Dazed, knocked out, astounded, everything seemed to be going too fast. The way it took less than a week for Kaylee's life to change simultaneously and become somewhat of a mystery. Kaylee walked with her one-sided black bag, towards the unknown. Somewhere in her brain, she had decided to go home but her body was taking her elsewhere. She neither seemed to notice or mind the scenery. She slowly dragged her feet as the world around her were all muted. She wanted to concentrate on her thoughts for quite some time. And she did. Her walk continued steadily, she passed the convenience store, the local bridge and the museum her mind still undeterred. She then unseemingly noticing her present walked into the farmers market.
Her eyes staring at the ground, her pupils were dilated, her throat was dry and itchy and she felt like the world was finally coming to an end. She thought about the abilities and the people who had them once more as the inner devil in her tried to suggest she was crazy. Her deeply cluttered mind was suddenly ambushed by a humble pedestrian. It was a man looking like he was in his late thirties. He had a buzz cut and wore a cream turtleneck with a pair of blue jeans. He looked like he was in a hurry as he apologised to Kaylee for the mishap. Kaylee had awoken from her deep slumber but she witnessed another episode. Of the man, she just had a mishap with.
She saw him driving in an expensive blue Mercedes, clean and glittering, not even a speck of dirt could be seen as he was stopping from time to time, helping people on the streets while his heart, so pure and full of love. He gave food to homeless people with a smile on his face and took in street animals and cleaned them. Warmth, contentedness and love are what rushed through Kaylee body after the episode. She felt good, for a moment she had forgotten about her worries and looked at the man with a sincere look. Her eyes stared into the soul of the clumsy man as he was still apologising.
"It's okay...Really..."
"Are you sure? I am... very sorry." the clumsy handsome man said once more.
"Yeah. You can go," muttered Kaylee with a huge smile on her face.
She turned around and looked at a vendor who was watching the whole accident vividly with lemons in his hands. He glared at Kaylee as his mind was wondering why both of them took such a long time apologising to each other. He wore a purple apron and had white gloves on. He had a lot of soot on his face but he did not seem to know. His weirdly shaped eyes and crooked nose matched greatly with his uneven ears. After noticing Kaylee staring back at him he coughed slightly. Then he offered two fresh ripe yellow lemons to Kaylee. No words spoken or actions made just moving of the arms towards Kaylee.
Kaylee shook her head and walked away. A few moments later as she was thinking about the clumsy handsome guy she came across as a kid. He was running around and jumping in puddles with his feet covered in boots up until his knees. He had worn a farmers hat with a toy water gun in his hands. He ran around Kaylee and suddenly his toy gun fell on the muddy ground. Kaylee bent to pick up the toy and she had another episode.
So vivid, so clear. It was like watching a movie but with 3D glasses and emotions. She saw the market she was in but she saw herself standing on the ground as the boy seemed lost. He was crying and seemed in distress. He was pulling people's jacket gently behind their backs while weeping endlessly. He asked if they had seen his mother and continued asking the next persons on different stands. He passed through Kaylee without seeing her.
Kaylee gasped as she thought she had finally turned into a ghost. When it stopped. The episode that seemed a few minutes long was actually just a few seconds since the boy was still waiting for Kaylee to give back the toy at the present time. Kaylee then understood that the boy was eventually going to get lost from his mother while running around. She put her thoughts and emotions aside and walked closer towards the boy.
"Hey, buddy... Is this your toy? It's really cool." Kaylee said while wiping the toy gun with her handkerchief as mud came off.
"Yeah.....It's mine." the sweet little boy replied with a melodious voice.
"Oh, here you go then. Do you know where your mom is?"
"Yeah, she said she was buying mushrooms right there." he turned around and pointed in every direction as his eyes darted from place to place. He then turned towards Kaylee and looked at her with agony. "I think I am lost..... from my mommy....I can't see her anywhere."
"Oh Okay. Um, can you try looking around again?"
The small frail boy with brown hair looked around once more and returned his gaze back to Kaylee with eyes filled to the brim with tears. Kaylee took a deep breath and held the boy's right hand. And she stood waiting and waiting for anyone to notice that their kid is gone.
A few minutes passed and no one seemed to have lost a kid. So Kaylee bent forward and assured the little guy that everything was gonna be okay. Although she was panicking and did not know what to do she kept very calm. A few minutes later she held the boy's hand tightly and took him to the lemon vendor. Kaylee stared at the vendor and she felt that he looked like a hooligan and that she shouldn't trust him, but what choice did she have. She neither had the phone nor the willpower to talk to any other vendor.
She requested a phone call to the police after the boy repeatedly said that he does not remember his mom's phone number amidst tears. About an hour later, the police arrived with a woman who looked like she saw an alien. She looked haggard as if she were in a triathlon of depressed people.
She thanked Kaylee repeatedly along with the lemon vendor who was busy smiling at the good deed he had done. The police took out their notebooks and started taking notes, of what nobody knew exactly but police always seemed to like taking notes. After the whole incident, Kaylee walked straight home. No detours, no mind taking me to places and definitely no adventure. She was tired, her head was paining from all the overthinking. But what could she possibly do it was the only thing she could do regarding her powers, Overthink.
When she arrived home she took a cold bath and threw herself on her bed with her bathing robe still on. She looked at the ceiling for quite some moment before her mind started ruining the 'peace of mind' with responsibilities. She remembered her dinner with Maya and her promise to clean the first floor. She quickly woke up and started cleaning, still in her bathing robe. She finished cleaning the whole house and felt a tingling sensation in her stomach. Then it hit her. She had not eaten anything the whole day. She walked to the kitchen wanting to cook a meal but was hesitant. She had already cleaned the whole house, washed the dishes and even the laundry it would be a very tiring thing for her to cook again. So, she boiled water made ramen noodles and sat in her room eating her delicious meal. She opened the book once more and read it again.
' according to legend, it started as a joke. HUmans telling other humans they could see their future and the past and reading people thoughts. But what they did not know was that it would eventually affect their children. What was once a joke turned into reality as female children were the most underprivileged in ancient times. NO one could do anything as they increased, some say it was a curse, some say witchcraft, some say it was a gift. But one thing everyone agreed on was that none of them was normal.....'
Kaylee continued reading slowly and she did not question anything. She silently was curious about other things but what if there were no answers for those questions? The only one who would know is the one that got the abilities from birth and their ancestors did not take the repressive medicines to stop the abilities. But where exactly would she find someone like that? Probably they ran to another continent like Europe or Africa, she thought endlessly.
After exhausting all possible scenarios she decided to get ready to meet Maya. she wasn't one to dress to impress but this time she just had to take a different approach. Plus Maya did not know Kaylee so she could wear whatever she wanted, it was all about her.
