Ivory's POV
"How does this work, again?" I questioned as Carla set up a bunch of equipment around the chair I was sitting in.
"Well I'm going to run tests on you"
"What kind?" Reta finally asked the question that has been bugging me since the very beginning.
"Taking some blood samples, scans and a bunch of other things which you probably won't understand" I kept quiet, knowing she was the expert around here and not me.
I kept my eyes on her ever move, watching like a hawk as she took out a long needle "don't worry, it won't sting... too much" I didn't say much and just placed my hand out.
"Wait, don't you need to rub something before putting the needle in?" Reta cut in, before Carla could do anything.
"Actually her immune system makes sure she doesn't get infected... that's a bright side of it being heightened" Carla answered, before pushing the needle into my skin. It didn't burn at all, I felt nothing "see... the needle would usually hurt a lot cause it's fat, but for her, her immune system cancels it out"
"So why is it a problem?.. I mean, that just makes her indestructible" Ian pointed out from his seated position on the couch.
"Everything has its own downside and it's important that we find out hers... it may be dangerous"
I wanted to ask why, but I kept my mouth shut, letting her run all the tests on me, without disturbing her, hoping she knew what she was doing.
......
"Where were you?" Moms voice rang through the living room as soon as we walked in through the front door.
"We went out for a walk, had a lot of catching up to do so..." Reta spoke, covering up for us with ease.
"Your curfew ended thirty minutes ago" she crossed her arms over her chest, looking as if she wanted to kill "Ivy, you're already grounded... want me to make it two weeks?"
"Make her down the dishes" Ian cut it.
"Good idea... for the next two weeks, Ian you're doing dishes. Reta, your cooking, and Ivy, you're cleaning the house... bed, NOW" the last part came out more of a yell, making me quick to run up the stairs with the two following behind "don't run" I could hear moms voice someone from downstairs.
..........
"Ivy, wait up" I could hear Ramon say, as he walked up next to me "what happened? You seem off"
"Nothing..." I trailed off, not wanting to talk about what I was stuck spoke for the next two weeks, knowing it would only grand me more misery to even think about it "what's with the hoodie? You never wear those"
"Can't I change up my style a bit?" He asked, acting as if he were offended "besides, it's cold outside"
"It's eighty degrees" I pointed out, remembering what was on the weather report today.
I usually never remember such small things, but I guess there's a first me for everything.
"Well, it's still cold for me" he shrugged "but the way, I wanted to ask you something"
"Okay..." I trailed off, signaling for him to finish his sentence.
"Are you planning on attending the festival tomorrow?" Confusion was as clear as day on my face towards his question.
"What festival?"
He looked slightly taken back, but continued nonetheless "the one we went to every year, before you moved away. The Cookie Monster? Sand castle contest? Water fights? Ring a bell?"
"Ohh" I dragged, the memories finally clicking in "I didn't know it was tomorrow"
"Are you going to go, or..." he said, waiting for my answer.
I waited for a quick second, before replying "I'll think about it"
"That's all I ask" he raised his hands up in a defensive way, before backing up "see you later?"
"Sure"
"What was that about?" I heard Ian say, walking over as soon as Ramon was out of sight.
"Why didn't tell me the Golden Festival was tomorrow?" Ignoring his question, I asked my own.
"I though you knew... you always know"
"Well being stuck in a blank room for years does a lot to your memory" I retorted, knowing I had forgotten more than this one thing about my life.
"Right... are you planning on going?"
"Only if you and Reta come with... can't really go to a public place alone now, can I? After all the place has changed and I barely remember how to get to my own house" I answered, letting the honesty say it all.
"Great, guess I'm going with you" Reta's voice made me jump slightly, not realizing she was there.
"Where did you come from?" Ian asked, looking just as wide eyed as me.
A sinister grin played across her face, as she spoke "I've been here the whole time"
"That's so weird" I pointed out.
"And creepy... you got to stop doing that" Ian added the last part, glaring at Reta.
"What?" It's not like I can help it" she stopped for a quick second, before continuing "well I can, but I won't... anyway, I want you to meet someone"
"Who?" I questioned, seeing as the statement was directed at me.
"A friend" she grabbed my wrist "later, kid" she waved at Ian, before pulling me away.
"I'm not a kid" I could hear his voice yell from behind us, though Reta didn't mind.
"Where are we going?"
"You'll see" she mumbled, taking turns from one hall to another, making me confused considering I dint know my way around that well- yet...
"Who are we meeting?"
"You'll see" she gave the same response once more, making me roll my eyes.
"A hint?"
"No" she replied, before stopping at a door, opening it with a small smile on her face "go on"
"Okay..." I trailed off, walking in as she followed behind me.
The lights were switched off, and the room consisted of no windows so I was unable to make out a single thing in the room.
