Chapter 18 - Schism

"Paul... are you really going to leave everyone behind? What about your family? Your friends?", asks Fausto on the verge of almost crying. "Don't throw that in my face Faust. You know I care about everyone I know but this kind of thing is not something we should tread lightly. As it is, no one and I mean no one, is going to believe our crazy story. If anything, it's only going to get us in trouble."

"How would it get us in trouble? They were looking for us, for 2 whole months", says Fausto. "Just trust me Faust, now let's get going", commands Paul but Fausto doesn't budge. He defiantly stands still; just staring down Paul without saying a word but not because he had nothing to say, he was so angry by his cowardice that no words were able to come out. Finally, Fausto is able to squeeze out some words from his lips, "I would run away with you but.. but this time it's different. I can't run away."

Paul's expression turns into anger and he tells him, "Fine Fausto. I'll ring you when I get over to the next city." Fausto angrily says back"Fine you better, you asshole." Then they both began to walk in the same direction. Fausto looks at him and say, "Weren't you going the other way?"

"I was! But I need to get something from my house first!", yells Paul angrily while they both walk together.

They both reach a fork in the road, Paul going back home for whatever reason and Fausto heading to the police station. "Are you sure you don't want to go with me?", asks Fausto one more time. Paul sighs and continues walking towards his home. "So is that a no!?", shouts out Fausto as we watches Paul walk away. Even though he knows the answer, he asks one more time because he knows that it's something that would get on Paul's nerves, "So no?!"

Paul raises his hand to wave goodbye and then precedes to flip off Fausto. Fausto chuckles a little but the realization that he is alone in this starts to fill him with anxiety. In the distance he can hear a small bell ringing, he wonders where it is coming from. However, he tries not to dwell on it or rather, he can't because he starts to puke from how nervous he is.

Nevertheless, he cleans his nasty ass up and starts his way to the police station. On his way to the police station a gust of wind blows directly at him, within it, beautiful leaves signifying the end of Winter and the beginning of Spring. The smell of salt being carried by the cold breeze made it seem like the uncomfortable feeling is lifted. Even though he is by himself, he feels his environment lose's it sense of eeriness and himself to grow more relaxed. The strange silence that filled the town began to dissipate to a cacophony of familiar sounds. Then, Fausto runs into an old face.
