Bec and his sister, Horette went outside to play together since here in this fantasy world where his whole family was broke…There wasn't much they could do. They went off to the nearby forest to find something to do and decided to play some hide and seek, a game Bec has introduced to her.
"Okay, you're hiding first!"
Horette pointed at Bec quickly and ran off in another direction so she could count. She turned her body towards a tree so she wouldn't be able to see where Bec was going to go.
'Okay then, where to hide?'
He started looking around the forest trying to find a place to hide and found a hollowed out tree that could only be seen through if you climbed on top of it. He jumped inside and pushed his back up to one of the walls and waited.
'Maybe I should have made this easier for her. Then
again she's pretty much 5 so she's fine I think.'
He waited some more and eventually heard someone running through the woods. He listened closer to see if it was Horette but whoever was running by didn't seem to talk at all.
'Could she just be trying to be as quiet as possible?'
He waited a little longer but could still hear what sounded like someone running through the forest and decided to peak out of the tree. He didn't see anyone but could still hear the running and was beginning to wonder what was happening. He listened more closely to see if he could pinpoint where it was coming from but quickly noticed something about the sounds.
'Wait…That doesn't sound like a person running…Please tell me there isn't something in this forest…'
He heard something jump through the trees to his right and began to look around his surrounds extremely fast. After a bit there were no longer any movements and he calmed down a little until he heard something big hit the ground behind him. He was too afraid to turn around and look but then even more thudding sounds kept appearing. He finally built up the courage and turned around to be greeted by 8 giant spiders.
"Ahhhh!"
Bec screamed and ran as fast as he could with his barely one year old legs but kept stumbling since he had such stubby legs.
'Okay noted! This was a really bad idea!'
He could hear them jumping through the trees and running after him. He tried to run faster but was beginning to reach the limit of what his child lungs could do.
'Shit! I'm outta breath…'
He stumbled and fell to the ground. He looked behind him to see the spiders practically on top of him and looked away thinking his fate had been sealed but something unexpected happened instead.
"….Huh?"
He could feel something nudging his body and turned his head to the spiders again to see that they weren't actually being hostile.
"Ummm, is there something you want?"
He stood up and went left to right to see if the spiders would follow him. They followed his every movement and the one in the front rolled over as if it were some kind of dog.
"It does know it's a spider right?"
He walked over and started rubbing its stomach and it appeared to like it very much. He started rubbing even more and then the other spiders started getting closer. He still felt unnerved since of a experience that scared him half to hell in his past life. Spiders had always been one of his biggest fears because of that incident. He started rubbing another one's stomach and now had the spiders lining up waiting to have their stomachs rubbed.
"I guess they really do act like dogs…Strange but I guess I don't know everything in this world yet so maybe this is in the norm?"
After spending some time with the spiders his sister had finally appeared and screamed once she saw the spiders and ran away.
"Wait! They're harmless!"
She wasn't listening to him and continued to run away.
'I hope she doesn't hurt herself.'
He looked up at the sky and realized that it was about to be the time to go back home. He began walking away but the spiders continued to follow him.
"Okay then." He turned around to face the spiders. "You stay here, okay?"
He pointed to the ground and the spiders weren't doing anything so Bec continued to walk home. They appeared to have listened to him and stayed in that spot since by the time he reached the edge of the forest they weren't anywhere in sight.
'That makes life easier.'
He reached his house and walked inside to find his family in a panic. Once they locked eyes on Bec they ran over and hugged him.
"Eh?! W-What's going on?"
"Thank god your all right!"
"M-Mom?"
His dad stood up from Bec and asked him to come with him. Bec followed and waited until his dad was going to talk.
"So you're fine? There's nothing wrong with you is there?"
"No, why are you asking?"
"Horette said she saw you surrounded by Arecheniacs. I guess she was hallucinating them or something since there's no way a one year old could make it out."
"Do these, uh…Uh…Whatever species you just said look like giant spiders?"
"Y-Yeah…Were there actually Arecheniacs with you?"
"I'm that case most likely. They were acting as if they were dogs so I just assumed maybe that's how they normally act."
"Huh?"
Bec's father looked at Bec with strange eyes before finally saying something again.
"They don't normally act like that so if you see them again get the hell out of there. I can't do much if your deep in the forest. There also shouldn't have even been Arecheniacs in there, that's the only reason why I let you and your sister play in there…I guess I'll go report this to the guys at the town walls, be sure to stay out of the forest until this problem is cleared up, okay?"
"I understand."
Bec's father left and headed for the town while Bec walked back into his house and was smothered by his mother for an absurdly long time.
