Chapter 6 - Dark Or Light?

"I am fine, but are you? One of the assassins was using magic." Quin said to Vincent as he came to sit on his blanket opposite her.

"I am alright, and yes, the assasin was using magic, and not just any magic, but dark magic." Vincent laid down on his blanket facing her, and she couldn't look away from his beautiful eyes.

"Does that mean the witches sent them to attack us?"

"No, the witches's assasins do not dress like that. They only need to change faces using magic, but these assasins were sent by the Dark Fae Kingdom. They are the ones that use blue fire ball magic."

"Faeries exist? I thought that was just folklore and I thought that they were meant to be good according to the stories."

"Yes, almost all mythical creatures in folklore exist, but we call them Fae and not Faeries that are fantasized as tiny creatures. Faes look just like we do except with pointed ears. They are divided into two kingdoms, the Dark Fae kingdom and the Light Fae kingdom."

"That is interesting, so you are enemies with the Dark Fae and allies with the Light Fae?" She smiled as she figured out where he was going.

"Yes. Now, we need to sleep before the sun rises up and we continue our journey." He said closing his eyes, making her miss their beauty.

"Alright, good night, Vincent." She muttered as she also closed her eyes.

"Good night, my Queen." She did not expect him to say that, but his statement made her realize how she was going rule a kingdom alongside him. She has always thought that she was going to a prince and be his princess, but never a Queen.

Sleep washed over her and the moment she opened her eyes again, she was staring at the early morning sun in the sky. She sat up and saw that Vincent was sitting crossed legged on his blanket with his hands on his knees and his eyes closed. It looked like he was meditating.

As she rubbed both of her hands over face, she heard Vincent's deep voice, "Did you sleep well?"

She removed her hands from her face and glanced at him. He had opened his eyes and was getting up from the ground. "Not very well, the ground is very hard. What about you, as a King,it must have been awful?"

She stood up too, picking up the blanket in the process and started folding it. He watched her as a smile came to his lips. "It was not awful, I am a demon King, not a human King. I have gone through things that normal Kings have not gone through."

"Right. How can I forget?" She asked with a small smile as he also picked up his blanket and folded it. She passed him the blanket, "Here."

He collected the blanket and joined it with his own in one hand then opened his bag that was on his shoulder and placed them in. He closed the bag and faced her as she put on her shoes.

"Let us continue our journey then." He said to her as she straighten up after she finished putting on her shoes and picked up her bag of books from beside her strapping it around her shoulders.

"Alright. Lead the way." He started walking forward and she felt into step beside him.

After walking for around half an hour, she saw a carriage driving towards them in the distance. "There is the carriage."

Vincent said as the carriage drove closer to them, she turned to face him. "It looks different than the carriages I normally see. Everything in the demon kingdom must be different than in our kingdom."

"Not everything, but you are going to see a lot of things that will be foreign to you." He replied to her just as the carriage stopped in front of them.

The man that was steering the horses quickly climbed down and bowed his down at the waist for Vincent. "Your majesty."

"How are you, Oscar?" Vincent asked gesturing for him to lift his head up. Oscar lifted up his head just as the door of the carriage opened and a tall man with dark hair came out. He was wearing a sword on his waist and dressed in a dark blue robe.

The bowed down at the waist at Vincent, "Your Majesty, I apologize for the delay."

"Raise up, Cesar." Vincent said making Cesar raise up. "This is Princess Quinn, she is going to be your Queen."

Cesar and Oscar both bowed down at the waist for her as they turned to face her, "Your Highness, we are glad to do as you wish."

"Thank you, but I am not Queen yet." Quinn said as her lips lifted into a smile.

Vincent turned to her, "You will be by tomorrow." He turned to the two men, "Rise."

They rose up and Oscar climbed back up to his seat at the front taking the reins of the horses again. Cesar walked to the carriage door and held it open for them to get in.

He walked to the carriage door and she followed, he held out his hand for her to take and she lifted up her skirts with one hand and took his hand with the the other to help her climb into the carriage. She sat on the seat as he also climbed in and sat on the seat opposite her.

Cesar closed the door and as she looked out through the window, she saw him walk to the front to sit with Oscar. They started moving as Oscar led the horses. She turned her attention to Vincent as she faces him and found him studying her. "Since there are fae, how come humans never knew of them?"

"They hide in their kingdoms and hardly interact with the human world because they dislike humans." He answered her as he looked out of the window.

"Both dark and light Fae?"

"Yes." He turned his face away from the window and faced her again, his dark eyes looking through her. She felt like she could see right into her soul.
