Chapter 21 - Insights

Zaiden searched for the target but the backyard bustling didn't put up with his criterion. He dawdled towards the bench and sat to lock his eyes on a potential prey.

'How is this possible for a human to switch blood groups? This is surreal.'

Zaiden cast a look at his calm surroundings, but his inner storm of thoughts was restless.

Curtis didn't talk about his mother with Zaiden yesterday. They both exchanged the information they got as the result of the recent incidents. Zaiden told him about the demon and the dutiful butler warned him about possible consequences.

The demon's presence wasn't a small matter and Zaiden couldn't trust him blindly. He didn't let his guard down since the demon's emergence. But feigning ignorance and negligence both could bring him into a peril.

"How are you so confident about this plan?"

He didn't have any choice other than relying on whatever words the demon would feed him. The Solarian kingdom had already progressed in teaching new arts to vampires.

Relying solely on spells and magic wasn't enough when one's physical strength would be lacking. The demon snorted upon Zaiden's lack of knowledge despite being a vampire prodigy.

{Are you for real, kid? That's how vampires survive and improve their body strength. Well, that definitely doesn't mean the number of killings is proportional to the strength points.}

Zaiden didn't expect those words but they caused a familiar feeling of disgust and hatred within him. The demon disclosed to him the truth which had been lying buried before.

{But once a vampire feeds on other people they can switch it without causing complications. Originally vampires don't have any blood within them, but to mingle with humans they took it as camouflage.}

Zaiden heard all the history about the vampires but the actual truth was hidden. The professors didn't want to present a negative impression of vampires to the young generation. Thus, the truth which might appear as vulnerability and was deemed a hideous secret, was eradicated from the book.

And the skill of switching the bloodline was forbidden, and the art was not practiced anymore. Vampires came to know that to switch the blood groups they could not feed on other vampires.

{That's why you can switch it if you have the secret to the technique. Although drinking human blood to execute this technique will be ineffective. Because a vampire's blood holds chaotic element and darkness on a higher level. Whereas a human's blood is on the baseline, even if you pick a malicious evil human being with a thousand sins.}

"Then how am I supposed to succeed in this?"

Although Zaiden could see the possibility of the nightmare. But he didn't want to admit it and molded his statement.

{Bruh! Because I am with you. Do you underestimate my knowledge, boy?}

"No, I meant it the other way. How is it possible for me to attempt that being a human?"

A horrifying silence accompanied his words. Zaiden suspected that the serum might have turned him into a vampire slowly.

He experienced super strength and other traits decently, which made him derive that theory.

{Are you certain that you know about your parents, kid? I'm positive that I chose you as my host because you have noble vampire blood O negative. And the chaos element in you was unnaturally higher when you were an infant. However somehow I'm unable to sense it now that you have grown up.}

"That's not possible. Are you implying that I'm a vampire?"

Realizing the truth left a bitter taste in his mouth and an unexplainable uneasiness in heart.

{Certainly. Or how else do you think you can switch blood groups? Humans are frail yet complicated, they will die doing it. Although you are part human, part vampire. Now I wonder which will be the heavier side of the coin.}

Zaiden's thoughts about destroying the vampires crashed, along with the image of his parents which roamed in front of his eyes. The boy dashed towards his dormitory to ditch the further classes, and to avoid the inevitable truth.

He encountered the other kids from his class coming out of the building. Miss Samantha had dismissed them and the rest of the classes were cancelled. The professors were urgently called to discuss the message sent by the king of Xandaya.

A boy having red hair and pale complexion approached Zaiden with some papers in his hand. He was short but the determination was visible from his beaming face.

"Here, take these results. The doctor said that your blood was taken as a sample when you were unconscious."

He handed over some papers to Zaiden, who was still traumatised by the truth. Zaiden stared at the boy after taking the papers, he was torn between so many questions.

"I'm Mason, nice to meet you. I read your name on the report, Zaiden. I'm sure we will be in the same batch because of the AB positive blood group."

Zaiden snapped back to reality from his inner storm.

Mason's words confused him since he himself was aware that his blood group was O negative. And he hadn't fed on anyone yet, except the royal guard of Xandaya.

Zaiden's blood group had already switched when he fed on the dead guard back in the forest. It was his first kill and first technique, somehow it made him proud of himself for saving his ass unknowingly.

Zaiden smiled faintly at Mason who waved his hand and went to the other group of kids. Since the classes were dismissed the students decided to explore the academy.

Mason took his leave when Zaiden glanced at the results with mixed emotions.

{Don't you think you owe me an explanation or maybe a story?}
