Ivory's POV
"So you're telling me... there is a hidden room under our feet right now?" Reta coed slowly, still not convinced.
"Yeah, just move the couch over" Ian pointed towards our white leather one that stood near the wall of our living room.
"Why would you even move the couch in the first place?" I finally asked the question that had been in my mind since he told me.
"I'm exploring the house" he started "plus my favorite bounce ball rolled under it so I had to take it"
"Okay than" I trailed off, grabbing hold of the right side of the couch "are you going to help me or?..."
"No, I think you got this" I sent Ian a small glare "or we could help"
Ian walked behind the couch where there was a small opening, which he could fit in. Reta grabbed the left side and Ian pushed from the middle while I helped from the right side. It didn't take long for it to move over.
"What if mom comes home?" I questioned, halting in my steps.
"She won't, trust me" he answered as if it were that simple.
"Last time we trusted you, I fell out of the first floor" Reta stared at Ian in disbelief.
"I was young, besides you didn't get hurt"
"I fractured my arm and had to do a surgery on my leg to get the pieces of glass out... I lost a ton of blood" she exclaimed, emphasizing each and every word.
"I caught you though"
"On a tiny pillow that only blocked my butt from hitting the floor"
"At least it blocked something"
"Okay, can we just move on now... I don't wanna get caught" I cut in, knowing they could go on arguing for hours nonstop.
Instead of answering, they both moved away from where they were at and went towards where the couch used to be at, with me following behind. My eyes landed on a small black square shaped piece I wood that laid there. There were no handles so it was hardly blended into the floor "how do you get in?"
"Like this" Ian spoke, answering my question by placing a hand on the black square, making it turn over in a way the upper part was now facing sideways. There square was parted into two but I didn't think we could get in till he took it out with ease.
Looking down I saw there was a long staircase leading down into the depths of darkness. I couldn't see where it stopped considering the stairway had no light to guide where it was ending.
I went to say something but kept it in when I saw Ian pointing his phone down the place, with the flashlight on "go on" Reta gestured towards me to go.
I wanted to protest but at the same time I actually wanted to go first. I mean if Ian went in there alone, why couldn't I go?
Moving my leg over towards the first step, I pulled myself over, grabbing ahold of the sides, gaining my balance. I had acrophobia so the idea climbing all the way down was terrifying considering I could fall any minute.
I didn't want to let that stop me, packing up enough courage I moved my other leg down a step and started my journey climbing down. The only thing letting me see through the darkness was Ian's phone which provided just enough light.
Reta came in after me and Ian followed suit, not closing the upper part so we could climb back out once we were done. After moving down some more steps it still haven't ended as if it were on going. The wanting to stare down and see how many more steps there were was tempting.
It took a while but after one last step, my feet had planted firmly on the ground. It felt like concrete but I wasn't sure. Stepping away, I let the other two climb down as well, standing near the stair case. Curiosity got the best of me, making me look up, only to find the smallest circle showing a ra of light down here, letting me know we were way underground.
Looking back at the light from Ian's phone, I saw him roaming his hands on the wall, trailing his fingers on the concrete "what are you doing?" Reta took the words right out of my mouth as she stared at him, looking as confused as me.
"I'm trying to find the-" he cut himself off by turning a small rock piece attached onto the wall, lighting up the hallway "found it"
"How did you even find this place?"
"A magician never reveals his secre-"
"You tried to find another way out that didn't include the stair case?" Reta cut his words short, earning a light glare from him "why?"
"Cause I didn't want to touch the crusty, musty handles... now come on already" he rushed out the last bit walking down the right side of the dim lighted, narrow hallway.
I don't know why there was a tunnel under our home but once I get a chance to ask my mom, I will. I won't snitch on us but I will ask if she finds out about this, which I'm sure she will considering she knows how to tell liars apart.
"We're here" Ian gestured his hands up, making me look towards the huge room that stood before me. The concrete walls that were supposed to be there were covered with white, marble flat paper, making sure the wall was smooth with no lumps.
There stood a TV length computer scream in front of a key board while the right side wall consisted of a shelf full of a red substance. The floor was covered with a black rug, not showing the concrete. There were several tables with several appliances all around the place.
"Wha-"
"I know that" a faint voice speaking in the distance cut me off.
"Hide, hide, hide" the panicked look on Ian's face told me this wasn't supposed to happen.
