Chapter 9 - Answers Unveiled

As soon as Vincent was done eating, he dropped his spoon beside his plate and stared at Quinn, watching her eat the last bite of food on her plate. "You are my mate, Quinn. I knew about you because I had visions of you since the start of the century, and when I saw your grandfather on that night he freed me, I knew that he was connected to you." He said as she swallowed her food and picked up the cup of water beside her plate to drink it.

She kept the cup down after drinking the water and dropped her spoon beside the plate as she glanced at him. "But how did you know that? And when you gave it to him, did you know all along that he would not use it, but I would?"

"I could sense it in his blood, and yes, I gave him the magic blue stone because I wanted to find you. I did expect him to use it and when he did, I would come to his home where I would meet you, but I never expected you to call me yourself or to ask for my help."

"So you need your mate's love and her heart to be able to break the curse?" She asked as she glanced at her plate unable to keep staring looking at him as he still watched her.

"Yes, that is all I can say. I need you to fall in love with me."

"That is easier said than done, I just met you, and you could have courted me like any other man as a suitor."

"But I am no man, and would you or your family have allowed you to marry a demon if I did? If I did not make a deal with you, none of you would have allowed me to get close to you."

"But then why did you not take me with you until a year later after you found me?"

"You were at war when you called me, one of your blood was dead on the floor, you and your family were in distress. You were not in a position for me to strike a deal or take you with me." He stood up from the chair and glanced at the setting sun through the window then at the bed before he glanced back at her.

"It is almost dark, do you want to rest before it is time for sleep or do you want me to keep you company?"

She stood up as well glancing at him, "I know a King is very busy, I have my books to keep me company."

"Yes, you are right, but business can wait if you do not want to stay here alone."

"That is very kind of you, Vincent, but I do not want to keep you from your duties. I will be fine with reading my books." She smiled at him reassuringly as she walked to the foot of the bed and picked up her bag of books.

"It is well then, I will attend to some matters and come back soon." She could feel him watching her as she sat on the bed and opened the bag.

She lifted her head to look at him, "Alright, I will see you then."

He turned around and made his way out of the door as she picked up one of her favorite books. Love At First Sight. It was about a woman meeting a man that was not accepted by her family. She falls him as he confessed to her, and they continued their love in secret. They later eloped to another country to live with his parents and love each other openly. Later on, her parents came to find her and accept her lover.

She felt like she was in a slightly similar situation and she wanted to read it to be at peace that everything will turn out well. As she started reading it, she heard a knock on the door. She kept quiet since she knew that Vincent would not knock on his chamber's door.

The knock came again, but she didn't answer. A female voice came through the door. "My King, Queen Ellen has sent me here to serve you the apple pie I baked for you."

From her statement, she could tell that the lady was the one his step mother wanted to marry and his step mother's name was Ellen. She remained quiet as she waited for the lady to leave. She heard shuffling then silence letting her know that she walked away.

After reading four chapters of her book, she heard the door open and Vincent walked in with Cesar. He walked to the wardrobe while Cesar bowed his head at her, "Good evening, your Highness."

"Good evening, Cesar." She replied as he packed up their plates and cups into their tray. Vincent opened his wardrobe, looking inside it as Cesar picked up the tray and walked out, closing the door behind him.

He glanced at her, laying on the bed with her book in her, "How was the day for you? I hope it was not too dull cooped up in here."

"No, it was quite exciting as I enjoy reading." She answered and sat up. He nodded and pulled up his robe, taking it off. He was left in only a long white trousers with his toned chest bare.

She could see his muscular arms and toned perks, but she quickly covered her eyes with her hands. "What are you doing? Why are you undressing in front of me?"

She heard him laugh, "I am going to be your husband by tomorrow, you should not feel shy. I am undressing here because I only need to change from the royal robe into my sleeping shirt."

"You could have warned me at least."

"You can open your eyes now." She heard him murmur and she opened her eyes to see him standing right in front of her studying her, dressesd in a white shirt and the white trousers.

"Why are you standing so close?"
