Mo Xin Er looked out through the window, her eyes fixated on the tall buildings the car passed by. She thought back to what happened at the penthouse she had left.
'Is he always being spied on that way?' she wondered. She knew someone of his caliber would likely be in constant danger but she hadn't expected that paparazzi would also be on his trail. He probably even didn't know that someone took his pictures. But wasn't he supposed to have bodyguards? Maybe shadow guards. Otherwise, wouldn't he be much more prone to danger without one? He didn't even know martial arts. She deducted that if the did, he should have been able to sense the third party.
But what she was worried about the most, was the pictures. She was also captured in those pictures. Anyway, since she probably wouldn't even find the culprit anywhere, she would take it slow and see if anything will happen in the coming days. She sighed and leaned back with her eyes closed.
When she walked back into the apartment, she had been expecting Fan Liuying to probably be one of the sofas excitedly doing something. She did see her on the sofa, but, the somber look on her face was unexpected.
Mo Xin Er made her way towards her and took a seat beside her, pulling off her sneakers. She called out worriedly, "Liuying."
"Xin Er," Fan Liuying replied unenthusiastically. She turned to look at Mo Xin Er in the face, a fake smile on her lips. "You are back."
"Yeah. I'm back. Are you okay?'
Fan Liuying nodded with a goofy smile. "I'm okay."
Mo Xin Er looked at her with an adamant gaze. Okay? Did she think she was blind?
Mo Xin Er rebuked, "No, you are not. Tell me. What's wrong?"
She wasn't sure if the words had come off too strong but the next moment, tears came streaming down Fan Liuying's face. Her eyes widened as she hurried over to Fan Liuying's side. Mo Xin Er had no idea what she had said that ticked the other girl off.
Fan Liuying was a weeping mess and she began to stutter, "Xin Er… he.. he broke… up with me. Why would he do that?"
Shock washed over Mo Xin Er's face as she looked at the crying girl. She suddenly felt sorry for her. But she found the whole situation quite absurd. Weren't they very close? She could still remember vividly how they kept flirting in the middle of the night two days before. She badly wanted to know why.
But she asked instead, "Should I get you a cup of coffee?" She watched as Fan Liuying nodded slowly before getting up and made her way towards the kitchen.
When she returned, a cup of coffee was in her hand which she handed to Fan Liuying. She had barely sat down, when she heard Fan Liuying say, "He is going with her on a vacation."
Mo Xin Er gasped, "Huh? Who?"
"Yu Ran."
Mo Xin Er nodded with understanding as she pulled her into a hug. Fan Liuying's shoulders were still trembling, giving her the confirmation that she was still crying. She could hear her mumble, "He said I was always too jealous. That I never gave him freedom. That I never allowed him to be around other girls. How could he say that?"
Mo Xin Er replied softly, "Liuying–"
But Fan Liuy cut her off. "All I wanted was a date with him but I returned home with a broken heart instead." She laughed, withdrawing from the hug and Mo Xin Er sighed – she had never seen her so sad.
Mo Xin Er asked, "What vacation is that? We are still on resumption."
"He can go anywhere he wishes to, Xin Er. As long as he says it."
"But did he tell you why he is going with her?" Mo Xin Er probed. "There ought to be a reason, right?"
"He said he met her at his family dinner yesterday and she had managed to convince his mother to let her come along with her cousin. And she agreed. "Fan Liuying smiled bitterly as she shook her head. "He said he had no choice but to agree. But now, that I see things clearly, who can force him to do something he doesn't want?"
Mo Xin Er nodded in unison. Who can force him to go on a trip with someone he didn't want to be with? But she still felt something was wrong. So she took a guess and face Fan Liuying. "So, you told him that you wanted to go with him but he didn't agree."
"Yes. According to him, he had promised his mother that he wouldn't take me along on the trip. So, I got angry and told him to quit the trip. Well, he flipped and become someone I totally don't recognize. He was so cold. And before I could even figure what had happened, he told me he wanted a breakup and stalked off. I've been calling him all this while, Xin Er. He blocked me."
"I'm so sorry, Liuying," Mo Xin Er whispered as she held her hand.
"I guess it was my fault. I should have just let it be. I should have let them go together, right? I didn't have enough patience. If only, I –"
Mo Xin Er cut her off, her voice cold, "It wasn't your fault. It was his for not understanding your feelings."
"But I have lost him. What I've bee worried about the most finally came through. I knew it was only a matter of time before we broke up. He was too good for me after all."
"We both know it wasn't your fault. You might have been possessive but you had every right to be. What he was trying to do was completely wrong. He can't eat his cake and have it. If he wanted you, he should have chosen you above everything else. Liuying, you shouldn't blame yourself that you two didn't work out. You loved him too much but he probably didn't love you as much. It's just as simple as that. "
Fan Liuying seemed to understand her words, for she nodded in understanding before standing up. "I understand. He doesn't love me . I should take a bath. I don't think I look any good."
Mo Xin Er smiled and nodded as she watched her walk into her room and shut the door. She sighed – she had completely forgotten about Su Cha.
