Now Samson went down to Timnah and saw a Philistine woman there.
He returned and told his father and mother
"I saw a Philistine woman in Timnah. Get her because I want to marry her. "
But his father and his mother said to him, "Why should you take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? Are there no women in your family or in our blood? "
But Samson said to his father, "She is the one I want to marry."
But his father and his mother knew not that the LORD had commanded Samson to do this thing, because the LORD had made a breach upon the Philistines. At this time the Philistines ruled over Israel.
Then Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother. As they passed through the vineyard, he heard a young lion roaring at him.
But the Spirit of the Lord came upon Samson, and he tore the lion in pieces like a young goat. But he did not tell his father and mother. And he went and talked with the woman, and she pleased Samson well.
After some days Samson returned to marry her. He turned off the road to look at the lion he had killed and he was surprised to see bees and honey on the lion's carcass.
He took honey and ate it as he went. He went to his father and mother and gave them to them. They ate but Samson did not tell them that he had taken the honey from the lion's carcass.
His father went to the woman's house, and Samson made a feast there. This is the habit of young men.
When the Philistines saw him, they brought thirty young men to go with him.
Samson said to them,
"I will kill you. I will bet you 30 linen pieces and 30 fine clothes, which you cannot predict before the seven -day banquet is over. "
Then they said, "Tell us your riddle."
Samson said, "From the prey comes food; out of the strong came forth sweetness. "
Three days passed and they still could not guess the meaning of the riddle.
On the fourth day they said to Samson's wife, "Trick your husband, and tell us the meaning of the riddle.
Otherwise, we will burn down your father's house and join you in burning it down.
Did you invite us over? "
