Chapter 9 - Chapter nine

Ivory's POV

"You're not a lab rat, we're just trying to help you live a normal life or would you rather be stuck in that room for the rest of your life?"

"I'd rather not be tested on" I shot at her, not wanting to do all this.

"Look, Ivy, I get it. But, I know somewhere in there, there is a part of you that wants to escape this and the only way to do that is let us cure you"

"Maybe I don't want to be cured" I continued "I don't see anything wrong with me Carla. I'm going to school, living my normal life, with these changes co operating with me"

"But it's still important to know whether you're stable"

"If I wasn't, I wouldn't still be here today"

She waited for a quick second, thinking about another retort before speaking "okay than, what if I told you, it wasn't an explosion in the lab like they said. What if I told you, I knew something that happened that day that no one else does. Pull you let me test on you if I told you it all?"

I could feel both Ian's and Reta's gaze boring into me, waiting for an answer. It took a while but I answered with one simple word "depends"

.................

"What are we doing back here?" Ian spoke staring up at the familiar lab, memories flooding back into both our minds. Reta wasn't there but both Ian and I were. He wasn't near where it happened but I was.

"Come with me" Carla gestured, walking towards the entrance, though non of us went with her, probably having the same thought.

"Isn't that breaking and entering?" Reta said, making her turn back around.

"No, it's not. This place hasn't been used till the incident and your mom bought it"

"Hate to break it to you Carla but I think you have some brain damage because we would know if our mother was rich" Ian placed in.

"No one wanted it and they were giving it out for free, your mom was the first to volunteer" she added "she's not rich but this place does belong to her, not that she uses it"

Instead of saying anything myself, I went ahead and walked towards her. I think she got the point because she moved towards the door, walking in with us following.

The place looked just as I remember it, there were huge windows though they were tinted. The walls were in a navy blue and the light shining in the room made it look better. The wooden type flooring was still the same as we walked in it, creeping slightly. The only difference was the tiny bits of rock scattered around the place with most of the things turned over. Some of the walls consisted of cracks.

The decoration was nice and with a bit of cleaning, this place could look amazing. What surprised me most was when I saw almost all of the equipment still there, some broken but most as it was left.

"Remember this place?" Carla pointed towards the same room that the explosion happened in. I was in the room right next to it "well, remember that"

Moving my gaze, I looked at where she was pointing. Instead of ash marks, there was a long blue crack on the floor.

"No body came in this room when they took yellow imposter out sot why didn't see that but I did. That wasn't an 'explosion'. I've been doing some research"

"What is that than?" Ian asked, cutting in like he usually does.

"You might not know this but let me break it down to the most simplest form I can get. There are seven tectonic plates, right? Normally when there is a movement in it, there would be an alert for earthquakes set out, but this time there wasn't one because it never showed on the charts. After some digging up, I found out it wasn't an earthquake, instead, under each plate there was a blue stone... one which we're standing right on top of right now"

"What?" Reta asked, curious to know, while I tried to process it.

"This wasn't the only thing... in each plate there was the exact same movement, caught at the exact same time as this one. It's not an explosion or an earthquake, but the movement of the stones in each one. You just happened to be at the right place at the right time" she explained, detailing it out enough for us to understand... well some of us.

"So there's a diamond under us?" Ian asked, going over to the blue crack.

Before he could reach in and touch it Carla spoke up "I would touch that if I were you, unless you want to get paralyzed for approximately two years"

That sentence stopped Ian in his tracks, making him turn around and come back to where he stood before "diamond equals no moving for two years, got it" he mumbled softly, still staring at the crack.

"Wait, if it wasn't a blast and it wasn't an earthquake... what was it?" Reta asked Carla, who's seemed to be waiting for that one question.

"I have a theory but I won't be sure unless I test it out" she stared at us as she spoke.

"Why aren't y-"

"I need to run some tests on you to do it" she cut my sentence off, saying the words that had feared me most.
