Vespertine paced around her chamber, anger boiling over into rage.
"How could she have been rescued by...By a dragon?! I vanished everyone! Everyone!"
She spun around to face her alpha.
"You" She pointed. "Send half of the pack after the dragon. Do what you please with it. Just make sure it's dead when you've finished...Leave the girl to me"
The wolf nodded, then Vespertine sent him away.
She sighed, dragging one hand down the side of her face. "I shouldn't have gotten cocky. I should've left her to freeze. And now she knows about my connection to the dogs. How could I be so stupid"
She winced, pressing a hand to her side. Normally it would have healed by now, but the blade Prim has in her possession is one filled with dark magic. The only magic that could really cause damage to her. The only magic that could kill her.
Prim jolted awake as something cool splashed against her face.
"Hey!" She cried out as she wiped her face against her sleeve. "What was that for?"
"Forgive me" Said the dragon. "But you wouldn't wake up. I was beginning to fear you were dead"
Prim rolled her eyes as she stood. "So what now?" She asked dusting off her filthy clothes.
"Now, we need to find a way to get close to Vespertine without being noticed"
"But, I thought we established that I can get close to her. Through her dogs"
"Your going to fight them? Let alone kill?"
"If I must" Shrugged Prim.
"Alright then" Said the dragon. "Do you still have the dagger?"
Prim nodded and pulled it from her pocket.
"That is a dangerous place to keep that thing! You have a better chance at accidentally killing yourself then you have killing her dire wolves"
"I'll take those odds" Prim said stuffing the knife back into her pocket.
"Ok Prim" Said the dragon suddenly serious. "You need to go into the forest. That's where her dogs will most likely be"
Prim nodded and turned to walk away, But stopped all of the sudden when she was met with a pair of gleaming red eyes.
"Hello, princess" The wolf spoke.
"Ha! You can talk?"
The wolf bared it's yellow teeth, then suddenly broke into a sprint down the hill.
"This should be fun" Prim grinned devilishly as she pulled the dagger from her pocket.
The wolf pushed off it's hind legs, knocking prim to the sand and pinning her wrists with it's large paws.
The dagger slid across the smooth sand and just out of reach.
"The dagger Prim!" Yelled the dragon.
"I'm...Working on it!"
"I should've left you to die" The wolf growled. And then the realization struck.
"Vespertine?"
The wolf pushed itself off of her and lunged for the dagger.
"No!" Prim shouted as the dire wolf collected the dagger. Then in a puff of smoke, Vespertine was standing in the place of the huge beast.
She twirled the blade between her fingers. Relief etched into her perfect features. Then her eyes where cold and sharp once again as she looked at Prim.
"I thought about sparing your life once again you know" She said.
"I suppose I should be thanking you" Prim smiled, Her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Then, without a single warning, Vespertine lunged at Prim gripping the blade with white knuckles.
Prim tried to doge it, but she was one second too late. A yelp of pain escaped her throat as the blade tore her skin.
She gripped her injured arm and examined the damage. But there was only a small scrape, yet it burned like hell.
When Vespertine came at her a second time Prim was quick enough to doge it.
"Stay...Still!" Vespertine demanded as she attempted a third time.
"Now now, that's an unreasonable request" Prim chuckled as she tried to distract herself from the burning in her left arm.
"I'm going to make you regret every returning to the Plane" Vespertine panted.
Prim inhaled, and began to clear her mind. And this time, she didn't have to close her eyes. She watched as time began to slow, eventually coming to a stop altogether...And then the world was tinted blue.
