It was once again the beginning of fall and Bec's mother had just given birth to his new little brother. They were born 12 days apart and Bec was now officially 2 years old. His parents hogged him for a while before letting Bec and Horette see him. Bec held his new baby brother the best he could with his 2 year old arms and thought to himself.
'So this is what I looked like when I first arrived here…I'm finally a big brother again!'
"So what's his name?"
"Crax."
Bec's mother was extremely tired since it was in the middle of the night and this was one of the rare occasions where he was allowed to stay up late. Bec and Horette played with Crax for a bit, or at least what could barely be considered playing, until he fell asleep. Bec himself was also beginning to feel a little tired so he decided to go to bed and everyone else went to their sleeping spots.
Morning arrived and Bec went back to doing his daily training and learning. His mother stayed with Crax the entire day while watching her other two kids play and train. She was smiling softly and was definitely pleased with her life.
'Hm, now that I think about it, isn't it bad to have more kids? I mean we are really poor so I don't get why they'd decide to have a third unless…Nah I don't think they're like that…Maybe we're finally getting a little better with money? I doubt that…'
"What are you doing Bec?"
"Hm? Oh, I'm learning some earth elemental magic."
"I thought you already knew how to use though."
"Nope! I am very much still an amateur! I can barely cast a spell before collapsing out of exhaustion and I don't want that to happen anymore so I have been training day in and day out trying to see if maybe that would help me with compatibility with the spells but it doesn't reappear to be working but I won't give up, not until I master at least one spell without falling to the grou-!"
"Why're you talking so fast?! You're scaring me!"
Horette ran off to their mother and cried while clamping onto her legs. She laughed a little before patting her on the head and lifting her onto her lap. While in her lap Horette played with Crax and calmed down shortly after.
Bec continued trying to cast a spell without exhausting himself but continuously failed over and over again. He rolled over onto his stomach and sighed to himself.
"I think I need to try a different element…I guess earth and water aren't for me…Maybe fire or wind? But I don't know anyone with affinities for them so that makes it hard for me. I wish I could buy things, then I'd be able to buy a book and teach myself…Wait a second!"
Bec ran over to his mother still exhausted from his constant casting and had to keep stopping kid run to avoid throwing up.
"Mom!"
"Yes honey?"
"Do you think there'd be anyone willing to hire a two year old?"
"Ummm…I'm sorry honey but you'll have to wait until your at least six."
Bec pouted and turned to Horette.
'She's six, why doesn't she get a job? Why can't o be six already!!'
He plopped onto the ground and picked up a rock. He began to dig into the dirt and made a drawing, albeit terrible, of Chomusuke, a cat from one of his favorite anime before he died.
"Why do you want a job, Bec?"
"…I wanted to buy a book or something like that…"
"For what?"
"So I could maybe learn magic that resonates with me and won't make me fall over."
"So that's the case."
She smiled softly at Bec and he felt the sadness of not being able to get a job wash away. He rolled over onto his back and looked up at the perfect blue sky.
'I guess it makes sense for employers to not want to hire a 2 year old…'
