide to go to the field. She couldn't afford to get into any more trouble. She stuffed her one-sided black old bag with books and rested it on her shoulder as she walked to the field.
On her way to the field, she came across a certain distinguished man. He looked young, masculine and handsome. His amazing hair was slicked backwards with a lot of gel. He wore a black suit and seemed to be particularly looking at Kaylee as if he knew her. As he passed and brushed through Kaylee's shoulder the two stared at each other closely. It seemed as if they knew each other but Kaylee was certain he did not know the guy. As she passed the guy, she met Ricardo and Rhoda waiting filially for her at the front gate.
"Oh my god, we thought you weren't coming!!!" Rhoda screamed as she hit her jokingly on her arm.
"It's good that you came you know, we were expecting you...." continued Ricardo while fiddling with his backpack. His index fingers touched his bag playfully as his bangs cascaded down his head making him appear a very cute and interesting guy.
His odd-shaped and not aligned brown eyes made him seem a bit more of an introvert than he was.
"Thanks, guys... I really appreciate it, but you should have gone on without me. What if I got you guys in trouble?"
"You just couldn't stop at thank you guys could you?" mumbled Rhoda while mimicking Kaylee's voice.
Ricardo giggled at that all the way to the field as the others were extremely giggly but tried to control themselves. When they arrived at the field they found perfect spots which were in the middle of the audience. The audience was filled to the brim, students from a variety of schools mixed with students from their schools cheering on either side of the teams. The sun was at its peak, everyone could feel their skin burning. People were pouring cold water onto their bodies and the match had not even started yet. The number of sweat people was producing could be smelt as the nastiest place to be at that moment. As the team players came into the field everyone cheered on them unenthusiastically. The talking continued with a higher volume as if no one was interested in the match. The screaming, laughing, playing and selfie-taking just increased as Kaylee watched her teachers aimlessly trying to cool down the enraged crowd. A certain group of students started giving out a bottle of water to people seated in the audience for free.
The team players knelt and said the national anthem and then an unexpected thing occurred. All of the team members from the school and the opposing side started singing. They sang a get well soon song for Justus, While saying his name a couple of times in the song. This was what caught the attention of all the people in the audience. They watched the togetherness of the team members as they dedicated a song to their friend. Those who were taking pictures and videos, those who watched the whole performance sincerely without blinking their eyes and many more others who showed their concerns by simply closing their eyes and listening to the song.
A few minutes after the song, everyone stood from the audience and gave a standing ovation to the teams. Then people started chanting "JUSTUS JUSTUS JUSTUS JUSTUS" Everyone was jumping up and down as the hot sun hit even harder but no one seemed to be minding the situation they were in. After a few seconds of chanting and stomping their feet, a low voice could be heard and the chanting stopped after a few people fainted. Everyone then sat down waiting for the match to begin.
On the green field was a huge screen right above it, it was showing the team members as they ran this way and that way trying to warm up. Suddenly the screen was cut and Kaylee picture was shown on the big screen. Her face with a lot of editing making her look like a witch. Her face was painted green, with a huge mole on her upper lip and a protruding nose with deep sunken eyes. Everyone looked at the screen and started laughing hysterically, cries of laughter could be heard from all around as Kaylee covered her face. She abruptly woke up and left the audience and walked back to the main building. And that was enough of the show for her, she did need to see more. It would hurt her too much. Rhoda and Ricardo followed her as she was dashing, they did not say a single word. They wanted to be quiet just for a moment and let Kaylee do all the talking.
When Kaylee realised they were following she ordered them to go back and watch the whole game before they got into trouble because of her. She walked slowly and gently to the main building and returned to her humble abode, the old lab, and stared at the spiders that were crawling around in jars. She then took her bag, removed the books inside of it and slept on it like a pillow on the fixed table. She wanted to cry but she did not seem to have tears anymore, hence she did not but just kept quiet and left her mind blank for a second.
She missed her grandmother even though it had been less than five hours since they last talked, she really did. She wanted to miss her parents but she couldn't since she had no memory of them. She just rested her head, no sleep or many thoughts, or even specific thoughts, she was just there.
