Chereads / Infinity Sealing System / Chapter 15 - Game of Catch

Chapter 15 - Game of Catch

Tomorrow, on Wednesday.

Kirt was on the train, heading for school when he received a notification. A new notification.

[New Weekly Task: Seal a thing (10 exp)]

It was about sealing a thing, not constructing a successful seal. It was different but it wasn't hard at all. He could practically complete it at any moment.

However, seals were clearly visible to other people as he had tried that. He drew a seal on a notebook and showed it to Jade before, which Jade was obviously able to see the seal. Hence, he didn't try to complete the task on the train.

...

On the last lesson of the day, AE class.

AE included physical training. Today, they were supposedly playing a game instead of the usual test.

The game was the hunter and the prey. The rules were as such:

Two people will be chosen as the hunter. And the rest of the class were the prey and would escape from them. If the preys are caught by the hunter and then fall down or touch the ground with their body parts, not including the legs, they would be disqualified.

However, the hunters could also get disqualified by that tactic; just that they had two lives meaning they could fall one time safely without any worry of getting disqualified.

The winner of the two sides was decided upon whether the two hunters can disqualify all of the people within a limited time range. If they can, the hunters win and if they can't, the side of the prey wins.

The hunters could also lose if both of them get disqualified.

Since the rules were like this, obviously the more powerful students would be chosen to become the hunters.

The teacher chose the hunters.

One of them was a student with a power level of 3, the girl Rachel. She had bright blue hair and it was currently tied into a ponytail. Her eyes were bright and full of energy as she was ready to become the hunter.

The other was a tall boy with a power level of 3 and a half, one of the strongest among the class.

He had short blonde hair and a handsome face. A popular boy among girls.

So after the two of them had got into the two opposite ends of the field, the remaining students had already scattered.

Among them, some of them were currently anxious and was forming teams to escape the hunter while the remaining decided to go individually in order to not be purposefully targeted by the hunters.

Kirt was the former. He had already formed a team of four with Jade and two others. They could be said to slightly know each other.

So when the whistle sounded, the two hunters set into motion and so did the team of Kirt.

"Where are we going?" Hamon asked while their team was running in a random direction.

Then came Kun's voice, "Should we go there?" as he pointed at the right side of the field.

There were relatively many students there, with two other teams and the total people about 10+. So it should be okay.

Since the others agreed, all of them decided to head there.

'The hunters would most likely go towards there. But...' thinking this, he turned his head and saw the location of the two hunters.

The male hunter was purely just messing around, going after the girls while the other, Rachel seemed to be chasing after whoever she saw. However, he could faintly see that her destination was the right side of the field, the place their group was heading to.

She wasn't actually catching anyone, just like the other hunter. She had caught only one person until now, and it was likely that it was in order to hide her destination.

But he still played her game and led his team right into the trap. Not long later, Rachel suddenly upped her speed and began dashing towards the right side of the field.

A faint sign of lightning and electro could be seen within her eyes, spreading to the surrounding air.

The students were taken by surprise; but since there was a team between their team and the hunter, the situation wasn't much urgent. Still, they could feel something had changed within Rachel.

Therefore, they didn't want to try their luck and immediately escaped.

Rachel was now currently dashing towards the team between Kirt and her. The team consisted of three members, which, all of them were female.

They were surprised at Rachel coming towards them and had no plans within their mind. They might have prepared for it before but may have become flustered by the situation, making their cooperation terrible. Their attacks were mostly random and not organized at all.

With a wind blade coming towards Rache, she evaded it swiftly and dashed towards the team once again. Just that this time, a shield made up of vines had suddenly appeared in front of one of the members.

The vines intertwined with each other to form a shield.

It seemed as if it had just grown right then as even some fresh flowers and leaves can be seen on the vines.

The member who held the shield raised it up and then looked towards Rachel with a determined gaze. However, that determination soon fell apart and her hands were slightly shaking.

With a perturbed gaze, she could only watch on as Rachel pushed her hands towards the shield made out of vines. Electro wasn't much effective against dendro but, Rachel's hand was just like a sharp weapon as it pierced through the vine shield easily, making the girl lose her calm. Without wasting a moment, Rachel tackled the girl pushed her to the ground swiftly yet softly.

During the time, the girl had no chance to take a break. All of it just happened in a few moments so she wasn't able to prepare for it at all.

Another wind blade had come flying towards Rachel. This time, she had no chance to dodge but it didn't mean that she can't block it. So, she raised her hand and then swung it from the top to the bottom, slashing the blade of wind into half and neutralizing its effects.

While her two other members were struggling against Rachel, the other was just standing there, not knowing what to do.

After all, only a few times did such events like this happen and the students had no experience whatsoever so it was only right for her to react like this.

Therefore, she fell to the ground with just a slight push.

Seeing the scene how Rachel had defeated the three girls so swiftly, Kirt thought to himself with a grim face, 'How much did she improve? This improvement is definitely abnormal; her power might be nearing level 4 now... No, it might even have reached it'

He didn't quite know of the students' exact power level and how much they had improved. After all, the information they acquired was only on September when their class formed. After that, the conversion stage happened and likely many things about the students have changed.

But, he had no way of knowing about it, so it was reasonable that he was shocked by the sudden development of Rachel.

The girl had immediately went from an upper-middle student to the upper side of the students.

As he was thinking about that, he was sure that so did the others. Unconsciously, their team's speed had slowed down, allowing the hunter Rachel to catch up to them.

They didn't think of retaliating against Rachel at all after witnessing that fight. They might have had the thought at the start of the game, but, now they didn't.

So with a tacit understanding, the four members of the group split into four different directions and ran.

...

'Quick response but not enough' Rachel thought as she squinted her eyes. She might be able to catch three of them if she really exerted her power but she didn't intend to.

After all, she didn't want to waste her stamina on them.

So, she only went after one of them which was Hamon. The pitiful Geo user could only watch as he was caught by the hunter behind him.

By the time Hamon got caught, Kirt and others have already distanced themselves from Rachel.

...

As Kirt sat on the bench, he picked up a tiny stone from nearby. It was an insignificant stone, a normal one with an irregular triangle shape you can find all over the streets.

Earlier, he was disqualified by the boy who was the other hunter. He wasn't able to retaliate at all as he was pushed to the ground forcefully. The boy had seemingly tensed up after seeing Rachel's power and decided to not mess around anymore. So, just like a grinding machine, he disqualified a total of 10 people including Kirt.

But, he still lost to Rachel as she disqualified a total of 14 people, 4 more than the other. After all, she had a time advantage as the other hunter was mostly fooling around at the start.

As for the remaining four student, one of them accidentally fell to the ground on their own while the other three preserved and was able to survive until the timer ended.
