Chapter 4 - Chapter four

Ivory's POV

I could feel the light breeze traveling through my hair as I walked down the cold pavement. It was getting windier every second with clouds covering the sky fully, blocking all the sun rays. I don't know why but Ramon told me to meet him in the park we used to go to as kids, which is surprisingly still there.

Walking through the small and now rusty gates, I went into the sort of abandoned park. There was no one there and most of the equipment seemed to be falling apart with some already broken.

The place looked deserted as if it were part of a horror movie scene. Going through some half-dead trees I made my way further into the place. There was no noise considering it was slightly far from where most used roads or houses were located.

I could see Ramon's slightly blurry figure sitting on a wooden bene which had fallen leaves around it "you wanted to talk?" He jumped a bit hearing my voice, he must've been in deep thought.

"Yeah…" I walked over sitting down next to him, moving my gaze over to where he was starting. My eyes landed on the red and green tree house, placed on top of the tree, looking older than it originally was "remember when we built that?"

"Yeah… You just had to use the green"

I could hear a small, almost none audible chuckle "and you just had to use the red"

"Admit it red was better" I turned towards him, waiting for the same thing I've wanted to hear since we painted that thing.

"Red was better… said no one" that last part earned him a light smack on his arm "it's true though"

"Liar" the accusation went out without any sort of reluctance "anyway, what did you want to talk about?"

"I don't really know… I guess I just missed having you around. Why didn't you text or call me?" as the last part came out, he turned towards me as if j were responsible.

"So we're pulling you the victim cards alright, you had my number too" I blamed, sounding confident considering I wasn't the only one that was at fault.

I saw him nod his head gently "did it hurt?" Noticing the confusion on my face he added "the surgery"

"No, hypothesize remember?"

"Right..."

I sat there in silence for a bit before speaking up again "I really don't get how nothing appended to you? You were there when the blast happened"

"I-" he cut himself off "I wonder the same sometimes"

"Guess that's your luck" leaning back, I started up in the gray sky, half freezing "you got to go to school and enjoy while I laid there feeling numb and empty in some blank room for years, half of me going crazy. I couldn't even meet anyone like I was separated from the rest of the world"

I could tell from the look on his face he didn't expect it to be that bad "must've been hard"

"It was… You have no idea how many times I heard the doctors talking about how I couldn't be cured. They would come in and do a hundred tests each day"

"How'd they find the cure?"

Moving my gaze down, I let out almost inaudible "they didn't"

That confused-looking face turned straight into regret "so you're still sick?"

"Yeah, it did something to my immune system, making it stronger in a way to where no medicine worked on me" I started "they eventually gave up using those and made something else. It didn't weaken my immune system but it did help slow down several other things like h blood pressure and heart rate"

"I don't know if asking this is stupid but I'm just curious… If I were to grab a knife and cut you, you'd heal?"

I glanced at him as if he were crazy "I'm not some vampire… It just prevents me from getting infected and the medicines from working"

"So you wouldn't heal and it would scar?"

"It would heal a lot quicker than normal and no it wouldn't scar" I imprinted some of the knowledge I had been able to grab from before.

The day I was brought to that facility I would constantly slam my hands on the door, trying to get out. It would leave several cuts which would heal at an abnormal pace.

"So technically you would heal if I were to cut you?"

"Are you planning on killing me or something?" I accused, receiving an are-you-serious look from him.

"I'm a human, can't I be curious?" he mimicked my tone.

"Why the sudden show of interest anyway? You never wanted to talk about this so we kept our distance before I went off… Something about not talking till I'm back to normal or something?"

He waited a while, seeming to be in thought "bruh… I was thirteen and it was scary, you would've done the same"

"I know, so was Ian. 'The girl that survived an explosion with inhuman abilities' it was on the news for days. I don't even know why they brought us to that lab if they knew it was dangerous"

It was true, we had several warnings not to go but the school wanted to take us. They said something about wanting to teach us about the science department of work and how things went on. That's where it happened.

Some lunatic they had been testing on set a still unknown, incomplete project off. It didn't take long for it to blow while I was in the room next to it, trying to find the toilet but ending up lost. The rest were downstairs.

Sometimes I wish I didn't even go on that trip. It made several different problems we didn't even know where there, arose.

Days turned into months which turned into year's. I kept questioning whether I'd ever get out of there. They came up with some medicine they call 'jetropsatite' which cured me halfway. They're still working on something to make me normal instead of the minimum, till then I can roam around like this.

No one knew I was the girl in that explosion because my parents made sure to cover all the tracks and not talk about it. I hate to even think about the time I spent locked away from the world.
