Chapter 3 - Chapter three

Ivory's POV

"Stop fidgeting so much Ian" I groaned, pushing him away using my right arm, getting irked at the fact he kept shifting for no specific reason.

"I can't help it, Reta go back to the floor… there's no more room here" Ian shoved her lightly.

Taking the remote she paused the movie, turning towards us, seeming to be slightly mad "girls get the privilege of the couch"

"And they say equality matters" Ian rolled his eyes when I nodded my head, agreeing with Reta "I hate you"

"I know" both me and Reta had spoken up at the same time, creeping Ian out considering the way he looked at us.

"So continue?" Reta pulled the remote out ready to play it but Ian stopped her.

"No… can we watch something else?" He asked, sitting down on the ground, getting comfortable.

"Your kidding me right? You picked this one" I exclaimed, already knowing that he wouldn't hesitate to keep on changing the movie.

"Yeah but that's before I found out it was a horror" his tone made it sound as if it were the most obvious thing.

Reta waited for a quick second before bursting out "It's annabel, of course it's scary"

"Okay, chill" he raised his hands in a defensive tone, turning back around "we're still changing it though right?"

"No" Reta practically yelled this time, quieting Ian up for a while I assume.

.........

"Are you guys serious right now? Get up, you're already late" was the first greeting I got as I opened my eyes, which were quick to land on my mom, who seemed to be fuming with anger.

I could see Reta wasn't on the couch while Ian was still fast asleep "wake your brother up" I didn't get a chance to reply considering she was fast to walk out, not sparing me another glance.

"Ian was up" my voice came out slightly cracked, half of me still fast asleep while the other was just barely awake "Ian... We're late for school"

"I'm sick" he murdered, turning over on his side so I wasn't able to see him.

I don't know how but he managed to spend the night on the floor with just a blanket while I fell asleep in the middle of the movie, not getting a chance to see what happens next.

Getting up from the couch, I made my way into the kitchen where both mom and Reta were in the kitchen, preparing breakfast "mom… Ian says he's sick and it's courageous so I'm staying home today"

"I see you've lost your touch" she replied, placing the plate down on the countertop, moving her eyes to land on me "normally you'd make amazing excuses but this one just isn't working"

"Well... I didn't really try" I shrugged "Reta, can you wake Ian up, thanks"

Just like mom, I walked out before she had a chance to protest, knowing for a fact if he didn't want to wake up, he wouldn't. Only mom would have the power to get him up.

......…..

Walking out of the bathroom and into my room, I grabbed a pair of black jeans and a dark blue shirt that had spelled out 'the two most important days of your life are the day you're born and the day you find out why' in white cursive.

I decided to do a small side brain, knowing I had to run at least a mile with the new, strict coach. As usual, I just placed on a light amount of lipstick and left my room, not wanting to look like forty pounds of makeup.

"Ivy, hurry up" I heard my mom yelling from the star case as I walked down, making sure to grab my one ok the way out "finally, come on" she gestured as I followed after her, out of the house which she did lock. We walked over to mom's car instead of Reta's "her cars getting painted today so I'll be driving you guys to school"

I didn't say anything for a while, thinking that she had already answered my unspoken question. Instead of going for the front seat, I settled on the back one next to Ian "I see you're finally awake" I closed the door after getting in.

"Yeah well, you can't expect someone to sleep through a bucket full of cold water being yeeted on them" he rolled his eyes at me, something he seemed to do a lot "anyway, I wanted to ask you something"

"Alright..." I trailed off, letting him continue from there.

"Are you going to speak to Ramon?"

I had a small mental debate on that one question for a minute or two before replying "I guess… I don't really know though"

"Just don't waste too much of your energy on him, okay?"

"Yeah, why are you worrying so much about Ramon?" I directed the question straight at him and he, himself seemed to be pondering on the question as well.

"Why did you not tell Reta that brownie mix was actually hers?" he played at the same game so I couldn't say anything back. Luckily we weren't really talking too loud and Reta was already blasting music at the highest volume.

......…..

"Hey Ivy" I heard an all too familiar voice speak as I closed my locker shut after getting my books out.

Turning towards the source I was met with a pair of big emerald eyes that were shining as bright as day "hi"

"Can we talk?"

"I don't know can we?" He stayed silent, probably not understanding what to say to that "I'm just messing with you"

"Good to know... Come on" he went to pull me away but I refrained myself from being dragged, instead I kept my ground, standing there without moving.

"After class" I added the last part, spotting how he seemed genuinely confused "okay?"

"Alright but you better not ditch me" he didn't seem as annoyed or mad as yesterday, instead, he seemed more playful.

"I won't"

...….........…..

"What do you mean you're just going to talk to him?" Ian said the last part on a high pitched tone, wanting to sound girly but failing miserably at it.

"I don't know, okay…" I mumbled, fiddling with my hands that laid on my lap as I sat near our lunch table.

"Who knows? Maybe he wants to apologize, I mean you are his best friend after all" Reta cut in, placing yet another fry in her mouth.

I gave her a questionable look before starting "we haven't talked in years… so technically I don't think we'd be besties after that" I emphasized the besties part.

"Who knows you might still be the closest to him. I haven't seen him around with anyone except himself" she continued "he seems pretty lonely and lost without you"

"Right" the sarcasm lacing my tone was clearly visible.

"You know what… let's move on to another topic, how did your soccer practice go?" She referred to the question mostly towards Ian than me.

"Good, a few bruises but good… Why?"

I want her, slightly curious as Reta seemed to be holding in a laugh "cause I saw you getting pretty beaten up out there with the other new student"

"You saw that?" he looked as if he seen a ghost while I looked at them as if I was getting free entertainment.

"Oh don't worry, I'm your sister remember. If I see you getting hurt I wouldn't just stand there and watch. That's not my job" I could tell from her tone that she had something up her sleeve "my job is to embarrass you so I caught it all on camera… Your welcome"

"Shut up"

"Sorry but I only speak fact little brother" she continued on "and I'm speaking a cold, hard, true fact that can be verified even considering I have evidence"

I saw Ian hesitating, not wanting to know what she was up to but me being me I asked her instead "what's the fact?"

"I uploaded it on YouTube with over, let's say five thousand views that are still growing like wildfire" she grinned almost evilly.

"Greta" the amusement was clear on my face when Ian burst out "no wonder people were laughing at me today"

"Hey respect your elders Ian Hale" Reta scolded, fascination me further than anything else.
