After a few minutes, he walked out of the forest holding a dead rabbit by its ears. "That was fast."
"Yes, I used my powers of speed." He said as he walked to where she was sitting.
"If you could do that then why didn't you use it to make us travel faster?"
"The curse is weakening me and that is why I need to break it as soon as possible. I was conserving my energy until the last part of our journey where I would use it to take us to the palace faster." He took out two bowls from a small bag that was hung across his chest which she hadn't noticed before.
He kept one bowl on the ground while he placed the rabbit he was holding in the other one. Holding the bowl in both of his hands, he closed his eyes as Quinn watched him. In a few seconds, the rabbit turned into a hot bowl of rabbit soup.
"Wow, that is amazing!" She exclaimed as he split the rabbit soup and poured half into the other bowl on the ground.
"Yes, it comes in handy when there is limited resources for cooking food, and it saves time." He passed her the other bowl and she grabbed it, her fingers grazing his as she collected the bowl.
She lifted her eyes to his and found his eyes on his bowl of soup as he grabbed it. She started eating the soup, it tasted sweeter than any rabbit meal she had ever eaten and it was evident in how she devoured every piece. Vincent glanced at her with an amused smile as he ate his own soup.
"This is so good, what else can you do?"
"There are so many things that I can do, you will know them all as time passes."
"Oh yes, you have to conserve your energy, but can't you tell me?"
"I can, but you won't know what they mean even if I describe them until you see for yourself."
She nodded, "I understand."
After they finished eating, he brought out two water skins and handed her one, she lifted it to her lips and gulped it down. She did not realize how thirsty she was until she started drinking it.
He lifted his own water skin to his lips and drank from it. He removed it from his lips and grabbed their bowls. Tilting the water skin, he washed the bowls and kept them beside him on the ground to let them dry.
She looked around the area they were with the forest right beside them and the sun disappearing in the horizon. As she did so, Vincent looked at the sky and noticed how dark it was getting, he turned to her.
"It is getting darker and harder to see. We should sleep now, it will let us rest better before resuming our journey."
"Yes, I agree." He brought out two small blankets from his bag and handed one to her. She collected it as she looked at the blanket in her hand with a thoughtful expression.
"How comes you prepared for the journey even though you were not sure if the magic of the magic blue stone would be enough for teleporting?"
"I was not sure, but I had to prepare a travel bag at least, and I also told my personal guard to send a carriage for us if I don't come back in two hours. It has been hours since we started this journey, that means a carriage is already on it's way to us."
"How very thoughtful and smart of you." She said truly amazed at his personality. It was not what she expected from a demon King.
He stood up and wrung out his blanket before spreading it out on the grassy ground. She followed his lead and did the same. After laying down, she saw that he was facing her and his eyes stared into hers as she looked at him. Her breath hitched at the intensity of his stare. She noticed how dark and beautiful his eyes were, his silky white hair made it bolder and added to his handsomeness.
His hair was not grey or old looking, it was pure white in color and it was long, past his shoulders. He did not look older than thirty even though he was the demon King and hundreds, if not thousands of years old as she knew from the stories of the demons. They age so much slower than human and even vampires, and that made look younger than they originally were.
His perfect lips curved into a smile at her studying of him, "Good night, my love."
She felt herself smile as she closed her eyes replying, "Good night."
Quinn was deep in sleep when she heard a thump, she jolted awake and sat right up opening her eyes. She saw that Vincent was fighting two assassins that were dressed in all black except for their eyes. The thump she heard was from one of the assassins falling down.
She saw him on the ground, but he quickly stood up and continued fighting Vincent together with the other assassin. The first assassin conjured a blue fire ball from both of his hands and threw it at Vincent, he used his quick speed and dodged moving quickly to appear in front of him.
Vincent threw a kick on his stomach as the other assassin threw a punch towards his head. He dodged bending over backwards and grabbed the assassin's wrist twisting it and kicking the back of his knee. "Abort! Abort mission!" The assassin yelled in pain to the first one in a gruff voice.
The first assassin started conjuring another fire ball, but Vincent saw him and punched his face drawing blood from his nose. He turned to the other assassin and saw that he has ran away and was already going into the forest. When he turned to the first assassin, he saw him ran off into the forest too.
He made a move to follow the first one, but stopped and turned to Quinn. It seemed that he changed his mind because he did not want to leave her alone in the night. "Quinn, are you okay?"
