Tetsuo Naru's POV

"Loner."

"Freak."

"Jerk."

"Weirdo."

"Trash."

"Useless piece of garbage."

"You should just go die somewhere."

"Why are you alive anyway?"

Voices in my head kept on echoing as I float in this dark abyss of a place. I just recently hanged myself, committed suicide because I wanted to escape the voices in my head, I wanted to have peace, but it turns out that even committing suicide, I cannot run away from the voices that kept ringing inside my head. I just want to be at peace for once.

"You're a bit early, don't you think?" From the echoes that kept on repeating in my head, a voice stood out from them. It wasn't an echo, it was a voice as if someone in front of me said it. "Dark isn't it? Try opening your eyes, that ought to help you see clearly." The voice added, it was a deep yet comforting voice.

Opening my eyes? What does this guy mean?

I did what I was told and started slowly opening my eyes. I was welcomed by the sight of very thick pink clouds. "Where am I?" I asked as I looked around, taking in the view I am seeing.

"You're not in the good place, I can tell you that. And you're not in the bad place either so you don't need to worry about that." I looked around some more, taking in the aesthetic feel of the pink clouds all round me and there I saw a man in black suit with white hair, making what appears to be tea of some kind. "Care for a cup of tea, Tetsuo?"

"You know me?" I gasp, still trying to take in what's happening.

"Well of course, your the guy who committed suicide a few minutes ago."

"Who are you?"

"Well, to keep it simple, I'm the guy everyone mistakes to as the guy who takes away lives, my name is Death." The man in black suit named Death answered as he took a sip of the tea he made, leaning against the table.

"Death?"

"At your service."

"Have you come to take away my life?"

"Weren't you listening to what I just said? I don't take away lives. Ugh, humans, always assuming that I'm responsible for the deaths of people. It makes me sick."

"If you don't take away lives, then what am I doing here? Why am I still breathing and talking? I ended my life a few minutes ago and yet I still hear voices in my head!"

"You really think that ending your life solves your problems? Wrong, what is wrong with people? Thinking that ending their lives will solve all of their problems? Ungrateful beings I tell you, wasting the gift of life given to them."

"That didn't answer my question, why am I here?"

"You are here because you ended your life too soon. As I said earlier when you still had your eyes closed, you're too early to be dead. Your clock still has a long way to go, 64 years to be exact. You won't die until you turn 87." Death took a sip on his cup of tea as he started flipping through an old book on top of the table. "Being you're too early for me to pick up, I'm sending you back to the living realm."

"What if I don't want to go back? And why don't you just take away my life!? You're Death aren't you!? End my miserable excuse for a life! I don't want to live anym---"

I stopped yelling as Death closed the book, he closed the book with so much force that it made a loud noise. "What did I just say? I don't take away lives. That is not how I work. People are given time limits to their lives, whether they like it or not, they have to live until the battery on their clock runs dry. Sure, there are those other people who have ended their lives and I am afraid that that's the moment their batteries run dry and that is the moment I pick them up. I don't end people's lives, I just pick them up and guide them to the other side. And as for you, I can't guide you to the other side yet because it is not your time yet, your clock still has a long way to go. So I'm sending you back to the living realm wether you like it or not."

"Then what?"

"Hmm?"

"What am I supposed to do when you send me back? There's nothing left for me to do anyway, my parents are gone, I have no friends, and I am nothing but dead weight to everyone who helps me! I have no more purpose so what's there left to live!?"

"Everything has a purpose, that's why clocks are for. Until time runs out, you have a purpose to fulfill, you always have a purpose, that is why people are born, they have a purpose to fulfill." Death answered as he opened the book on the table once again, flipping through the pages.

There's something about what he said that hit me, the part about having purpose. I stayed quiet, Reflecting about why I am alive, thinking what is my purpose in this world.

"What if I don't like what my purpose is? What then?"

"If you don't like your purpose then I have nothing to do about it. We were all given a purpose, we don't choose them. Our purpose are given to us because we are the only ones who can perform them and no one else." Death stopped flipping through the pages of the book and there I saw weird symbols that started glowing. "Look, I know that you already given up on life and I sense that you have already lost hope and that you want to end it all, but there's really nothing I can do about your purpose in life. But I'll tell you what, let's have a little agreement."

"Agreement?"

"Yes, a little small agreement. I will tell you one of your purpose in life and if you succeed in doing it, I'll let you end your life, I won't interfere, but if you fail then you have to live the rest of your miserable life until your clock runs out of batteries. What do you say? Do we have a deal?"

"My purpose in life? If I succeed then I get to end it all?"

"Yes, but if you fail then you'll live until your clock stops. Do you agree?"

I took a minute to think about the agreement Death offered me. Telling me what my purpose is and to succeed means I get to end it all. I took a while and hard thinking, but I finally came to a conclusion. "Yes, I agree!"

"Good, then I'll see you when you finished your purpose." Death stated as he started chanting words I don't understand, his eyes glowing green and the book's pages started flipping wildly. "Return to the living and do your bidding!"

"Wait! What's my purpose!?"

I didn't get an answer from Death and a blinding light started surrounding my vision, I couldn't see anything. It was bright then it was dark.
