Terre wanted us to go to the next kingdom as soon as possible but me and Luna didn't want to go until the boy woke up.
"I don't want to be here for more time than we need to. The guards have almost caught us more than a few times and I don't exactly want to spend another day without a weapon" he said
"We're not leaving until that little boy wakes up" Luna said
He sighed. "We don't know when that will be. It could be tomorrow or it could be a few weeks. We don't have time"
He looked at me as if I'd agree with him.
I shook my head "Nope. We wait"
He threw his hands up and went back on lookout duty.
I looked over at brownie (whose actual name is Rocheux) who was making food.
"I know that he's worried about the guards and all but is it really that serious?" I asked
"It's not about the guards. It's about him feeling lonely without his weapon" he said
"Lonely?" I asked
"He's been through hell and back but the only thing that kept him sane through all that was his scythe"
"How come?" Cielo asked as he snuck in a small bite from the soup Roca was making.
Rocheux smacked his hand away and replied "I shouldn't tell you. It's not my place. But hopefully one day he'll trust you guys enough to tell you himself"
I hummed and set the table ready.
We had been here for about almost a week. In that time, we'd gone out for weapons and supplies for the trip to the next kingdom.
After Terra came back, we gathered around the table and started eating.
"How long until we reach the next kingdom?" I asked
"From now? A decade" he replied
"Haha."
"Maybe two weeks if you go with a few breaks. Also, these aren't kingdoms. They're just small towns. The one we're at right now is called Sud. The one we're going to is called Recht" Rocheux said
"Sud? Like the word South in French?" I asked "And Recht like the word right in German?"
Everyone stared at me with questioning eyes
"I have no idea what your talking about" Terra said
Everyone agreed
"Oh…" I said "I don't think I do either now that I think about it"
"Weirdo" Cielo said
"Guys!" Galet, Roca's twin brother, came rushing from the other room yelling.
"The boy woke up" he said
Luna and I rushed into the next room and saw the little boy sitting up and drinking some water.
The boy looked up, saw us, and started crying.
Cielo came in after us "Now you've done it. You made the poor thing cry"
"We didn't do anything!" Luna cried
"Everyone out!" Galet yelled at us and ushered us out of the room. "He still needs to eat and rest"
Now that we were outside. I realized that I had tears running down my face. I looked over at Luna and she too had tears. Was it something in our eyes?
I looked over at Cielo who's eyes were drier than a desert.
He looked over at us and said "Woah! What the hell?I didn't think you guys would start crying! It was just a joke!"
I wipped away the tears "Stupid! We're not crying! It's just the dust in the air!"
We spent the rest of the day preparing for our journey tomorrow. Now that the boy is awake and seems to be doing well, Terra wanted us on our way.
Tomorrow came and we started to set out when the little boy came running out.
"Hey! Wait! You might get sick again!" Galet yelled out as he chased after the boy.
The boy ran up to me and pulled on my pant leg. He stared up at me as if I'd know exactly what he wanted. Unfortunately, I think I do.
"He wants to come with us" I said
"And how would you know that, child whisperer?" Cielo asked
I shrugged "Dunno"
"Either way, he can't. If we get caught, I'm not sure what these people will do to him" Terra said
I looked down and patted his head "Sorry bud. He's right. It's too dangerous"
The boys eyes swelled up with tears and let go of my pants. He turned to look over at Luna. She turned her head faster than I could blink.
"D-don't look at me. I won't bring you along either" she said
Cielo kneeled down in front of the boy and said "Why don't you stay here. Hmm? I'm sure they can help you find your mommy and daddy."
The boy shook his head and pointed at the sky. Then, pointed at us.
"Kid. I don't know what your trying to say" Cielo said
I didn't know either.
I looked over at the brothers, "Is it alright if he stays with you guys until we come back?"
"Of course! We'll take care of him" Galet said
I kneeled down "Don't worry, they'll take care of you"
Luna kneeled down next to me "We'll be back soon. I promise"
The boy looked between the two of us and nodded. He backed up towards the brothers.
The rest of us gathered our things and headed off. I turned back towards the boy who still stared at us and waved. He waved back.
This isn't a goodbye. It's a see you later.
