She got up from the sofa, grabbing her backpack and walked to her bedroom. Her phone rang at the very moment, making her stall at the door. She glanced at the caller ID before accepting the call and placed the phone beside her ear.
"Yuan."
"Hey, Xin Er." Mo Yuan's voice rang through the phone as she settled in her bed, the other hand fishing out her laptop.
"Is something wrong?"
He hesitated, "No. Not exactly wrong."
"Tell me," Mo Xin Er demanded.
"It seems someone took a video of you that day at my faculty." Mo Yuan replied with a sigh. "It's all viral on all the school platforms. I think you might end up being called to the disciplinary office for fighting."
She stilled. All she wanted was a peaceful school life. How come she even got involved with the disciplinary office? So tiring.
She finally replied grimly, "Okay. I get it."
"Alright. I'll talk to you later. By the way, do you want to come along to Walter de Lau tonight?"
"What?" Mo Xin Er murmured without a clue. "Where is that?"
Mo Yuan replied with an unsure voice, "It's a frat house. You don't have to come if you don't want to. It's always pretty crowded, after all."
Mo Xin Er shook her head as she scrolled over the laptop mouse. Frat house? She wasn't the least interested in places where her eardrums might get damaged. She would rather sleep on such a comfortable bed, eat some good food or play video games.
When she realized she had got lost in thought, she quickly said into the phone speaker, "Nah. Not interested."
He chuckled, "I knew it. Okay. Talk to you later."
She dropped the phone beside her and returned her attention back to the screen. Her smile faltered slightly and her gaze turned colder as she grabbed her phone again. She clicked on a tab and but on her bluetooth earphones.
Soon enough, she called out, "Hey, Anne."
A vibrant voice rang out almost immediately and it seemed to make the cold glint in Mo Xin Er's eyes diminish. "Phantom. Did you get my email?"
"Yeah. I just saw it." Mo Xin Er replied as she returned her focus to the interface. "Is this true?"
Anne groaned from the other side of the receiver, "Damn you, Justin. I swear I'm gonna make sure I milk you dry tonight." Mo Xin Er couldn't help but chuckle lightly at her words. She had always known her friend was very simpleminded. Probably, it was one of the reasons they seemed to click. But to think of it, she seemed to be clicking with all sorts of people these days.
With a light tone, Mo Xin Er asked, "Is Justin there?" But what answered her was a soft moan. She heard Anne gasp in the background and immediately blushed. She couldn't believe she would hear such a thing. Though, she should have expected it. "Should I call back, Anne?"
"Oh, no.. No. Justin, …" she heard before an hoarse voice took over. It seemed Justin had snatched the phone from her.
Justin grinned, "Hey, Xin Er. Could you make the conversation a little bit fast. I can't rush you otherwise your little friend here will skin me alive."
"Okay, sure," she laughed and she could hear a slight shuffle of sheets before Anne's voice came afterwards.
"It's true, Xin Er. I personally did my own background check. How is the girl related to you?"
Mo Xin Er leaned back disinterestedly. "Not me. It's Mo Yuan."
"Phenom? How is he related to her?"
"Thank you, Anne. I appreciate it," Mo Xin Er replied instead, in an attempt to change the topic.
Anne laughed over the phone, catching the hint and grumbled, "No way. I want red packet."
"Okay. I'll send to you," Mo Xin Er replied with a smile and she could almost picture Anne's face beaming with excitement.
She giggled, "I love you, baby Xin. How about we get married. I promise I'll take care of you."
"Really? I'm afraid you can't handle my expenses."
Anne murmured, her tone hurt. "My heart is broken. I'll go get eat some ice-cream."
Mo Xin Er smiled after the call got disconnected and continued reading. She had always known that Su Cha's problem was not so simple but she hadn't been expecting such a turnout of events.
According to Anne's investigation, it had all began three years back since Su Cha was still a minor. Mo Xin Er looked at the pictures she was sent and suddenly felt sick to the guts. How coldblooded were these people? They even had the guts to do such a cruel thing to a minor.
But what she was the most concerned about was the reason she didn't look for help. Why she didn't try reporting them. She scrolled down and soon found what she wanted. The cold glint in her eyes resurfaced and the frown on her lips deepened more. They even murdered her cousin. She didn't try to seek for help for fear that they would retaliate on her family. Heh.. they have even kidnapped her parents once?
Mo Xin Er leaned back and suddenly felt an headache coming. She felt deep pity for her. As she faced the screen, a new sense of determination washed over her. Regardless of whether her brother liked the poor girl or not, she was determined to help her.
She placed the laptop on the bedside table, her eyes wandering towards the door. She… seemed to have heard a knock? Gently placing her feet on the cold floor as she slipped on a pair of comfy home wear slippers, she made her way out of the room. She closed the door behind her before turning towards the direction of Fan Liuying's room when she heard a click.
It seemed the other girl also heard the knock and came out to check. They both glanced in the direction of the main door simultaneously and Mo Xin Er gave her a look to stay inside.
Mo Xin Er, then, made her way to the door before turning the door knob and opened the door. Fan Liuying who was standing in the middle of the living room seemed curious when she saw the cold expression that took over her face after she saw whoever was at the other side of the door.
She vaguely heard Mo Xin Er say, "Yu Ran?"
