Chapter 8 - She loved this life!!

Fan Liuying said regardless, "It's name is Shimmer"

"Shimmer. Okay, thanks by the way."

"You're welcome. What course are you offering?" Fan Liuying suddenly asked, turning to glance at her.

Mo Xin Er's finger which was operating her phone paused for a moment. "Mass communications."

"Oh. You're in arts"

"Yeah."

"Lu Yichen is an arts student too. I bet, you too will be meeting quite a lot," Fan Liuying replied as she continued to drive.

"Who?" Mo Xin Er asked oblivious.

"Lu Yichen. It seems you guys didn't talk the other time. He is Su Jing's friend," Fan Liuying replied and Mo Xin Er's mind finally darted towards the guy who sat down beside Fan Liuying's boyfriend.

She muttered disinterestedly, "Oh, I see."

She didn't think much about the person. Nor did she expect them to be meeting a lot of times. But she remembered he was quite handsome.

"I study Veterinary Medicine," Fan Liuying suddenly said.

"Oh, you're in the sciences." She remembered her brother was also in the sciences. Fan Liuying could be of help if she ever wanted to go look for the trouble maker anyway.

"Su Jing is in sciences too. He always seem to follow me wherever I go," Fan Liuying muttered excitedly and Mo Xin Er turned to look at her, unsure of what to feel or say towards the other girl. She found her to be jovial and eager to make friends. Fan Liuying turned towards her, her eyes evident that she suddenly remembered something. "Ah by the way, you've missed about two weeks of class. Is something wrong?"

"No. My mom didn't want us to leave her." Mo Xin Er remembered how much of a tantrum her mother made the day they received their admission letters. Unconsciously, she smiled.

They had been together for less than two years but she had grown attached to them as the were to her. She found that she was about to forge familial love with them. She learned that bonds weren't made out of blood. It was the desire to love and protect one another that forged unbreakable bonds.

Two years ago, she was on the streets. An eighteen year old looking for a job. She never forgot her will to avenge her mother. She had always found her death absurd. Her mother wasn't an hooligan. Why would a group of gang come knocking on her door and wiped her cold? She had always wanted to find out and that desire didn't change a bit.

A few weeks when she began to train, she would cry while using a punching bag. Then at some point she wouldn't be able to control the urge to kill. She would let the will to revenge take control of her. Until her instructor, Scot finally noticed. He would beat her up making sure she would never be able to stand. He would say in her ears to never let revenge take control of her. She would get hit but still get up again. It was a sort of psychological punishment but she knew it worked well. One would think it was cruel but she knew well enough, that he was able to pull her back from her killing spree whenever it happened.

She was very grateful to him for that. Mo Xin Er sighed as she looked out of the window, the evening breeze splashing the windows and giving her a sense of peace. She was contented with this life. She had a family. One who loved her dearly. She had friends who cared about her. There was Zach, Annie, Su Ye. She had students she had impacted her knowledge into. She loved this life.

A sudden bump as they pulled into the driveway jolted her out of her thoughts. She didn't realize that they reached school. They got out of the car and saw that a red Maserati bumped into the car's bumper. At first, she thought it was a slight scratch. Her room mate thought so too until she turned on her phone's flashlight and flashed it towards the car's bumper. It was heavily scratched and totally disfigured the car's bumper.

Fan Liuying looked really pissed as she made her way to the car. The owner didn't seem to have the decency to come out, after all. She knocked impatiently on the car's window but when no one answered, she kicked the car door. Unexpectedly, it jerked open.

But what met their eyes was a total tragic scene. A man was slumped on the driver's seat, his head bumped into the stirring wheel. There was a hole in his shoulder blade and blood gushed out of it in huge quantities.

The two girls stood in front of the car, shell-shocked. Fan Liuying's fingers which was holding onto the door handle shook. She began to shake. Although Mo Xin Er was much composed, she was very shocked.

His phone which was still powered on and a voice that kept calling and shouting his name jolted them out of their reverie. Mo Xin Er looked around. It was dark and the hostel was quiet. No one seemed to be in sight. She didn't know what to do. She glanced at the Fan Liuying for a moment before taking slow but steady steps towards the man. She could hear him breath slowly and with difficulty.

She mouthed to Fan Liuying, "He is still breathing."

That seemed to calm Fan Liuying as she inched closer curiously. Mo Xin Er watched as she placed her finger under his nose and nodded her head in confirmation. They both heaved a sigh that they didn't know they were holding.

Mo Xin Er glanced back at the phone which had read one hour on call and reached out picking it up from the ground. "Hello."

The person on the other line seemed to jump into a frenzy as he breathed heavily, "Hello. Can you hear me? Who is this?"

"Who are you?"

"Where is the owner of the phone?" He asked, a suspicious tone in his voice.

"Are you his friend? I think he has been shot."

"Fuck. Where are you?" he cursed and she heard a shuffle in the background.

She replied, "Tsing University. The girl's hostel."

"Oh, thank you so much. I'll be right there," the man said and soon she could hear the racing of cars in the background. She presumed he was riding a motorbike.

"Should we call an ambulance?"
