"Well if not me, then who?", says Rachel mockingly but she continues, "I found an old plate of Chinese food under your couch, like come on Fausto. I don't know how long it was sitting under there but one more day and I'm sure some deformed homunculus would've crawled out of there."
Chuckling Fausto says, "You know, now that you mention it. It has been a while since I had Chinese food." Rachel pulls out a black trash bag from under the sink and throws it to him, "Come on, now you gotta help me with all these beer cans. We can probably sell these cans and you can repay me for helping you clean by treating me to dinner", says Rachel with a loving smile. "But Rachel, I still have to go to the police station", says Fausto. She says chuckling, "I know I was joking with you. I don't really think all these cans can be enough for a meal at a restaurant, its probably enough for a drink though."
Fausto thinks to himself, how can she still care for him and make jokes around him, even after all the pain he has caused her. He starts to remember, "Was she always this cheerful?", but he can't recall. Maybe at the beginning, however, so much time has passed since then that the idea of her being this bright almost seems unreal. Fausto seems to notice something strange about her face, when she smiles, her eyes do not.
"I called your mom, while you were in the shower by the way", says Rachel with concern in her voice. "My mom?! Why would you call her?", nervously questions Fausto. She looks at him with confusion and tells him, "Well... well, she's your mom? And you've been gone for, I mean missing, for 2 months. She cares about you, as a matter of fact, I wouldn't be here unless she told me you went missing."
"My Mom told you?", says Fausto. "Yeah, she thought you left Saint Christopher to come find me at my parents and obviously when she told me you were missing for a couple of weeks, I got scared and I had to come and see what was happening", says Rachel with tears in her eyes but her mood shifts to anger, "We thought something bad had happened to you but it turns out you were just dicking around in the forest for 2 months. So yes, I had to call your mom to tell her that you came back."
Not knowing how to think, Fausto just looks blankly at Rachel. "I'm sorry...", he says softly. Rachel notices that she came off as harsh so she apologizes, "No, I'm sorry. It's just that you were gone for 2 months Fausto, 2 fucking months. I thought something serious had happened to you."
"But why be worried about me, after I broke your heart?", asks Fausto sheepishly. "Because, I'm a good person and I still worry about you, you idiot", somberly says Rachel. "You don't have to worry about me, I've been ok", says Fausto.
"No, no you haven't, Fausto. Look at how you let your house become, on top of that your story.", says Rachel. "My story?", asks Fausto. "Yes, do you hear yourself... Be honest with me Fausto... Are you using?" This angers Fausto, "Am I using?! Am I using? Are you serious Rachel?! What I am telling you is the truth. All that shit that happened in the forest is true, the jeep, the sun, the vines. It's all true!"
"Ok Fausto, it's true. If that what you think happened, then it happened", says Rachel trying to defuse Fausto.
"Do you not believe me?"
"No I believe you."
"I know you don't. Why would you believe a story like that. No one would believe a story like that", says Fausto with frustration. Rachel decides that the more she tries to deny it, the more irritable Fausto will become, "Ok maybe, I don't believe your story entirely but either way, I'm glad you are back home." As she is saying this, a knock is being heard from the front door, this panics Fausto and he says quickly to Rachel, "Tell my mom I'm still in the shower." In a panic as well Rachel tell Fausto, " Don't be stupid, help me with cans first. I don't want your mom to come in to this pig sty, then for sure you will never hear the end of it." It's already too late, Fausto begins to make a run for it to the bathroom. "Fausto where you are going! Bring your ass back here, don't leave me alone with your mom!", yells out Rachel.
