In all honesty Prim had no idea where she was supposed to be going. She was just walking throughout the Plane with no actual destination.
She was cold, and scared, and hungry, and she missed her friends most of all.
"I see your alive...Honestly I would have left you in the snow to freeze, but then the game would have ended right then and there. When your last breath escaped your lungs, causing you to die an utter failure" Said Vespertine.
Anger clawed at her, and Prim couldn't force it down.
"Your the one who saved me..? But why?"
"Don't you see? If I let you die, I will have no one to toy with. Last night was one of my newest tricks. Did you like it?" Vespertine laughed.
Flashbacks of dire wolf like creatures replayed in her mind. She shuddered at the very thought of them.
"Your worst then Mazereth" Prim seethed.
"Right, Mazereth...One of my other creations you just so happened to destroy"
"Creations?"
Vespertine nodded.
"Now that your well again" She sighed pulling her long sleeve away from her hands. "My babies are getting hungry"
Prim's body tensed as a low growl rippled through her bones. She slowly turned to meet eyes with the monstrosity that chased her through the valley the night before.
"No" Prim whispered. She snatched the dagger Prim had noticed hanging at Vespertine's side just as the wolf lunged at her, knocking her to the ground.
Prim heard a cry of pain. But it did not come from the wolf.
Suddenly the wolf vanished in a cloud of white smoke.
Panting, Prim peered up at Vespertine. She was griping her side. And blood soaked through her white-blue dress leaving a dark, almost black stain.
"You-" She winced as crimson drops seeped into the snow.
Prim glanced down at the blade in her hand and saw that there was no blood on it whatsoever.
And when she looked back up at Vespertine, she was gone.
Prim stood up and examined the knife in her fist. It was an odd piece of work. It had a silver handle, decorated with four gold roses. And the blade itself was jagged and dull, yet still the sharpest thing she had ever held.
Prim looked around one last time and caught no sign of a wolf near by. But she could never be too sure.
She stuffed the dagger into her coat pocket and closed her eyes again.
Dolion warned her that if she acted on emotion then she would get herself killed. And he was right. So she had to focus now. She had to fight to bring back her friends. Then this nightmare would be over.
Prim inhaled...Cleared her mind...And focused all of her remaining energy on Vespertine.
Slowly, shapes began to form in her mind. Until they formed a clear picture.
Vespertine was in a dark place, a place where the sun couldn't touch her. And she was examining the gash in her side.
Prim opened her eyes again. She still had no idea where she was. Just that she was somewhere the sun didn't shine.
"There is a certain magic in this world. And it resides in the water" The girls voice rang loud in her mind.
What if this magic allowed Vespertine to hide away underneath the surface, where almost no one would think to look for her.
It was smart. But how was Prim going to get to her? If she's so deep that the sun can't reach her, how was she supposed to?
Prim decided that she would have an answer to that question soon enough. But for now, she might actually know where Vespertine might be. And she had to defeat her, in order to bring back her friends, the villagers, everyone on earth...She couldn't back out now.
