Bec was brought back to the ground and everyone clapped. The main performer rummaged through his pocket quickly and pulled out a coin. The currency in this world was called Forma and a single Forma was about the equivalent to 100 yen, at least to his knowledge from the research Bec had performed from a while back.
"Take it, you've been a wonderful volunteer kid."
"Thanks!"
The performer dropped the coin into Bec's hand and began to move down the street to continue with what appeared to be a parade. He waved and the performer waved back. Bec watched the performers leave his view then felt a presence behind him and turned around to find his father making a face of relief.
"You shouldn't run off like that, especially in town."
"Sorry dad…But look!"
He held up his single Forma and his father let out a small laugh before picking Bec up and putting him on his shoulder.
"So, who gave this to you? Was it perchance a fairy?"
"Fairy?! Do those exist?"
"D-Definitely! They sometimes appear and give children money, although it's normally at night not during the day so you must of had an extra special fairy…"
'I see he's trying to not kill his child's innocence…That's understandable so I guess I'll play along.' "Wow! I can't believe it!"
"Haha!"
Bec was grinning widely while his father was laughing hard. After a short walk they reached the rest of their family and Bec was put back onto the ground where he proceeded to ask his great question.
"Am I able to learn magic as well?"
"Hm?"
"I saw performers using magic and stuff like that and I just want to learn it to!"
His parents smiled softly to each other and turned to face Bec.
"Well we cant afford a teacher so I hope that we will do. Your mother is much better then me though."
"Seriously? Yeah!"
Bec did a little fist bump to the air before running to hug his parents.
"Thank you!"
"We haven't done anything yet though…Meh, might as well let this moment soak in."
The next day his magic training began. After a week of trying to focus mana into his hand he managed to get a total of 4 water droplets to fall from his fingertips. Directly afterword he fell over exhausted.
'This takes more work then I thought…And spells only get more complicated the further we go on? Guess my life is going to become a little harder then it already was."
After nearly a month of training he was finally able to perform his first water based spell, he was only able to do this spell once a day but this still meant that he was progressing slowly but surely.
"Oh great water goddess of the sky and sea, I beseech that you heed my will and call. Summon the water from holy grounds and fill this water deprived land with the blue richness that flows between the earth and sky. Now, fill this bucket please!"
That last part was not a necessary component to the casting but Bec did it to sound nicer and he also wanted it to be more personalized.
Alongside learning basic magic he was learning to read, with his parents being poor they barely knew how to read so he had to do a majority of the learning on his own. With the month used for reading he was able to get a total of 10 pages through his book.
"Only 60 more to go…I don't remember reading being this hard. Haha…"
"What was that honey?"
"N-Nothing!" 'Almost let it slip that I could read other things…'
He spent a few more months mastering reading and basic water spells, they still tired him out but he was getting better at using them. In terms of reading he was able to finish the book he had received from his family 6 months prior and was already re-reading it so he could get even better with learning the writing.
"I wonder which is more tiring, going to the well and back or doing one water spell…I don't have experience with the other but I have a feelings that it might be easier…"
Bec was laying on the ground after using 2 water spells and becoming exhausted. He had learned the spells his mother knew so he was now preparing to move onto his father. Every person has some element that they are better with, his mother being Water and his father being Earth. The fact that Bec was struggling with water spells meant that he probably was not a great match for that element so he was hoping that he would be better with earth based magic.
"Let's see what you got!"
His father taught him a basic earth spell and he grew a little tired but it wasn't as bad from when he first learned water magic. He still nearly fell to the ground even though all the spell did was make a small bump which was normally used to trip your enemies.
'Am I like Catarina Claese or something? Being able to summon a bump of dirt?'
After 5 more months of learning new magic and skills he was still getting tired easily from casting spells. He was laying down on the hill that faced the lake and was once again thinking to himself.
"What if I'm not able to resonate with any element? Does that mean I can't cast magic efficiently? Haaaa…"
He felt the breeze go over him and felt nice after finishing his thoughts. He stood up and walked back to his house only for a family meeting to be called. Him and his sister sat in front of their parents and wondered if they had done something wrong.
"I have an announcement to make…I'm pregnant!"
Bec blinked a few times before the thought hit him and yelled out the first thing that came out of his thinking process.
"Does that mean I'm going to be an older brother?!"
"Yes!"
'So I might be able to have a little sister who makes lunch for me again? That would be great…But I also don't want it to feel like I'm replacing Chie…I wonder who she's making lunch for now…Maybe she finally got a boyfriend, I would have liked to meet him…'
Bec smiled at the thought of what his original family may have been doing while he was here in this world but he had a new family, one he held just as close as his first and didn't want to let go of.
"I can't wait!"
